How do you still not know how yoshis and shells work? Green = nothing, blue = flying, red = fire, yellow = stomp. This applies to yoshis and shells, and when a yoshi eats a shell, the properties are combined - for example, the one you were surprised to find out about was a red shell eaten by a blue yoshi, so fire + flying. This means that blue yoshis will always fly when they eat a shell, red yoshis will always spit hot fire, yellow yoshis will always stop with a shell in their mouth. Also, disco shells are all colors - you get wings, fire, and stomp.

But do you not know that red Yoshi always spits fire, blue Yoshi always gets wings, and yellow Yoshi always gets ground pound... AND blue shells grant wings, red shells project fire, and yellow shell cause ground pound
It’s easy to forget how glitchy this engine is. The super mario world devs were really good at working around glitches, but not at actually fixing said glitches, though it may not have been possible given the hardware limitations
Watching Ryu play through this hack and I'm confused. Maybe I'm misremembering, but can't you control the height of your jumps depending on how long you hold the jump button? Seeing Ryu struggle every time there's a jump with a low ceiling makes me think that I'm wrong because it seems like too obvious a thing to just overlook.
