    Fantastic! I love your videos. Very informative for us novice wrenchers. What I'd really like to see is an ignition timing/setting up the points video. I believe this would be helpful to so many of us airhead owners. Keep up the awesome work. You're a huge asset to the BMW community.

    Many thank yous, for all the work you have done, to create these videos they are a great help. I have a 74 model r90 / 6. And I am gradually beginning to work on it. It's been sitting for many years, and I'm going to get it running as it sits, and then put it into another frame. But I want to do a thorough tune-up, and a new top-end, and rebuild the starter to make sure it will always start. The bike I got was wrecked, and it needs a new frame. Which I have acquired from an R 60, and have been assured that the engine will fit in the frame. But I want to get it running first, and even put the new top-end on it so I know it is healthy after I swap frames. I will be looking at all of your videos as I move forward. And probably also contacting you, to order some parts thanks again for everything.

    I am in awe of the quality of the videos. They are excellent. These are clear and understandable. It is obvious that you know what you are doing. You have great presentation and instructional skills. I feel like I am right in shop with you. Who is doing the camera work and what kind of camera are you using. I have been watching each one of the series several times over as I will be working on mine soon. Thanks

    Really enjoy the awesome videos you have put together. I have a 1969 R60/2 and after sitting for 21 years I got running doing what you did for the cylinders. Thanks for the visuals , this has all helped.
    BTW, would you ever say what the cost of parts was for each stage so folks could get an idea of breaking up the large projects we own? Thanks

    • @boxer2valve
      @boxer2valve  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right on! And .... Yes that's a good idea. Usually on our mailers we break down the parts and prices used for each part of the series. Jump on our mailing list at Boxer2valve.com and we'll also they to but a $ figure on work. Thanks again .

    Thanks for the video again… super useful to see, but was wondering when installing the alternator with the 3 bolts, does it sit flush with the stator? Like it bottoms out… or there’s a gap?

  • @charleshealy341

    Wouldn't it be much easier, to Simply install the new master link through the short end of the new chain, install it around the two sprockets, and then put the long end of the chain over the other end of the master link? That way, the open end of the master link is facing the outside where it's a simple matter to put the plate and then two circlips on the master link, to the front. Where it is so much easier to see. I respect you infinitely for all the experience you have working on these motorcycles, but it seems so much simpler to do it in a different way.

    • @boxer2valve
      @boxer2valve  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might be able do it that way but there's not much space to get the master link in from the rear of the chain, so that's why I do it that way.

    • @boxer2valve

      Hi Frank. The tool was purchased from Snap-On. It's Blue Point item number GA199A. One end is for slot screws and the other for Phillips. Very handy!

    Got a question about 'lock tight' I know you showed it when connecting the drive shaft but I haven't seen you use it anyplace else. Am I using too much of that stuff (I don't have stock or anything in it,) but I do use it often on bolts and screws, is there a guideline or standard?
    These videos are great, got a R60/6 that is in great shape, but it is comforting to know this resource is available and you do a super job at them, thank you.

    • @boxer2valve
      @boxer2valve  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I only use locktite or similar on critical applications, where a fastener is not easy to inspect and where a loose screw would cause failure. The driveshaft bolts are one of those and the oil pump cover is another one of those but other than that, proper torque and replacing the wave washers is all you need in my opinion. Thanks for your kind comments.

    What is the product you use for sealing the timing cover gaskets, looks like a very fluid silicone based liquid gasket? I use Loctite blue silicone, is much thicker and stickier, sometimes too thick.

    Hi guys. Great videos. :-D. I see that you install all seal rings while you've got the cover on the bench. I am doing the same work on my R75/7 and my Clymer manual say that the cam shaft seal needs to be installed after the cover is mounted on the engine, otherwise it will be leaking. Any thoughts about that? Thanks :-)

    Thank you much for the videos. My /5 has a bushing that needs to be removed before pushing out the tachometer drive. Yours doesn't show the bushing at all; is it necessary? The manual says to use a hook and pull it out. It's not obvious to me how to do that. Any tips?

    • @RDHGarage
      @RDHGarage 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I watched the previous video and your bushing came out with the cable; mine did not and it's really tight. Still would like a tip to remove it if you have one.

    • @RDHGarage
      @RDHGarage 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never mind, I got it out. I used your method of prying out the drive, and the bushing came out. I applied liquid wrench and heat beforehand to help. Thanks!

    I replaced my 95 R80 GS Basic's chasis wiring harness with a brand new original one which I've bought from Bmw.But the Gen lamp goes brighter when the RPM increases :/ Couldn't find why!Any sort of bad grounding or voltage regulator failure or diode board failure?Does any one had this kind of a failure before?

  • @ragazzi25
    @ragazzi25 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    what voltmeter settings do you use when checking continuity on rotor and diode board??

    • @dmsheckler
      @dmsheckler 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He's just describing a standard continuity test. If in any doubt, Alligator clip your two leads together and start turning the dial on your multimeter until you hear it beep. Then you'll have the correct setting to perform basic continuity test. Hope this helps.

      Change all the oils and engine oil filter, Check all oil levels, Check the fuel tank for rust or water, Clean the tank and fill with fresh gasoline, Check the fuel lines for cracking and replace if needed, pull the lower bowl off the carbs and check for corrosion and moisture and repair as needed (they may need a rebuild after that amount of time), Replace the battery, Check your tires and most likely replace them, check your cables for proper function, Check your throttle for smooth operation, replace your spark plugs, check your points for rust or wear, start your engine and make sure everything runs smooth and take it for a slow ride first to make sure everything feels ok and enjoy your ride. Be safe :)
