I must admit that this was the most fun I had reviewing a watch this year. I've been waiting to encounter one of these for four years, and it was exactly as cool as I hoped. As the owner of an original caliber 214 tuning fork Accutron, I feel like Citizen captured the spirit of the original with this modern quartz execution. Best, Tim
Love this video and have been waiting for your take on the accutron. Granted it's not for everyone but is a very cool, unique and fun timepiece, thanks Tim!
@@the1916companywatchreviewsi had been holding off on getting one moreso because I hadn't seen any reviewers who could explain it well to the point that I felt comfortable forking over the money. @@the1916companywatchreviews Tim, I made it a little late to the last Monday night livestream of 2024 a little late last night! You should absolutely pick it up for yourself! I feel as though it is right up your alley. You certainly deserve it after all of the hard work you put in at The 1916 Company! Keep us updated on your decision! Take care, Gus G.
I don't understand what you guys are doing with this. The links above are to a non-Govberg/1916 Company site (that has nothing specific related to this watch) and to the general 1916 site (which also has nothing on this watch). I Googled Accutron Spaceview 2020 and saw that various sellers are offering it for prices of $3,650 and above. For a watch that may be prone to stop working in 5 years and need to be sent to an authorized center for servicing.
I absolutely love watches, the high end watch brands are out of my budget but the MAMACOO has literally an almost duplicate of every single watch on the market . Always a great but no matter your budget.
Tim, respectfully, no one can throw a gigantic watch on their medium size wrist and convincingly say, it’s big but it’s not too big! And actually pull it off… 😂😂 You have some sort of magic ability with this.
I really like the dial or the look of the dial but the size and thickness just put me off. These brands go to all this effort to introduce some new technology but they give no effort to making it wearable, either in diameter or thickness and in a lot of cases it just seems like laziness to me, simply checking the "we did it" box and moving on. PS quite the educational review, I really appreciate it. Its an interesting watch.
Own one. Great watch, and great explainer Tim. It’s a Hypnotic design. Kudos to Citizen for a whole new movement. Wears light and comfy on my tiny 6 inch /15cm wrist. Not Ti but comfy like Ti. Hit me up Tim for any specific long term owner questions. I wear once every several days to keep it happy. Tamagotchi style 😉
These always seemed gimmicky to me. If you think about it it’s essentially a 2 handed quartz watch, and all that piezoelectric stuff exists solely to drive the seconds hand so that it has that spring drive-esque smooth sweep. Interesting watch, but not for me. I’m a mechanical purist what can I say…
I have one of these.....with the DNA case. Great watch, fantastic design. The problem was the strap.....it was terrible. I lived with it, barely, for a while until I found a guy who makes strap adapters for G-Shocks. I threw the idea of him making an adapter set for the DNA, and he took up the challenge. I made a video of the result on my TH-cam channel that can be found with a quick search. Now anyone with a DNA can get rid of that horrible strap and use conventional straps. I'd leave a link to his web site here, but I don't think its allowed. But it can be found via my video on my TH-cam channel.
I'm surprised you found the strap lacking. My impression was that it felt pretty soft and supple. Or was it exclusively a strap shortcoming on your particular case shape? Best, Tim

Could you review the tuning fork one as well?
I love this.

Outstanding description, Tim - really enjoyable, even by your usual standards.
I would love to own the red variant one day! Such a cool piece!
I love this watch to the point that I'm thinking of buying it for myself as a holiday gift.

Tim

Such a cool looking piece, but why so insanely thick...
Because it’s made of LEGO.
Fascinating! Thank you for this comprehensive resource! Quick question, is this functionally equivalent to Seiko's Kinetic movement?
Love to see a Tim review as a Bulova fan

Excellent. Nice to read an insigtful comment.
More for the rest of us who don't want a regular boring mechanical watch

@@the1916companywatchreviews he is referring to the Accutron Spaceview DNA, a different model that has an integrated strap.
