I know this is off topic, but a Marines niece was paralyzed a year ago & her hobby is picking on me. How many pull-ups can you do? (please for the love of God come up with a number I can beat) If you do more than me, she will tell everyone an old fart Navy Vet (me) got beat by a girl (you). Also could you post a video for her of both the pull-ups, and how you tie your fire boots? (I don't know why she wants to see the tie off) ps good hunting
I have a serious question how do you balance your guard schedule and wildland firefighting schedule. I’m getting started in 2 weeks and I’m kinda nervous
I am active duty so I can only get onto a volunteer crew, which allows me to decide if I can go out on a fire or not. Is your guard schedule the 1 weekend a month, 2 weeks a year? If so, you should be fine, I would DEFINITELY talk to your leadership (both military and fire) and let them know what you are doing. That way they may be more flexible with your schedule if needed. If possible, I'd try getting an IMA slot. That way you can work all summer without having to do military duties at all and then work all winter doing your military commitment without having to worry about getting called to a fire. Which branch are you in?
1:51 "Self eliminating". Story of many of our lives right?? Glad you were able to realize this, im also 35, "old" by army standards... were finding choices have in reality decreased BUT not entirely eliminated yet! Thanks for sharing
It was really good! I am glad I did it and got the experience. I think it really helped me to go in with the right mindset as well. I went in right after my fire season and I was in great shape. PT was a lot easier for me than for some of my peers.

so ive been wanting to do fire bc i think itll prepare me for the army, how has it been having fire experience going into the airforce?

Plus I was coming from altitude (Idaho) down to sea level (Texas) so I think that helped a lot too.
