Love how the new roots add dimensions to San Quintin and how the light falls off around them. It's great to see the fish going in and round these roots as soon as you put them in, very cool. I'm the type that is always changing my tanks decor I look at them and go... now I really don't like this or that and change it up. Oh boy oh boy Black Nasty's, one cichlid I have always wanted so this will be awesome to see yours grow into huge beauties. Thanks again for showing us all your hard work.

Hi David, love the look of San Quentin tank . The decor is the perfect amount ,just a no for me on the moss, once the fish grow out it going to look even more natural and beautiful and your are slowly converting me to have ago at an American cichlid tank . Well done
David, I am so glad you got into CA and SA cichlids they are so cool huh. I just recently got a bigger tank myself. I upgraded to a 5 ft tank and about 120 gallons. I got it because I finally got a black with a few red spots Oscar. He is small right now and growing out in my 55 gal. But he is going to go in that big tank. With some of my other cichlids. I wish I could get a 7 or 8 ft tank but maybe later in the future. I can’t believe you are going to keep black nastys. Your daring man. lol. Appreciate the video and can’t wait for the upcoming projects
Honestly you have convinced me, I need to give a South American tank another try, the additions of both the new fish and tree roots makes it very unique and interesting. Really I’m jaw dropped right now and that is not good news for my wife considering it could mean…Another tank 😂. Great video and thanks for sharing the great work! @@CichlidCharmermore than? Jeeze telling me I’ve been wasting time and energy on my ever growing population of Africans? Lol well at least I have some company with my miserable choices… lol jk. No I get it and I won’t say what they say about South Americans even though they do have a big mouth in comparison. Truthfully I would have already started but the water quality where I am in perfect for Africans because of high water hardness coming from the st.Lawrence river. That and I mentioned my wife previously in my last message, it starts with a small push and she loses all enthusiasm and I pick it up and 10 tanks later I get called… a hoarder. Now I should tell you I sell fish on the side to locals in my area so having the tanks mostly means having stocks but to appease the goddess I would have to remove at least one of my African tanks, and they are all happily full. So I have a plan for a 500 gallon, but I need hands and I know I cant count on the guy on the corner to help and technically it needs to be built so there’s the garage I need to build too 😂, oh well what’s a plan without having a goal to work towards! @@HapiPETSWM How funny. You have more tanks than I do lol. You have a very understanding wife as well. That's pretty hilarious -- you need to build your 500 gallon tank, but you need to build a garage to build it in first. Sounds just like how I think
@@CichlidCharmerhonestly it’s a book and truth be told I have 5 other tanks with everything from substrate to filters just sitting because of a shutdown and they might sit for a while but they will likely start back up if I can get any new species interesting enough to start a breeder. Or else it’s true, I’m busy but it really doesn’t slow me down because of pumps and hoses that do the heavy lifting while I do the leg work. Until about 5 months ago I was doing bucket changes on 14 tanks once a week and somehow it’s when I stopped I hurt myself briefly lol! I also maintain 17 other tanks in my area so I promised myself that I would think of the other as my part time tanks. Phone is gong off again, gotta go 😅

I have never had a black nasty cichlid. I wonder how they would compare with 5 star general cichlids (Hemichromis elongatus) or a Heterotilapia buttikoferi cichlid? I had a buttikoferi that was huge and I gave it to a guy that had 2 Red Devils and eventually it killed both of them.

Great question! Most of the rocks are aquadecor. Some like my sanctuaries are real.
