Usually I don't comment the videos I watch on youtube, but I really need open an exception, because the gentleman who share with all are a great teacher on the art of BMW mechanic. Very educational, clear and easy to follow, myself I'm a BMW R series biker, and I thank u very much the high quality of the info.
Moving the shop to the east coast! Wow, you've got your hands full. In light of that however, it would be a shame not to finish this fabulous series so your followers can witness this slash 6 come to a happy end. I think it's safe to say that the thousands of us that watch are waiting with anticipation to see the next instalment/s. After all, you now have boxer 2 valve celebrity status. Your fans need you! 😀👍
This whole series of videos really is awesome, some of the best I’ve seen anywhere. Thanks for all the patience, attention to detail and high production quality!
Thanks you so much for doing these. Your patience and ability to explain why and how all these steps need to be done is unmatched. The suggestions for alternative to tools that that may be unavailable or steps to save time are helpful and appreciated. I’ve learned so much. Thank you again. Christian
Have enjoyed the 19 videos so far & looking forward to more & project completion. I ride & wrench a 2012 r1200gs, very interesting to see how the boxers have evolved over time. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much to make so incredibly simple to work on these airheads, mine is laying for 2 years because of a clutch problem and I finally had the guts to take it a part thanks to you! Would be nice to see a video on the brake system and final tuning of this bike. Are you going to finish this R90/6 series? Thanks again
Yes, in hindsight we should have done that. Thanks for the input. The bulbs are all in a plastic holder. You pull out that holder, and then remove the bulb from the holder and then insert the replacement, then reinstall the holder with new bulb installed.
Hi @Boxer2valve. I recently bought a BMW R60/6. And since there is a little light missing in the dashboard. I started watching some videos on youtube. And I came across your videos. They are really good 👍Nice that there are some who care to explain how things should be done. so I can also understand how it is done. so I can also understand how it is done. And another cable for the instrument lighting, where can it be bought? p.s. I am from Denmark. Have a nice day.
William I have enjoyed all the videos you have produced. Outstanding job really. We are anxiously awaiting the next one which was going to cover tune up an carburetor adjustments. Any idea when that video will be released? John
Great video I hope you make a brake caliper and pad replacement video. I been trying to change my front brake for my r75/6 for a while now I just don’t know where to start.
Where do you get the instruments repaired? My speedo swings all over the place. Also good to know visors are replaceable, mine have been split like you showed for nearly 10 years.
William, referencing the replacement harness plug that connects to the back of the instrument cluster: Do all the leads terminate to the 'board' inside the headlight nacelle? Do they get soldered or what is the termination method? Thank you so much for producing these informative videos. Amedee Aucoin, Halifax
Hi. You have a couple of options and it depends on which model you have. The plug is the same for all years. Early models have the connection board inside the headlight and as I recall, most if not all wires connect to the board with a standard 6mm flat connector. So you can crimp on female connectors and plug them in to the board. Otherwise, where that is not the case, soldering is best. A short piece of shrink tubing on the wire for insulation. We will be covering some wiring ideas on one of the upcoming videos.
Hey Charlie, Sorry for the late reply. The screw is a "wood " screw type and not a machine type. It's still available from BMW or you might have something like that in your tool box.
boxer2valve BMW Restoration and Parts Supplier I have just taken delivery of a replacement screw set for the instrument cluster from Motor Works - looking forward to the loom plug not falling out at every bump in the road!
do you know of a company that manufactures an (analog display - i.e. "needle") electronic tach AND electronic speedo (that uses hall sending unit, installed at the factory location - transmission)... that can fit in the original BMW instrument housing? (no luck, so far, with Acewell or Motogadget) trying to keep a relatively classic appearance; large, round face... no interest in wheel-mounted speed sensors.... with the classic Airhead market, hard to believe nothing is offered...🤔
Installation of the KatDash LED unit can really help with this. The misting can be caused by moisture in the housing and then the heat emitted from the standard bulbs can cause the misting. The LED lights create no heat compared to the original incandescent bulbs. So, you may consider complete disassembly, clean the instrument housing thoroughly and dry it out in the Sun or perhaps with a hair dryer. In any case replace all of the seals. That may do it. Optionally install the Kat Dash LED unit.

would have been a good moment to show how to replace a bulb... Good video ;)

Enjoyed the videos but a bit frustrated the next one ain’t here yet. Any idea when we might be seeing it ?
Good job and video, thx. 👍

I been trying to change my front brake for my r75/6 for a while now I just don’t know where to start.
Are you planing to make any more videos in this excellent series?
Yes, we have since uploaded some more.
Any more upcoming videos on the /6 boxer restoration?
Cat Dash , Kat Dash, where do I find these LED lights for my instrument cluster ?
Great video again! The 74 year had white bands at the circumference of each instrument. Any truck to reproduce them?
Hi. Unfortunately, as far as I know, there are presently no plans to reproduce any of the instruments from 74 onward. That could of course change.
Where do you get the instruments repaired? My speedo swings all over the place. Also good to know visors are replaceable, mine have been split like you showed for nearly 10 years.
We highly recommend Palo Alto Speedometer. The best!

Hi, can you tell me the screw type / size for the screw that retains the multi-pin electrical connector?

Yes. Check out our new videos. We have uploaded some new ones over the past month.
