Hasbro now sucks. There are too many reasons why they lost the Jurassic license, would have been great to see a kenner line by Hasbro. They are basically pulling the same card for Star wars like they did with JP. The only toys I buy from them are Marvel Legends & some of the kenner stuff.

I remember this old Bespin playset I had when I was a kid. Had the freezing chamber (with top and a staircase), a tower to simulate Luke getting sucked out the window, and the catwalk where Vader cut Luke's hand. You could put metal figures all over the place. That set is infinitely better and that was a set released in the freaking 80s.

Also, let's say this once again: Playmobil toys are amazingly sturdy and durable and they're made in Germany, with apparently higher production costs than in countries like China.
So, either Playmobil sells playsets like the Ghostbusters firehouse at a loss, or Hasbro is lying through the nose when they say 3.75 inch scale playsets are not economically viable.
I begin to wonder what it would be like if Playmobil acquires the Star Wars licence... one can only dream, I guess!

Let's be real, when companies say something is not economically viable, it doesn't necessarily mean that it would literally be impossible to produce something cheaper, it's that that's the price point that passes whatever internal math they use to consider it worth their while to move forward with a project. They're basically saying "if you want us to make this, here's our quote".

Each comes with a piece of the diorama. Bandai has done this a few times. The Big Order Room that came with a series of GaoGaiGar robot figures is a phenomenal display and photo setting. It wakes the perfect Avengers meeting room. Bandai even did it with Bespin! Parts to build the hallway and window from the Luke/Vader duel came packaged with Luke and Vader.

Lego did the exact same cloud city carbon freezing chamber playset but with 4 minifigures (2 of them exclusive) and only costing 25 dollars at release, half of the half of hasbro’s (it also had a play feature to freeze Han Solo and the same exact stairs, but a bit smaller, so basically the exact same “play features”, but mostly better). And if you don’t want just the freezing chamber, Lego also released a COMPLETE CLOUD CITY playset in 2018, that includes slave 1, the twin pod car, almost every scene (including the freezing chamber), and 21 figures (7 exclusive). Of course, it cost 350 dollars at release, but it’s totally worth it considering the incredible amount of stuff that is including.

Well said, Michael. Thank you! I stopped collecting Hasbro Star Wars in 2015. I'd been devoted to amassing a huge collection of toys. I played with them, I made it nearly a full-time occupation creating photostories and building elaborate sets. I imported hundreds of items from the USA. Star Wars just fired up something inside me - an overpowering creative urge. I suffer numerous illnesses but scraped by, investing every penny I could into the toys. Credit cards were used. But around 2015, things changed -not by my hand. The amazing toys began to be replaced by crappy shells and Playskool-paint-jobs. The figures became very basic yet no less expensive. The Hasbro Star Wars line fractured all over the place. The 3 3/4 inch standard got a 5-inch cousin, and the collector fanbase split over it, uncertain where the focus was for the future. I noticed the super-articulated line suffering from very poor plastic and facial paint jobs, yet - the prices kept rising. It broke me as a collector and play-mate. I gave away my entire collection to a collector nearby because I decided to move house and jettison Star Wars. I'm so glad I did because the line is now junk, terribly-overpriced and full of re-issues. If I hadn't dumped in 2015, the Sail Barge would have been the next shatter-point. Yes there are collectors with big wallets, but most do not, and the way Hasbro now prices junk like the Jabba's Palace and Carbon Freeze-Chamber 'playsets' - static chunks of plastic are no more playsets than a plank of wood.

The sad thing is, I remember just recently watching the G.I. Joe episode of The Toys that Made Us, and the Star Wars episode. The guys at Kenner weren’t perfect, but you could tell how invested they were in Star Wars, they were so invested that they tried, desperately to keep the torch burning through the 80s, long after kids had moved on to other things. The guys at Hasbro who were instrumental in the creation of G.I. Joe cared about what they were making, they were passionate about a toy line filled with American heroes that would outsell Star Wars by being competitive and better constructed. It seems like the youngest son who inherited his father’s company doesn’t now what he’s doing, he never even saw the appeal of G.I. Joe as a kid, and bought Star Wars just to get a guaranteed money maker, when he already had the G.I. Joe juggernaut, and turned it into a red headed stepchild the second he could. The man is, in the words of Saruman, a lesser son of greater sires.

One of the things I appreciate is that unlike other reviewers you are not pandering to get in good with these companies and for free stuff. Just for reference for how bad the new play- set is, in 2009 they came out with a carbon freezing play-set for the Power Of The Jedi line. I had it and played with it as a kid. It had a working elevator so you could lower Han into the chamber, a missile launching canon, a jail cell, and consoles that can be removed and show circuitry. It even had a block of carbonite that you could put almost any 3.75 figure in. Like if you wanted to you could freeze cobra commander in carbonite if you wanted. Was it screen accurate? Hell no. Was it fun? Hell yeah! Kid me loved that play-set. The fact that that in 2009 is a better play-set then any play-set Hasbro can come up with 11 years later is beyond sad.
