Commenting on how interesting and funny it is that for some reason, the voice recognition seems to do better with a cartoonish accent is not the same as being upset about anything. Although the point you bring up is even funnier since this is the English localized version. You do know that most Japanese people don't retain English fluency at all, right?

I like how Joel was worried the game wouldn't understand him because of his accent. This game barely functions with an American accent. On more than one occasion I've seen someone start using a stereotypical Japanese accent and the game starts working way more constantly.

This feels like Michigan Report From Hell and Hey You, Pikachu had a morbid hybrid child.
It would be a much cooler game if it was a direct crossover. "Pikachu, use Thunderbolt on number 1" "Pikachu, dodge left!"

He doesn't have a strong Swedish accent, he's very Americanized in his accent, to the point he sounds like a native. Obviously he has some cadences here and there.
The game seems to have a tendency to make people identify Rio as an actual person, and get overwhelmingly frustrated at her in the process.
"The game's gonna be like "I don't understand your accent"." BOLD of Joel to assume this game understands American accents.

Lifeline is interesting in that it functions at all. Voice control in 2003, it's kind of amazing that it works period, even if it's far from perfect.

Worst part is this seems like it would've been a halfway decent game if it just had normal controls, like sort of a knockoff version of the 1st Parasite Eve but in space.

I hear that. Even if the mechanics look hair-pullingly frustrating, I always did like the look of it by virtue of me really liking the look and atmosphere of PS2-era horror games.
You mean it would be absolutely forgettable? The only reason anyone remembers this game is the voice command gimmick.
@@IAmCaligvlaTo be completely fair that is generally because of how unplayably awful that makes it. It is hard to give much else in the game a fair shake when the method of control just flat out doesnt work the grand majority of the time meaning most of the game's content doesnt even get experienced.

Ngl, this kind of game has bigger chance to work properly and success nowadays with more developed audio recognition system.
To be fair, it had the tech available back then too, as long as it would've had a way to actually train the voice recognition (like the one in Windows Vista) instead of relying on the pretrained one that's clearly trained on someone with a Japanese accent.
Good free-form voice recognition is only recently possible to pull off well, but voice recognition limited to a small corpus of possibilities have always been significantly easier.

A game like this having any intense moment just makes smol-brain players such as Jobel start screaming at the game so it doesn't understand anything, so I don't know if making a more horror-like version would work much better but it does sound fun.
@@TotalXPvideos Nah. The minimalist walk and hide horror game is an oversaturated genre. Do it for certain sections maybe, but not the entire game.
People want to be able to fight the terrors again, not just run from them.
