As a crocheter learning to knit a top down hat this is perfect! In the crochet world this is what we call the magic loop , magic circle or magic ring. So if you’re like me and you like to watch multiple videos on a single technique you can look up magic circle crochet. I wasn’t confident in how to switch from the hook to the needles so this video was great! Thank you!

This is the first time (after way too many unfortunate false starts....) that this has made sense; thank you SO SO much! ❤

Yay! This is the only video of seven that showed clearly how to hold the yarn and begin the first few stitches.

Thank you for all of your videos. Elizabeth Zimmerman taught Emily Ocker's cast-on years ago but having videos that I can re-run as many times I need them makes life so much easier. You have helped this on again, off again so many times as I try to get my knitting skills back up to snuff.

Genius! I've always loved how neat the start of a top down crocheted hat is and dreaded doing top down knitted ones. Maybe I'll pick it up again. Thanks!

Wonderful! I had only the printed instructions on the 'Center Out Baby Blanket' ... you saved the day. (I needed the visual and your calming voice). Cheers.

This is super easy for crocheter. It is as if you are making a magic circle, but instead of having one stitch on the hook you are making it somewhat Tunisian crochet style (with all of your stitches on the needle). Transfer to knitting needles of choice and voila! This is helpful. As a crocheter and continental knitter it is super easy and beautiful.

I was wondering what I was doing wrong! It turns out I just wasn't knitting through the back loop. Subtle difference in the long run, but a little noticeable. Thank you!!!!

If you did this in "normal speed" people would complain "You're going too fast! Slow down!" but for me it is so slow, that it is unnerving to me. lol! I want to speed it up so I can learn it. It is so slow, that I forget what was the last step before another step is (slowly) coming along. ANYWAY THAnks for posting this how to.

It's a cast on technique that you use for circular knitting. Like if you want to knit a circular shawl or a doily. Hope that helps!

Please slow down. The Initial yarn on your hand we can't really what you are doing to set up the yarn.
Parts of the Video were great but but much of what I need to see I cannot.
Maybe add at the beginning what Tools you would be using.
If we knew how to do magic look we wouldn't need to learn how to cast on.
I guess I am frustrated because I am trying to learn but Videos like this are more for people that already know what they are doing.
    I am clueless.
I cannot make sense of most of anything you were doing.
    Best of luck to you.

I am so sorry, Alison. I absolutely understand what you are talking about. I made this video a long time ago, before I understood how to really show all aspects of a technique. I am no longer making knitting videos for a living but if I were I would re-do this one for you. My sincerest apologies.
