Fantastic videos on this! I snagged a MisterPi from the first batch as a surprise gift for my brother who is also into retro gaming, but wouldn’t have been willing to pay for a de-10 nano build. Completely reassured me that he’ll be able to get a great Mister experience! :)
Damn it so good. Honestly I had a bit of trepidation as Taki appeared to be just a TH-camr who did reviews o n emulation handhelds. He is so much more. Great job to Taki 😃👍💯
I see a lot of people speculating about moving to a new and more powerful platform for various reasons, but with this recent clone development it seems that the Mister is just starting to become much more popular than ever. Personally I'm glad that the Taki clone works as well as it does and I'm now having very high expectations for the portable Taki products.
I just wanted to let you know I managed to get a Mega Kit in Batch 2 because a) I wanted to thank you for your testing, giving me the confidence to buy one & b) because I knew you would be happy for me
Emmm, but pretty often with your side-by-side comparisons, when you said everything is locked and synced noticed (by simply pausing video), that everything is not synced. Like MisterPi drew more text characters, moved/scrolled objects are in different places on screen and so on. And that diference look like slightly larger than 1 frame.
I am very curious to see how 2 identical DE-10 Nanos from different manufacturing runs compare to each other. They probably have the same slight variations.
For the guessing games, while I originally had actual guesses where some were original DE-10 and some were MiSTer Pi, I have a hunch that all of them were actually MiSTer Pi because you wanted to demonstrate that it's just that high quality.
Any information on a JAMMA adapter for the MiSTer Pi? We need it for our Arcade cabinets and apparently none of the currently available JAMMA adapters are compatible.
Could you test out Sega Saturn on the MiSTer Pi? Very, very interested in how it's going to perform. It might be time for me to replace my ArcadeVGA setup!
Hi VGE, as far as i can see, there is no RTC module included into the Mister-Pi actual stack. Can someone confirm if that stack is still compatible with the Mister standard RTC module add-on ? Same goes for the MT32-Pi modules. Also i haven't seen any of the computers cores tests that benefit of such modules (AO486, AMIGA, X68000....). PS : I have on order the QMTech RAM included board since i could not manage to order the Mister Pi first batches. That one is not directly compatible with the RTC modules. It will need some DIY wiring. Hence my question for the Mister-Pi version.
Did you run the RAM test util? Mine didn't make it through a single run of the memory test until 126mhz where it sat for 5 minutes before dropping to 125 where it has been stable for a while. It is definitely the worst memory module I have ever tested.
I ordered mine but it looks like some of us are having issues with the shipping company DHL and 4PX are returning the misters back to the warehouse dont have a reason for it tho
Taki now has cases for the MiSTer Pi in a few different colors. If you were lucky enough to get a Pi in Batch 1 Part 1 or Batch 1 Part 2 he is offering the cases for $6.
can you see a noticeable difference between the standard mister with 18bit io card versus the taki clone with 24 bit io card for the cores that make use of 24 bit?
@@william18miller The HDMI is 24-bit. You can just do direct video and get the best of both worlds. Any MiSTer should support that. The analog out (VGA) on this model is 18-bit, however. I do direct video over HDMI and hook it up via component to my CRT and it looks great.
watching the video rn and typing this comment in the background! thanks for all the mister pi coverage, i ordered mine and realized after the fact that the physical SOG switch isnt on the clone, does SOG still work just by switching it in the ini and setting the vga to output component? asking because i have a 15khz crt that im so excited to use this on
Diff video signals use different sync types. Basically it’s the signal that tells a tv how to sync the data coming in to display the image stable on your screen. Some signals use csync (composite sync) and others use SOG, or sync of green, which is the green lead on component video. RGB uses its own independent sync cable and VGA has BOTH horizontal and vertical sync signals
The software is the same. The emulation on the fpga are also the same. Because there are doing the same !? The output should be also the same !? So they are the same output ! I don't think here is much difference between them except the price. The FPGA determs what happening so it would be identical ! Thanx for the content to explain. So the hardware difference doesn;t matten because the FPGA preforms the same on the misterboards.
@@VideoGameEsoterica it looks blury/washed out in some comparisons, you can see it in almost all of the comparisons, especially the vertical arcade game, look at the gating below, its slight but its there. Also the simpsons game, the original terasic looks slightly more defined where the Taki looks a bit less vibrant and slightly washed out. Im sure no one would care but you can definitely see the difference, at least on my screen.
@@VideoGameEsoterica Check out the gold stars for the vertical game; they seem a tiny bit less defined. softer around the edges and less gold in color compared to the Terasic board.
Off-topic: I finally got myself a Switch. I was watching the M2 documentary on MyLifeInGaming last night. I also got myself the NES Switch Online controllers. Double the price as you now can't get them on the Nintendo store; and who knows when Nintendo will make them again? I don't need a 2 pack but going to give one to my nephew. With a bit of play on the NES Classic controllers I have, I actually prefer them to Super Famicom controllers for 2 button games. But, not for fighting games as the d-pad is too sharp.
Heya, just here to leave the obligatory "MiSTer Pi is a stupid and seemingly deliberately confusing name" comment. I'd feel less bad about doing so if Taki hadn't had a VERY direct negative reaction from the community yet still chose to go along with it, he kinda brought that on himself. Otherwise, glad to see that FPGA hardware is finally becoming more attainable for the masses. That benefits everybody and these projects are very seriously appreciated.
I've wanted a Mister for ages, but couldn't afford it. The Mister Pi is an attractive alternative for the lower price point, but I was waiting for videos like this to verify that there were no issues with the clone board. So, it's not pointless for me. I'll feel confident buying this when the next batch rolls around.
I was so excited about n64 and ps1 that I didn't even think about playing arcade games on my MiSTer Pi when it arrives
Oh there’s hundreds of cores on the arcade side. Be prepared for fun
@@VideoGameEsoterica I'll look under my couch for some more quarters!

I've had my OG MiSTer for a few years now. What I'm really excited for is the portable.
The portable is the most exciting for sure

He delivered. But obv there is a whole company behind this and while we don’t know the rest of their names it’s def a team effort
I can't wait to try again in Batch 2. I really want one of these!
Hopefully with each batch it gets easier to grab one

Personally I'm glad that the Taki clone works as well as it does and I'm now having very high expectations for the portable Taki products.
It won’t change to a new platform for a while if it does
The only flaw with the MiSTer Pi is its name.
Apart from that: Simply brilliant work by Taki Udon.
Great video! Thx.
I guess at the end of the day the performance trumps the name and the performance is there :)

Make sure you are watching at 60 fps. It’s locked in my timeline
Going forward, can we just assume any tests, configurations, setups will be relevant for either board?
So far yes I’ve found zero incompatibilities. That being said as new add on boards come out I’ll notate if they work on both or just Terasic
I’d like to know how compatible (or not) the Taki board is with existing accessories. Like the Multisystem or the various JAMMA boards.
JAMMA is being worked on. Multisystem I do not know
Arcade MegaMan games were so fun. Hard, but fun
Def a fun pivot on the classic Mega Man formula
