  • Here we have a pretty English village which is not all that it seems. What was a huge underground stone quarry was converted in ww2 into an ammunition bunker. Bits of it may still be in use though...

@ 1:20 the buildings seen in the corner of the picture were once the boiler house and air conditioning plant for the vast underground munitions store some 50+ feet underground.Originally it was a stone mine, the stone being used to build the city of Bath.I believe it was 1933 that the MOD put in a compulsory purchase order for the mine and began converting the miles of galleries into munitions storage. There are three above ground depots on the plateau with incline tunnels down into the store.

Iv'e worked down in the tunnels installing fire alarm systems for a company that now uses them. Believe me even though the tunnels are erie and go on and on there is nothing sinister going on down below. The air vents have to be because as with all mines gases can and do build up hence having to carry a rebreather mask with me whist working below.

The air vents were for the air conditioning system to reduce the humidity down to a reasonable amount to ensure the explosives stored there didn't deteriorate too fast. And the only gas underground there is a small quantity of Radon in the old workings.

there is indeed a mile long tunnel from the railway to the ww2 ammo store , which i explored about 1990 , it was quite simply massive! , the largest underground ammo store in the world i believe , went there recently and all entrances appear to be sealed off now sadly, so god only knows what`s down there now .

really shame, that mile tunnel is sealed, we want to discover a districts, but we were not able to get in, only to the quarry which is sometimes very dangerous...

I know a place where there are loads of tunnels that lead all the way down to the centre of bath. But its really eerie and no one who has been down there in the last 10 years have come back :/ but that could be old mines tooooo

burlington bunker. built in the 40s as an emergency operations bunker in case everyone went bat shit crazy and nuked everyone else. so the huge ass air strip nearby would have been to import military and government officials

What a lot of fairy tale nonsense. An old but very large ammo depot, once a major source of Bath stone, now a secure store. No need for all the mystery stuff.
