I LOVE that you distinguished between optimism and biblical hope.
Too often I've seen being a Christian depicted as merely living optimistically, i.e. putting on an optimistic attitude. But hope is something, I've found, to be much more deep, profound, and durable than mere optimism.

If you read the story of rahab carefully, the word for “cord” when talking about the scarlet rope she was to hang out her window, it’s a word for hope connected to qavah. That means we all need the scarlet cord of Jesus in our life!! And He obviously is also the scarlet cord that runs through the old and New Testament!!

i remember back then, after I had graduated, i was looking for job, my family and friends keep prayed for me and my dad keep scolding me that i am such a looser in finding job.
But i prayed to God i just got a right hope, that God answered back to me "wait, just wait, i will give you the suitable job".
Is actually true i work near by where i live. My hope came true.

As a Filipino, we have this tagalog word 'kabah' or 'kaba' meaning to wait in anticipation as well until something happens either good or bad.

Starting this 'Advent Reflections' devotional plan today! What an interesting video and beautiful illustrations. “You are my yakhal.” This extraction from Psalm 39 verse 7 seems so intimate. Jesus is our living hope and The One who we wait for.
I pray for God's faithfulness to shine through in my devotion to him; I pray for the Holy Spirit to fill me with The Word of Our Lord. 🙌

I've been so inspired by you guys! I'm from Brazil and I fell in love immediately with the videos, the group and the purpose! Thank you for your lives! God has been glorified by you all and certainly has honoured and will honour all of you! I teached for a couple of teenagers in my church and helped me a lot to explain certain concepts and biblical themes! Also I have discipleship with a deaf woman, a friend of mine, and the videos are awesome so she can visualize better everything we study! I've watched 95 of The Bible Project's videos. This study on the word, "hope," is one of my favorites.

I would love a video from the Bible Project on the "rapture" in particular, now that you mention it. I have no idea about Tim and Jon's thoughts or beliefs on the rapture, but it's actually a very new concept, and one that isn't explicitly stated in scripture. Especially since TBP deals with how scripture was understood by those who first heard it taught, I'd love to see a video that deals with Revelation, and how it used to be read.

I believe Revelation 3:10 is a verse cited pretty often for evidence of a rapture (the verse from the passage you reference as well in 1Thessalonians), but the specifics of a rapture, where believers suddenly vanish and enter heaven is a modern concept. No matter your beliefs, a video on what was originally understood by these passages would be extremely helpful.
"Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth." Personally, I take this to mean the Lord has saved us from judgment by taking judgment on Himself.
I asked Jesus to show me what hope is and He showed me a picture of Him coming on the clouds and this video is all about waiting..🕊️🎶📯

Thank God he led me to this today- just when I was trying to explain the concept of having hope to my friends today. I pray that everyone in these Coronavirus circumstances looks back to what God has done in the past in order to have hope for the future
Loved this so much I had to listen to it 5 times. With my health condition, it can be hard to maintain hope in the Lord for a better future with less pain, but I was encouraged to be reminded that hope is a choice you can make despite any evidence that things will get better ❤️🙏.

I can't see that the circumstances could work but my hope is not based on circumstances but since few days I started feeling if I am crazy and what i am waiting for is not going to happenen. I will stick to the hope that God gave me and he who promised was faith, is faithful and will always be faithful.. I choose to wait for God because my hope is not based on optimism but my Lord Jesus Christ. I WILL LOOK FORWARD BY LOOKING BACKWARD, TRUSTING IN NOTHING OTHER THAN GOD'S CHARACTER.. Everyone keeping trusting God even if its hard and doesn't make sense and far from human understanding..
