    Doom 64 Dreamcast is now fully released and feature complete! If you dont know, this is a native Dreamcast port of Doom 64 by ‪@jnmartin84‬ using reverse engineered code and the KallistiOS development kit. It runs at twice the resolution, at 60 FPS, has normal mapped textures, and has dynamic lights. Thus it is a huge graphical upgrade over the original Doom 64. It supports two bonus episodes as well: the Lost Levels by ‪@svKaiser‬ and Doom 1's Knee Deep in the Dead conversion by Z0k. Another cool feature is that the Dreamcast controller analog triggers allow for analog strafing in Doom 64, so it now has complete analog movement. This opens up a future where you can burn Doom 64 mods onto CDs and give it to your friends for their Dreamcasts!

    One of the most impressive releases to ever grace our little white box and help us to understand and harness its mysterious powers...

    I never liked Doom or FPS at all. But wow this looks fantastic. Such a great job making this game look and run so good 😁👍 Even if it is not a game for me this is just great for the Dreamcast scene.

      Indeed, thanks to JNMartin there is a lot better understanding of normal maps on Dreamcast now. Perhaps other Dreamcast homebrew can take advantage of it now! :D

    Guess we're running doom 64 on everything rather than the original doom.
    Jokes aside, this is an impressive port. I do like how it's faithful to the original d64 while also adding some graphical improvements (for example, the shotgunner having a darker appearance than the zombieman). The lost levels and knee-deep in the dead were nice additions to the port.
    I do have one question: can you change the music in the knee-deep in the dead episode? As much as I love hulshult's work, I feel like PSX Doom's music/ambience would be a better choice. But that's just from my perspective.
    That aside, I'd give my respect to martin for putting his efforts into creating a great port. Hope his work gets more recognition from the community.

      Right now there isn't a menu option to change the music. But that shouldn't be too hard to implement! Well at least to do the Doom 64 style music instead of metal. To get the PSX tracks, I could swap out the metal tracks with those versions when I compile the game. That isnt really difficult either, just a matter of converting to the right format :) .

      @jnmartin84 is there potential to add to this further with added multiplayer/coop for the maps that don't use room over room tricks? I would have used CD Audio versions of Doom PS1 music with those original convert maps. Doom 64 is more of a sequel to Doom PS1 than Doom PC. The rock tracks don't really fit atmospheric theme.

      Haha you caught that! Ya that is a timing bug related to it running at 60 fps (rather than 30 fps). It has been fixed now though!

    I need to test this on actual hardware. Looking at the video, the turning speed looks really bad, not smooth at all. It's not that hard to aim on vanilla Doom 64 for the N64.

    Is the filtering disabled by default?

    • @Immorpher
      @Immorpher  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No! Filtering is on by default, but me being me, I always disable it and let the intro play as I start recording and get comfortable haha.
