imo adding a wave pool event is great. You get replicable wave, so you can see what each surfers can do on almost exact same wave. Of course, a huge part of surfing is picking the wave, and that's displayed in other event at natural venues.
10 for Medina's ride, best ride I've ever seen, for the variety of maneuvers and length and quality of the ride and wave. Although he does have a fair amount of hand jive flail. Curren in his prime didn't,.. Curren was better on the lack of hand jive.
He is a complete surfer, can do it all with no flaws. In any conditions, size, side and so on,does it better than any other on tour and keep getting better.Besides being a complete athlete, also is a freak of nature his talent is abnormal. Not like most, after an event is over he seldom goes to train or surf breaks that are part of the tour.Places like Chopes J bay Hawaii he only goes when is on,after he comes right back home.First time in life he surfed Cloudbreak, was the Fili pro and he was second, same at Chopes.still when you see, seems like he surfed these places his entire life.Him and JJ are on different world,if asked who is better,,,will answer honestly . I don't know, now Medina is more fit and has a stronger mindset,JJ has a more relax and laid back mind, both are good state of minds.
@@wilsargisson3626 A matter of equipment characteristics affecting surfing style. I've been in surfing since 1982 and riding HPSB's since the late 1990's. Yes I keep young and vital.
@@bonsummers2657 Shit, for all I know you could be a world-class authority on all things relating to surfboard shaping. But from a layman's perspective that comment was laced with remarkable hubris. It sounds like you are privy to information that is somehow denied to Toledo and his shaper.
@@wilsargisson3626 No, it's just honest feedback based on my few decades of observing surfing with an eye for style, and having honest opinions of style of the surf ride in relation with the apparent (readily observable while a rider is riding) relative surfboard dimensions. Do you have experienced opinions on some matters? That's what I'm doing here. That you would think it 'hubris', shows your lack of experience. The first pro-surfing I recall seeing live in person was Tom Curren vs. Joey Buran in 1983. JB's style was slashy hideousness compared to TC's flowing radical weaving pumping top to bottom to vert surfing perfection extravaganza, in perfect overhead lefts in OB, San Diego, in 1983. I was age 15,… now I'm 51.
If he weighted 15 or 20 pounds more than he does today, imo would make some sense. With a thicker and wider board he would lose speed and his air game the kick. The way i see he has to surf, train more his backside.
That ride seemed so routine for him.I'll do this ,then that, this a few times.Okay now is air time.Yawnzzzz.. Coast to shore.Okie dokie. More mature calm and confident now.
translation to English from Portuguese. Yeah I knew I would win, I will be 3 times world champion for sure, here at ranch none is better than me, and with my style of surf all other guys look like little boys, they should make a league only for me and JJ so in case you guys win can compete with us. I am thinking to surf with only one feet at the board just to show that is easy for me…. Aloha……..
I love this event at KS wave pool, congrats Medina, sick wave 🌊
Epic style and surfing. First wave is best ride I've ever seen.
Dude is simply too good. Wouldn't be surprised if he retires with 6 or 7 world titles

Toledo's board should be slightly shorter, slightly wider, and slightly thicker.
What are you basing that opinion on?
