I know this is an older video, but I have a 1979 Mercury Zephyr and I've always thought of doing the 6.8 swap. Was it just a modular K member to get it installed? What did you need to do to get a manual hooked up to it?
I used a modular swap k member. You will have to go manual brakes or hydroboost brake booster for it to fit. I used a t45 tranny and is pretty simple if you keep it all cable driven
@@Nodarperformance ok, so I guess I'm wondering how different it is from a 4.6/5.4 swap. I've been collecting stuff to do a mod swap for a while now but wasn't sure what all was different with a V10 regarding fitment and wiring
I cut open the harnessm reused the factory connectors and used new wire from diyautotune. It has labels printed on the wires and then just ran the wires where they needed to go on the ECU and relay board. It was pretty simple. Seemed easier and have more potential for power then the factory ecu
I need to pick your brain on a few things, are in any of the Facebook groups?? Have you found any limitations of the split pin crank design? Not sure what RPM your spinning it to e.t.c
Not really in any groups. I dont know if there is a per say limit to the split pin crank. Many high performance v10 use a split pin crank without issue. Most cases of crank braking is from forced induction and using a shitty hand held tuner. I wonder how many fail due to bad tuning and not it being weak. I was going to 5200rpm and that was mainly because the cams not making anymore power past 4700rpm.
What’s the RPM limit? Also while the width and height are identical to the 5.4 V8 (not including intakes) the 6.8 is around 4” longer than the 5.4 having the extra length between the motor mounts and bellhousing meaning the transmission would be moved backwards around the same 4”. Just curious on how you handle this problem. Almost went this route but ended up with a Coyote instead
It's interesting no almost went coyote swap before this engine. Rpm limit is kinda unknown but max power in stock form is at around 4200 rpm. So it's got lot of room to improve. For fitting the engine I got a grinder and a welder
i want to know can be possible make this swap on sn95 mustang and fox body using t5 borgwarner transmision i want it to have std box you need to modify something else? Thanks
I don't see any point on using a limp t5 when any modular 5speed bolts on and leagues better. Just get any Modular standard transmission. Like t45 and bolt it on like it was a mustang
Best bet on a budget is an MT-82 with an MGW shifter relocation kit. Make sure to upgrade to brass shift fork guides. MT-82 is infamous for sloppy shifting so they are stupid cheap, only takes a couple of upgrades to fix and their gear sets are freckin beefy. I'm running one in my manual swapped Lincoln Navigator. When I had the 7.5 my 351W T5 in 1st gear would idle at like 12 mph... when I put the 8.8 in it was actually drivable and hella fast. She was ugly as sin, but there wasn't a car out there I was afraid of. 0-100 Nobody took that car, which was great for screwing around on the street.
It had the 8.8 with 308 gears. With the tko tranny and the 86 final drive
Is this the 3 valve or 2 valve version? How much power is she making? I have so many questions 🤯
It is 2v pi. There is a video on our channel of it on the dyno. It made 340ish horse power and 440 torques. I have forgotten the exact numbers.
It’s like Mad Max but with an Acura radio
That tickling sound is the gasoline system correct?
At this time it was running of batch fuel injection. So it was firing all the injectors at once. So yes the loud ticking or clacking is from the fuel system
@@asteffenson88 its pretty much a 5.4l just longer.
@@Nodarperformance thanks for the info. I think I'll go that route. I appreciate it
Working man’s super car
How did you do your stand alone ecu/ecm? Ihave one from a F53 chassis & have the computer but need a pinout to the harness.
That thing is fucking awesome man
It certainly was th-cam.com/video/hgP7DMav4XI/w-d-xo.html
I thought the extra length was infront of the motor mounts
How hard was it to squeeze this into a small chassis? I really want to do something like this to a 58 volvo pv444
It was a pain to get it in. This chassis does have fairly narrow shock towers. Really put a hamper any form of an decent header.
Video start at 3:01
More like 4:00
Oh im pry to juddie I know ery thing sounds different on "tape" it is a sweet ride
i want to know can be possible make this swap on sn95 mustang and fox body using t5 borgwarner transmision
i want it to have std box
you need to modify something else?
This much torque would turn a T5 into an actual grenade.
did you sell/give the shell to someone who could do something with it?
No, this was the cars last dance. I doubt anyone else would have got it back in the road after many butchered repairs previous owners had done.
