RPG Mario being a silent protagonist who mimic the situation by shape-shifting into other characters ala _Courage The Cowardly Dog_ will NEVER be unfunny.
I've been assuming we will get a proper follow-up to TTYD, i.e. another Paper Mario with traditional gameplay and combat. But despite how popular the Paper Mario aesthetic and franchise has been, I haven't even considered the possibility that they could make a new turn-based Mario RPG in an entirely new/unique direction. Considering both the Mario RPG and TTYD remakes, one of these scenarios seems incredibly likely. They are clearly putting Mario RPGs at the forefront of conversation. Almost makes me wonder if they have one planned as a launch title for the next Switch, or at least a major early release that they hope might help sell the console.
There are differences that may be small, yet change the feel of the game/reveal its not the main Nintendo team: 1. Mario's run is off, compare the run speed and animation of the old game and this new one. 2. The text is no longer written on a scroll parchment.. its a generic beige box and the text is oddly small in Switch's portable mode as opposed to Docked for your TV. 3. The maps are smaller... Look at gameplay footage where you hunt the bandit and compare for yourselves. The list grows and the original may be better, except for the music and graphics, if you don't prefer the old rustic style.
the interesting part about being knocked out in this remake is when the first 3 members die the chars that aren't mario will be switched out to the other members who are still alive while in the original it was a game over(this was a good thing for the original.) you can also switch out a dead party member to someone still alive and switch an alive member to the dead one(to try to revive them), which surprisingly destroys the main story's difficulty pretty greatly alongside all the other qols like switching mid-battle. you legit actually don't get a game-over til every char dies and not the first 3. I'm very curious about a low-level run of this remake cuz you can't even game-over til every single char dies. the ability to actually block single target magic in this remake is deff from mario rpg armageddon romhack, thats a great addition and gives some more motivation to do some low-level runs quite a lot. in fact you're only likely to get a game-over in post-game where this and the switching mid-battle+on first 3 chars deaths is very fine-tuned for. it makes complete sense why it works like that based on the booster 9999 damage in the trailers. they really should've had a hard mode and or beefed up every enemies stats more significantly in the main story to account for triple move+mid-battle switching/switch in on first 3 chars deaths, which's deff a pretty glaring problem. the post-game bosses really prove they could've had a hard mode without a doubt and makes me curious how they could've done it. but despite those things being quite literally the only real issues with the game, super mario rpg remake will deff be a fun time
They simplified things so much, which blows my mind because it was already a very easy game for anyone who's ever touched any kind of RPG before. What's crazy is they added an even EASIER mode for new players, but no harder difficulty for everyone else who isn't looking to sleep walk through a cake walk. So your options are A) Easy mode or B) Extremely Easy mode. Nothing else.
This IS a REMAKE, in every sense of the term! It's completely new visuals with 3D MODELS as oppose to 2D SPRITES, Completely reimagined cutscenes and soundtrack, changes to the battle gameplay with NEW MECHANICS and NEW ACTION COMMANDS, and made in UNITY. A REMASTER is a prettied-up port with maybe some very minor QOL improvements. Look at the Halo: Master Cheif Collection. It feels the same, plays the same, and you can switch the visuals between the new and the original. This is faithful to be sure, but calling it more of a remaster is freaking DELUSIONAL.
I just find it funny that everyone is calling this a remaster and not a remake, and then describing the very definition of a remake as their reason why they call it a remaster. lol
A remaster is an improvement in the visuals of a game without interfering with it's other aspects, a remake is a redo of a video games graphics while retaining it's original key characters and story elements, a reboot is a new game with a fresh storyline, including some elements of the original game.
I’ve got it waiting on my switch for the release date, as I played the original in ‘96 when it came out. I’m old so it’s nice to see old games get love.
Make no mistake, this is not a remastered. A remastered is when original graphics get an upscale to HD quality, a remake is when the game graphics are completely redone from the ground up and get a few quality of life improvements without changing much how the original game version was therefore it's a remake
This is how remasters should be. Huge upgrade in the graphics but maintain the core of the game without changing much. A remake is changing the core story and gameplay mechanics like RE4R or FFVII Remake
It's definitely a remaster than a remake since the story of SMRPG barely changed at all asides from the HD graphical enhancement and dialogue change. So, I don't think it's considered a misinformation, but it's more like you just made that up. It's not that deep, bro.
Only 2 days left so hyped One thing for sure is I’m looking forward with a rematch against Culex. Let’s see if they’re gonna make him tougher than the SNES BRING IT ON
All I ask is for a "hard" difficulty setting. The original was easy when I was 11-12 years old and I already had experience with FFVI and Chrono Trigger back then, so now that I'm older playing the remake with an even easier difficulty will take a bit out of the experience. Like Pokemon Let's Go, which was also easier then the original and left my adult self without any sort of real challenge. Difficulty is probably the only complaint I have against the original, oh and one secret chest where you have to get on toad's head in the Mushroom Castle, because it's missable. You only have ONE TRY per playthrough and it's not particularly easy, so I always needed to reload a savepoint several times. Out of those 2 things I hoped at least the difficulty would be better balanced and it turns out it's actually the opposite, so I hope they add a hard difficulty setting or a proper New Game + where every enemy is harder to beat.
BG3 is very different. In that game, not only is combat turn based, but there’s way more variable factors to consider, like positioning your character in the environment, high ground etc. there’s also WAY more character build diversity. BG3 is much more complex compared to this
Of course, Nintendo will drop the Legend of the 7 Stars subtitle. Since the box art is the same as in Japan I think the most likely want name be the same as well since Japan never had a subtitle
I just wish they added harder difficulty modes. The original was already easy, but at least had some parts that could be a bit of a challenge. But Nintendo went and made this remaster even easier, then went and added an actual easy mode in case children want to coast through it with no effort. But if you're already make the normal mode easier, why can't you add a hard mode too? I'm sure even that would be simple, but at least it wouldn't feel so unrewarding while 1 shotting every battle.
People need to know the difference between a remake and a remaster, Super Mario RPG is a remake and not a remaster. A remake and a remaster are not the same thing. A remake is where everything is built from the ground up including the coding of the game, where as a remaster is just an HD upscaled version of an old game.
I know every inch of this game and I can't wait to play a remastered version. I rented it over and over from Hollywood Video and it's one of my all-time favorite video games. I already think I'm going to wish there was a hard mode, though lol.
I remember I could get to 75 but in the original there was no counter, the jump can be done on any enemy its just the timing gets harder the more jumps you do.
Perhaps Nintendo will update it with a "retro" mode that plays more like the original, without triple moves or things like that. For those who want more of a challenge. Alternatively, you could add difficulty yourself by simply not using the triple moves.
Here's a little help. A remaster is like taking an old car and replacing engine in it and giving it a fresh coat of paint. A remake is taking the blueprint and building a new car from scratch. So which one is this? It really isn't that complicated. This is another reminder why you guys are by far the worst gaming outlet.

its crazy to me how everyone loves this game so much, but if any other developer released the same game without Mario, it would be panned and would flop. Nintendo will never go bankrupt as long as they still have Mario and Pokemon games releasing annually
Literally half of the game is pre-established Mario elements. It could not survive on its own because the new elements were MADE to compliment Mario's world. It's a Mario game through and through, not a random RPG with Mario slapped on the box.
