Brewing Thoughts: Do certain mechanics really need to be changed? - Identity V

  • The recent QnA session for Identity V has released and, for the most part, it didn't really pique my interest. There were a few things that made me raise an eyebrow, such as the Aeroplanist nerf, but nothing concrete. That was until I looked at the giant block of text that want certain mechanics to be made easier. And while I do understand this was made with good intentions, I feel like this would be a terrible thing to add to the game. Why? Well, tune in and find out.

    the only thing i want netease to change is to let pc play the goddamn tutorials, why would they even make tutorials mobile exclusive... it's gonna be a pc share 2.0 that took 3 whole years to be added

    I’ve been playing this game since 2020, and this game needs an entire overhaul to in order be fair, or if wants to be “beginner friendly”. They need to increase the time it takes to complete ciphers; they’re completed way too fast, especially with accelerated decoding.
    Most of the survivors need a huge nerf to their abilities or at least a meaningful debuff added to their kit. Additionally, the meta hunters (and some of the other hunters) all need nerfs to their abilities, especially Opera Singer.
    This game is requiring less and less skill to play, and it’s becoming very apparent. Every match, regardless of what survivors or hunters you go against (there are a few exceptions), fundamentally plays the same way ; there is little to no room for strategic differences.
    Especially with things like Flywheel; we already had broken windows, so what was the point of adding another kiting persona? Characters like FO and Merc, and recently Cheerleader, who were already difficult to chase, are basically unchaseable. It is also significantly easier to use than broken windows, because at least with broken windows, you need a pallet or window to activate it.
    This game is no longer fun. Characters who break the mold, like Percy, are actively hated by the community. Identity V no longer feels like a competitive game, with each side having equal skill in order to win; all it feels like is a series of steps you have follow in order to get a tie.
    We also additionally have “cheat” characters, that essentially allow you a free win (Opera Singer and Cheerleader). Netease no longer makes mechanically interesting characters, like the Mind’s Eye or Explorer, characters that actively force you to play differently than a normal survivor would. They’re not very practical, but they’re super fun to play, and that’s what video games are about.

    Making the wiggling cipher more visible is gonna be huge for phone users though. PC and tablet players can see the wiggle at a glance, not to mention making out what the survivors/hunter is from across the map as if it was nothing :P

      I think seeing wiggling Ciphers and characters across the map on Mobile is just fine as it is. Granted, I guess that is just an experience thing and it's not something newer players will grasp, but I feel like the fun with this stuff is adapting to it and getting better and seeing stuff like this. I'm always of the notion that if it ain't broke, don't fix it and I think that's my thoughts on wiggling ciphers. I also have been on Mobile for most of my playtime, so it might also be that

      i have always had difficulty with seeing the cipher wiggling and the speed it wiggles tbch. seeing the other survivors/hunter across the map is easier for me but that could be because they move differently. although i don't have a major eye impairment, i think improving the cipher wiggling will help those with difficulty seeing in general

      @snarkychan7504 I'd be all for just making Ciphers easier to be seen from all distance for people who have a hard time seeing them as opposed to just making a cipher blink when someone's decoding it or make it change color the more progress it has. Whether it be making the Ciphers a bit bigger if father away or allow you to change the base color of ciphers

    I don't understand this, both survivors and hunters learn about the mechanics while they play this game.
    If they complain about the survivors being stronger then they've already found their reason, most of the survivors now are pretty much easy and strong to some extend. Because the devs removed "being punished for making mistakes".

    On this i can agree, simplifying game mechanics is different to giving qol to a game, and sadly people seems more lazy nowadays, hell people still don't know how my hook works ( i think o mention this in another video of yours), its like if they put a number coundtdown to confined space or a sound alert, i mean its there, but you could also read it, spending some minutes in training is something that when i went on with the years i started to enjoy more than playing normally, experimenting, testing and finding new stuff (i know a hook slam from over a window in the winter map and i am not telling you go learn it), all in all ne needs to give more tools for training and incites people to look at stuff.
    Also good work on using hang castle music thats a bop.

    About the cipher wiggling.. I thought they meant like, changing the colour of the cipher. That's how I envisioned it, personally.
    The blue we have right now could be for ciphers not decoded yet, and it could become a brighter shade of yellow or red, as the cipher is being decoded.
    I could never focus on the cipher wiggling, as a player of 3 years now, and I still can't to this day.
    So I feel like that one part of the message could work out, with the whole "making ciphers being decoded more obvious", as some people have weak vision and can't really see the small shaking while in a match. Those people probably including me as well.

      I think for situations like that, there should be an option to either might the highlight of Cipher Machines bigger or allow players to change the color of highlighted cipher machines

    Crazy ask but if you can, can you please put a tts on your videos? I love the topics and your takes on things but i find it hard to pay attention when its just text and would love to listen to what you have to say while im doing something else

      I have been considering adding my own voice into these for a while. The problem is that I still have a very bad stutter and I can't convey my thoughts well with words vs text. I will try and use a tts for one video to test it out.

      To me, the fact that question was even asked by someone leads me to believe there are people out there who complain about this. Besides, I know half the player base probably hasn't gone back to the tutorial since it was updated

    I dont usually make a comment but i also kinda want to share my thoughts so here we go (if you see any grammar mistakes, no you didn't.)
    Out of all the suggestions that wall of text has given, cipher wiggle and chair indication seems decent enough to not dumb down the game if it were to be implemented
    Making cipher wiggles juust a tiny bit better would help a lot of players im sure, due to how difficult it is to see atm. Not to mention players with impaired vision. I saw a reply from you about a settings to change the color of cipher highlight which i think is a great idea to start with
    For the chair indication, i think simply making a slight difference of surv who can take another chair and surv who cant will already be great. Sure on a normal match theres only 4 of them but its mostly about the What If scenario. Not to mention that duo hunter exist as well which this feature will help tremendously on
    Of course that "tell hunter surv used kjr and talent" were so stupid, there's no need of a word for it. Its something that youre expected to adapt on by yourself as you played the game so the feature were practically useless and will only be one more asset in the game to be loaded in.

      I think making Ciphers a bit easier to see is honestly a better suggestion for helping more impaired players rather than all the suggestion of a blinking system or color system to show decoding progress. I think the chairing system we have now is fine because the game gives us all the basic info we need and we need to be the ones to do the remembering. That being said, I'm sure they can make a subtle way of doing what you said

      @@jestergio9961 oh no i didn't mean color changing cipher progress, i mean as in being able to change the color of cipher highlights like what you can do with hunter's light (blue to other color)
      Color changing cipher would be a bit funny hahah

    Totally unrelated topic but
    Jester what do you think of the matching time for surv rank side? I mean it is way better than years ago where for me at least, going a full team could make the queue time go past 30 mins if unlucky, but yea what do you think of it nowdays?

      It's definitely a lot better than it was in the past. I'll take waiting a minute or 2 for a match over waiting 40 minutes for 1 match. Plus, the worst I've gotten is like 10 minutes for a match, so I'm not complaining about it
