    Love mine, picked it up a few months ago. Have the same spec and display as yours. Only two negatives I have are 1) the lid can open in a bag which can expose the display and 2) if you leave this on a sofa or carpet when you're at home, it will overheat and blue screen or crash.
    But it's a beautiful machine to spend all day on.
    Nice review.

    I'm so glad that you mentioned the lack of variety in the ports. This is the thing that's stopped me from going through with the purchase. Every review I've read or watched never mentioned the lack of usb and the need to use dongles as a serious drawback and it was driving me nuts thinking I was the only one that found this to be a problem

    Great review as ever! I wonder how this would perform with an egpu, allowing a higher watt allocation to the CPU? Not a gaming laptop, but could be a heavy hitter for people who have one laptop for both work and play, if the power allocation allows the CPU to stretch it's legs though.

    Would you also recommend getting a universal dock for additional input options? Any degradation in performance when using a dock?

    Great review! Would appreciate your help!
    Thanks 🙏

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi James, in answer to your questions: the OLED looks gorgeous and probably a little better image quality and blacks than the uhd but the uhd gets brighter. The OLED also has PWM flickering at a really low frequency. This gives lots of users headaches including myself so I cannot use OLEDs at all 😢 if you are fine with oled phones you should also be fine with the laptops though. Secondly yes, a dock is a great idea. Personally I have a monitor with a usbc connector that provides image, power and USB’s and it works great, I just plug in one cable and I am up and running. Lastly no, dell won’t swap the battery but you can buy a second larger battery, dell are very expensive but you can pick them up cheaper on eBay 👍

    @BranimirParashkevov 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    David, a superb review - thanks! Quick ask - atm I can easily access the UHD+ version with parameters I like but cannot find the FHD+ version which I believe suits me better. If I neglect the glossy vs mate conflict for the screen (important when outside) and trust that you got 8h of battery on regular usage (which is the norm for my XPS 9560 now), the only question left is about apps scaling.
    I know that with previous 4k versions of this screen it has been a consistent issue with some apps appearing badly due to unexpected resizing etc. Can you comment what is your experience with this on the 9510?
    Thanks!

      hi there, gaming was pretty good considering this is not a gaming machine! the panel is obviously only 60hz and I am used to high refresh panels so felt a little slow but I found it was great for strategy, rpg and story driven games. Nice video btw.

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK, will try and put this as simply as I can. With high density ram they manage to pack twice as much DRAM in each chip meaning that a memory stick will then have half as many chips on the stick. Now as each DRAM chip has its own controller that effectively means you cut the number of controllers in half meaning when you read/write from ram the controllers have more work to do and take longer as a result. Hope this makes sense. With regards to knowing what you have that is more difficult. If you are using a AMD ryzen system you can use ZEN timings but on an intel system I haven't found a way so I have to open the laptop and look at the ram stick. They have the density written on them. x8 is low density and x16 is high density

    Prosumers, I would wait for the upcoming MB Pro 16 before spending this sort of money. Even if you are a Windows person I would wait for the soon to come Intel 12th Gen. I could not recommend this in the current chipset cycle. Of course if Kaby Lake does not live up to the hype you can get one of these by then with a heavy discount. My recommendation is hold on to see the Macs and in early 2022 the new Intels. Also, we will see next year OLED (low power) and 90Hz displays with 2.5K displays becoming mainstream, an even bigger reason to avoid this for many consumers.

      I just bought the 14” M1 Pro. It’s great, but what I’m finding is there are Intel based software that I use that haven’t been optimized. To the point where the lag is so bad, I had better performance on my i5. So yes, by and large the M1 pro is fantastic, but it’s extremely frustrating when developers won’t optimize for Mac and you basically have 3/4 of your work blazing fast and 1/4 that you want to bash your head into a wall because it’s so slow…. Something potential MacBook buyers need to be aware of before purchasing….

    Hi, as you know I have been after x17 but now so many laptops like this are so good. I want a work laptop but be capable of for a horizon 5 on full settings too. M1x MacBook Pro/xps/x17 w/3070 Gpu what do you think? Is a MacBook Pro m1x ,which I would put windows on using parallels worth putting in mix?

    • @themis6905
      @themis6905 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The XPS 17 and M1 MBP are not gaming laptops. Sure, they have the components to support gaming, but for the same price, you will get fantastic gaming laptops that will serve your needs. The MacBook is not the best for gaming, so I would suggest something a windows machine, like the legion series from lenovo and Alienware series from dell. Even the Victus from HP. You will get lower battery life, but you will be getting a faster screen, an RGB keyboard and all shabang that usually makes up a gaming laptop.

      @@arslan479 honestly, I would really suggest you take a hard look at the legion 7 as well, because if you’re gonna use it in the office, the AW screams gamer, as where with the legion when you turn off the RGB it looks 90% business.

    Asus vivobook pro16x, ideapad 5 pro(and similar alternatives) really make you question what you're getting with the XPS by paying so much more. Asus has good thermals too, XPS isn't terrible but not impressive for the price imo, 15w cpu + 45w gpu? especially since it isn't ryzen intel really doesn't perform very well at all at such a low wattage

      I would take the 17 every time, the 15 has no where near the same level of performance and I prefer the 17” screen real estate. The oled does look beautiful though

    Dear David, thank you for your brilliant review of this Dell XPS 9510 laptop, as always! Unfortunately, it’s a pity that a laptop of this price cannot compete with MacBook Pro 16 in terms of trackpad, audio quality, overall build quality. There are so many quality control issues regarding this device! Also, I would consider this a purchase if Dell could replace a 720p webcam with 1080p camera and use aluminum unibody, just like MacBooks and Surface Laptop Studio do.

      Hi Alex, well fingers crossed Apple will update the MacBook 16” today and I will get it in and compare them. You are right about the quality issues, if you are lucky and get a good one they are great but it’s hit and miss. I also like the fact you can upgrade the ram and ssd, something I sorely miss with apple products

    What the hell is wrong with Dell's quality control? Why do a very large number of their high-end laptops suffer from various issues? If I paid that much money for a laptop, I'd want something that works flawlessly.
