I do work for Esmark the company providing all the parts to make a normal car a Garda car , the tucson are most popular 80 new 2021 and 25 2020 are being done and also few BMWs and Ford transits
Back in 2012 before when the Garda fleet needed updating BMW and Hyundai were in competition for the contract. BMW were actually offering far better value contract to the government but the Garda Public Relations office objected it as we were in the worst of the recession and thought the Gardai driving around in BMWs would give off a bad image despite being cheaper !
It was repaired and is still in service. It wasn't crashed and was involved in stopping a hijacked car with dangerous criminal on board. Tactical contact was made to bring the pursuit to a halt. Tools get broken in every job.
Fiat Doblo is also a relatively common small van. Unmarked Hyundais can be spotted if you see no tax/insurance discs in the winscreen or if you see metal mesh barriers behind the rear seats. Sirens are harder to spot, but a device mounted on the front dashboard (possibly ANPR and speed detection but not 100% sure). Skoda Octavia/Superb and Opel/Vauxhall Insignia can pop up occasionally but I think they're used by detective units and criminal assets bureau as opposed to roads policing. Many Renault Kadjars and similar vehicles are used for "community policing" during Covid but usually lightly marked with white "GARDA" livery on bonnet and/or sides. Obviously you'll almost never get stuck behind a Garda seeing as they drive faster than anyone else and are apparently above the law but as a rule of thumb don't overtake a white/grey/black Hyundai i30, i40 or Tuscon unless it's going below the limit (which means it's a civilian anyway).
They drive st focuses aswel. But like that golf r they have wrecked two of them. Their aswell driving taxis ect now 🤣 that’s not joke ether. Cool video.🤟
There's a 141 white BMW (saloon) I've seen aswell in Dublin,I'm assuming it's some sort of anti drug unit or something because the guards were plain clothes except for the belts and vests etc
Yeah, they are using people carriers like the Seat Alhambra and SUVs like the Peugeot 3008 for Covid Community operations, they hired out around 200 extra cars at the start of the pandemic
If a situation was so severe that an armoured vehicle was required, it would be more likely that the Army would be called to act as aid to the civil power, be it counter terrorism, extreme public order issues, or a barricaded and well armed criminal group.
@@MrMe345 Fair, but you'd wonder in the case of the Regency Hotel if the Guards had of arrived before they got away, AK-47s would penetrate bulletproof glass on the Armed Support Units vehicles, they're the most power assault rifle in the world. The q7 and bmw x5 have 3 litre diesels under 300hbp. Wouldn't call a 2.3 tonne vehicle with under 300 bhp high powered . Not sure what engine their 5 series cars have, likely the 30d and not the 35d
Yes, but they also have a built in turbo and fuel injection and 4WD to deal with the weight. They're also the preferred vehicle of most crims so they're now evenly matched.
@@imahappycamper2022 Your taking pure shite there lol. ALL modern diesels are turbo charged, even the 1.4 d4d Toyota Auris. Fuel injection too yea oh really ?? Yes they have 4wd, aka Quattro in Audi and X Drive in Bmw, which improves traction..but it slows the car down at higher speeds and adds weight. The only thing that would improve performance in a 3.0 TD would be an ECU remap.

Garda cars still have to be insured and put through the NCT. It's only the tax disc that's missing.
