Really enjoyed the video. LOTR has always had yhe best rules set of any GW game in my opinion. Im a 6th ed fantasy/old world fan and lotr fan. More of a hobbyist than a player so naturally i love your channel. Keep up the good work
Great review, awesome that you have been given a review copy as well 😀. It looks like a very cool kit, the sculpts are very nice with plenty of detail and motion captured. The details don’t look excessive either which would bog you down painting them. I love the addition of the two buildings as well. Boxed editions of games with two forces, terrain and rules aren’t very common at all these days.
Looks great Stu. Been focused on my 15mm for a couple of years but this is very tempting as my first and enduring love - been building a 15mm LOTR diaorama for the last year in between projects using fantastic LOTR inspired sculpts from a range called Wakeless Rex - absolutely terrific and added to nearly every month. Fab vid as always my friend. All the best. Stevie
Great vid Stu, good to have an overview to start with and the minis do look good. Ive not played MESBG but thinking this new rules edition is the time to give it a try. Long train journey on Monday so will be listening to the new Hobby Hour on the way. 😊
Great review! I for one am getting into this game as have a love for middle Earth! Would love to see more middle earth content from yourself (along with the upcoming empire ofcourse)
Great review and nice plastic sculpts. The early 2000's metal range was my first introduction to the Perry brothers sculpting, played battles often at my local GW after closing time, perks of befriending the shop manager 😄
Excellent video...very informative! Never been LotR heavy (only so much one person can do) my impression is that this looks like an excellent introduction...only drawback seems to be the shiny playmat
Would get this but I still have so much unpainted MESBG stuff from the Osgiliath starter. Really glad to see the game thriving and that it will get a look in on your channel. Great work as always!
Thanks Stu - great quality vid with your usual honesty and fairness about plus and minuses of hobby product. Your you review helped push me over the edge 😅 to buy my first brand new LoTR set. I’m more interested in the models for use in mass battle games using Oathmark or War of the Ring. Hopefully some more releases for new cavalry & older box sets. Thanks
Well now that is a big box of plastic! Wonderful looking minis, thanks a mil for the sneak peeks, Stu. Can we expect to see some painting vids for some of these? I hope so.
Great review Stuart! Agreed regarding the appearance of the figures. Possibly the animated characters are designed to look as realistic as possible, so miniatures based on them look realistic too :)
It's kind of weird to me how GW claims to do everything to attract new players but at the same time making the kits so ridiculously complicated (and uncreative) to build that even someone who built figures for 24 years buys the old metal versions of updated units when possible.
Nice, thanks. I'm undecided on getting that one or the one with city and rural because it looks a little bit more brown/yellow. I think it might be good for rohan and mesbg in general. How do you find the one you have for mesbg? Hard to se tint on a video
The whole reason I got into this hobby, as I'm a horseman, and not enough horses, big let down....unless something else is coming down the pipe in a few months
@MiniatureRealms Huan is the same way. Loveable pain in the rear that exists only to dig, beg for food, and hunt birds and rabbits. If you get sick of Balin, send him my way.
@@MiniatureRealms "Suddenly another voice spoke, low and melodious, its very sound an enchantment. Those who listened unwearily to that voice could seldom report the words that they had heard; and if they did, they wondered, for little power remained in them. Mostly they remembered only that it was a delight to hear the voice speaking, all that it said seemed wise and reasonable, and desire awoke in them by swift agreement to see wise themselves. When others spoke, they seemed harsh and uncouth by contrast; and if they gainsaid the voice, anger was kindled in the hearts of those under the spell." - LoTR, The Voice of Saruman
For some of you put a towel over your lap while building to catch flying parts. Them gamers with messy tables I dont know if you can be helped. You are going to lose stuff anyway.
Sorry I’m really not fully sure what you mean, might be the misspelling, assuming English is not your native language. This is a review of the new set, of which I had early access to, and was filmed before the film was released (therefore before I had seen it). Not really sure what you mean about old film photos.
@@MiniatureRealms Well ex whay is it a foto on bilbo? Have nothing to do whit the box. Only old fotos, Yes is b4 the cilm came out but still they cud have acces to clips from the new film soec the one frim the trailer so a bassiv fale from ni the artwork part, so bad its hurts the eyes when reading it!
Sorry this is very hard to read, I can assume you’re maybe on the Christmas 🍺. The contents of the box are mostly geared towards the film release; this includes the miniatures, play mat and scenario booklet. The exception to that being the rulebook, as it’s for ALL narrative settings that are covered in the wider game, so all the films etc. The main rulebook is also available separately, so really not very odd at all to include images from all the films 🤷♂️.
But they have, there are images from all in the films including the new one. The rulebook is for ‘all game settings they cover’ and the images reflect that. Not quite sure what you don’t understand there. But hey if that’s your opinion that’s cool, strange hill to die in though 🤷♂️.
Big congrats on getting your first GW review copy. Big. Good video too. I'm so hyped for this edition and the new plastics.
Thank you 😊
THANKS FOR SHARING!I HAD JUST ORDERED MINE FROM GW!
Hope you have loads of fun with it 🙂
Lovely painting in those model comparisons mate!
Thank you 😊

Thank you very much, and I love your account name, that’s brilliant.
Excellent overview Stu! I’ve just pre-ordered my set and I am excited to play through all the included scenarios.
Thank you, hope you have loads of fun with it, it’s awesome.

You’re totally right, it’s something that MESBG had done well for quite a few editions now.
Good encapsulation of the new box set. I'm excited for the new edition and look forward to more content.
Cheers Michael, hope you’re enjoying yourself at ToS.

Thank you Stevie, I think you’d do an amazing job on a LoTR themed diorama, that would be excellent.
Great summary Stu. Nice job on the minis too.
Cheers mate, just editing our chat from last night now 🙂

Plenty of both on the way 🙂
Great review and nice plastic sculpts.

Love the original Perry miniatures for the game, some of my favourite sculpts.
Yes new need more metal minis!
Atleast on the heros and spec minis!
Excellent video...very informative!
Never been LotR heavy (only so much one person can do) my impression is that this looks like an excellent introduction...only drawback seems to be the shiny playmat
Thank you, and yes I agree, but it’s there for complete beginners I guess.
Would get this but I still have so much unpainted MESBG stuff from the Osgiliath starter. Really glad to see the game thriving and that it will get a look in on your channel. Great work as always!

…I never got around to my Osgiliath stuff either 😅
Same here! Mrs has made me agree not to get another box til I've finished painting one 😅

I hope they give plenty of the old plastics the same treatment, would be great for the future of the game.
Just what i needed this morning, i was already perusing the box online. Nice one dude 👍
Thank you mate 🙂
Great overview, cheers Stu!
Cheers Jordan 🙂

Oh yes absolutely, first one on Tuesday, second one already filmed 🙂
Great review Stuart as always 😊
Thank you Paul 🙂
Nice work table. Very tidy.
Thank you 🙂

Thank you Julian, and I completely agree.

cool stuff, will listen to the next Out of the Hobby Hour!
Cheers Frederik, it will be out at some point tomorrow 🙂
Thanks stu, look forward to the hobby hour
Thank you Gary 🙂
Those look really nice
Lovely new miniatures for sure.
Could magnetizing be a good option with some of these models? 🤔
They’re pretty small, but I’m sure it possible if you really felt the need to.
It's kind of weird to me how GW claims to do everything to attract new players but at the same time making the kits so ridiculously complicated (and uncreative) to build that even someone who built figures for 24 years buys the old metal versions of updated units when possible.
Yeah this is definitely aimed at an older more experienced market.
Print a couple of houses and that box is done.
🙂
Hey man, is that the Gale Force Nine desert/grass mat you have underneath? Im trying to decide wich mat to buy and i thought it looked like that one
Yes it is, it’s simple but very good, great value with it being doubled sided as well. It’s my ‘standard leave on the table mat’, very versatile.
Nice, thanks. I'm undecided on getting that one or the one with city and rural because it looks a little bit more brown/yellow. I think it might be good for rohan and mesbg in general. How do you find the one you have for mesbg? Hard to se tint on a video
@EspenShampoo25 It’s great for it, and Old World.
Rohirrim - Horse Lords? Where are the ponies?
The whole reason I got into this hobby, as I'm a horseman, and not enough horses, big let down....unless something else is coming down the pipe in a few months
@@travman228you can grab the rohan battlehost
The set is based around the defence of Edoras, so I’m imagine that part of the film is done on foot.
@travman228 There’s loads of cavalry in the game, just not in this starter 🤷♂️
@MiniatureRealms I think I'm just jonesing for some fresh sculpts of Rohan riders
Hey Stu, is you dog, Balin, a cocker? I have a springer spaniel named Huan.
Yes he is, and a complete pain in the bum who is always hungry and eats literally anything and everything 😂. Love the name Huan
@MiniatureRealms Huan is the same way. Loveable pain in the rear that exists only to dig, beg for food, and hunt birds and rabbits. If you get sick of Balin, send him my way.
where was isengard when westfold fell?
fight the wolif ;]
🙂
The biggest question I have from the new edition is the board size. Is it still on a 4x4 or now the 3x3 is the new standard?
Stu says 3x3
At least what comes in the box!
@@jahvyn Is that the "starter box size" or what a regular game is supposed to be played on?
@@sebastiencarrieres8825 no idea, mate. The shiny mat 3x3
All of the above. 3x3 in the starter set for smaller games, standard is 4x4 and 6x4 for games of 1000pts and larger.
What have you done to deserve such an honour?
Great penance

Sauron looks after his own!...

😂 Good tip with the towel
What, none of the figures have big eyes or tiny mouths?
😂 It appears not
ilur to only have fotos from the old films and nothing related to the box and the new film! Quite big fail egnuff to not get it!

Yay overly engineered models... bah
Hate to see you build a model tank kit or higher grades of gunpla
They do look good for it though, swings and roundabouts.
@theycallmepiccolo9985 No need for the hobby flex 💪, completely different different context for those kits.
@ factual information. Defo woke up on the wrong side of the bed
@theycallmepiccolo9985 No worries dude
First in the Discord and on YT

Overpriced. Per usual.
It’s definitely not cheap
