Matty, for me it’s a new stadium. It’s all about capacity and future events that can be hosted at the new ground. One fact that is rarely mentioned but I believe is a factor that the owners will want to include in the decision process. They want to have multiple events to be able to be hosted including UCL Final. This is where the capacity is crucial as the UCL have specific capacity requirements for hosting the final. This is where the 70k comes into effect. Not only this it will also put the club as one of the largest stadia in the country which will almost guarantee further events looking to use the ground which is all extra income for the club and improving our PSR or what ever mechanism that is in place. It will also be a huge draw for naming rights and sponsorship and will be huge redevelopment opportunity for the local community and surrounding area. If you couple this with the recently announced new training complex and a potential regeneration and expansion of Newcastle airport (with PIF now owing a share in the airport) you can see the direction which would could be seeing not only the club moving with PIF & the Ruben’s along side our local councils. We could be seeing the start of major investment not just into NUFC but also the region and local economy.
8k seats don't do much lets be honest we need a new stadium if were ever gonna be able to make more money to be able to spend more to keep up with other teams now but as long as were kept near the pitch that's the main thing for me to help create the best atmosphere
@@will_saorenwhat are these none football events? The likes of the nfl will only go to London and we get plenty concerts. It’s only really June when any of these can take place
Needs to be 85k+. I reckon 10-15% will be made available for tourism and corporate. Another 5% for away fans. Which would then mean around 70k actual Toon fans. This would not satisfy demand, which is actually a good thing in a business sense, but would still provide a significant number of new season ticket holders and younger fans.
Given the state of the nation ‘growth wise’ at the moment, the owners promising to put in a billion into the local community and spend some money on the city the Gov would green light anything even if it was approving a new build. It’s never going to be a better time to use the leverage they have (cash). New stadium at Leazes park, protected land ‘signed over’ on gov compulsory purchase order or lease agreement, St James park returned to a park.
Unless we are going to replace these players in this window then we are stupid for letting them go now, we are fighting for a champions league place and an injury to Murphy might be the difference between a European place or not.....we stand to lose a lot more than the £8 million we got for Miggy
3 years ownership and were still guessing about a solution to our capacity problem.... My thoughts are that it's dragging on because we're in an incredibly difficult position as a club. Dont own our stadium. Adjacent to listed buildings. Leazes Park has the room, but it's kind of protected too and under stewarshipl that may not agree with giving a lump of it up for a stadium and parking. Our fanbase has been canvassed in the past regards improving or moving. Improving was the answer initially now that has been superseded as time has drawn on. It's a new stadium for me Matty. Started going to St James's in the early 60s standing in the Leazes, Gallowgate and E wing Paddock my memories of the old ground are more about the football and players I watched than the toilets that made it better to use a pop bottle than plodge your way to urinals. So as long as the new build is where everybody is saying lets give our kids and grandkids what they deserve.
We as a club cannot complain about the cartel having an advantage over us with the money they bring in then not go for the bigger capacity with a new build it puts the capacity up by nearly 18.000 that over a third eco capacity over SJP and hopefully a massive naming deal to go with our new massive stadium
Matty even 70k seats won’t be enough! It has to be 80k to be worthwhile. Even Arsenal are looking to expand again - let’s just get the job done 80k seats and be done with it! It's a new stadium for me. I love St. James' Park, but the long-term future of the club is at stake here. I think we have to take the opportunity to move now or be forever limited by the confines of the current site. It's not just the next couple of decades we should be concerned about. This choice will affect the club for a generation or beyond.
It’s a no brainer for me you want as many fans in the matches and you don’t want any disruption to the football season so we have to build a brand new stadium with 70 thousand capacity and call it the new stJames’s park simples
