As a former Viola player, it really warms my heart to see how often you use them. It's such an underutilized instrument and it can feel a little disheartening to be a Viola player and feeling a little forgotten. It's certainly an odd instrument but it has such a great sound when composers utilize it to its full extent. Thank you so much for these videos, Austin!
One of my best friends growing up was the viola in my school orchestra, for whom I wrote many solos! It was very educational and made me learn to NEVER ignore the so-called "inner" voices. I also studied counterpoint under Morten Lauridsen who repeatedly would say (of his choral music but also a general maxim for students) "never forget the altos!"
@@awintory That's so great to hear! I was never the best Violist, mostly due to ADHD making it difficult to focus on practicing, but the instrument will always be important to me. Thank you so much for your reply!
Nascence, Apotheosis and I Was Born For This are the most popular songs from the Journey soundtrack, and for good reason. However, my personal favourite has always been Atonement, form the first time I've heard it. This is an even better version of it, so I must thank you, Austin!
Atonement has always been my favorite piece from the OST. I remember listening to this version for the first time in the car on the way home. I was brought to tears by the sheer beauty and emotion the reorchestrated version brought out in the whole piece. Really excellent work. 💙
This piece has always stuck with me and is my favourite from Journey. It brings so much life and swell to what could be a pretty overlooked part of the game. I’ve wondered for years if some of the progressions have an Asian influence? It makes it stand out to the other pieces through the game in beautiful way. I hope to see you live sometime, you’re my favourite modern composer. All the best from a little scottish cellist!
Such a lush and beautiful piece, and I love how so many instruments get a chance to shine in different moments. Your orchestration is top-tier, Austin!
You know you'll be renowned among future generations of composers for your generosity in uploading these, right?
Haha I just hope they're helpful or interesting!!

To me, it almost sounds as if all the solo instruments voice their own prayer before joining in the powerful collective prayer. It's really beautiful!
“Prayer” is the exact word to describe this
atonement is one of my absolute favorites from the soundtrack, it is incredibly gorgeous
Watched the whole thing and I can't even read. Gorgeous piece, one of my top favorites ❤️
I guess you read it with your heart, like I do...
Haven't even played the game but this piece is absolutely beautiful. You can just feel the emotions he was trying to achieve with this piece.
Do give it a try. It's astounding beyond belief.
Wow, I wish I'd been a composer in another life, your music always moves me to tears 😭 ❤️
