as someone with adhd, i have such a hard time starting tasks, and an even harder time continuing them when i don’t like them. this video really helped me think about how i can rethink my motivations and attitude towards tasks.
Omg I have the same issue. Once I start I’m good, but I find task initiation so so hard what has helped me is to give myself a 5 min transition period. This is the case with pretty much everything from something as apparently simple to other people like getting out the shower to sitting down and doing a hobby to writing an essay. Like transitioning is very hard and I’m still trying to work it out. A 5 minute transition period seems to be working though at least for studying like giving myself 5 minutes to wrap up put things away then before I go back have a way I start each time, because if something becomes routine i am good at remembering it but find maintains routine hard.
@@Meg_intheclouds try telling yourself that you’ll only do 10 minutes or even 5 is what I find helps me , then once you’re started decide how long you want to actually spend
Thank you for reminding us to also enjoy and appreciate other things apart from studying - it can be so easy to get swept up by work when in the midst of exam season.
I loved the 'why I study' section. For years my answer to that question has been "because I have to, there is no other choice" so hearing the positive alternatives was very eye opening and something I'm sure I will remember for the rest of my life.

I've realized how much you motivate me, Ruby. Whenever I have to study and I'm not feeling much like doing it but I know "I have to" because I can't keep pushing my deadlines anymore, I watch one of your videos, and it always helps. Like when I watch you organize yourself, or reading or studying, I immediately feel like studying or reading. You just make studying look cozy and fun and important.
This whole Easter weekend I've been in a rut and dreading doing my last few bits of coursework and revising for my exams and handing in my dissertation. This video really helped me section out everything I need to get done so it doesn't seem like one overwhelming mess. tysm Ruby!
From time to time i get into these study-slumps where I will suddenly loose all interest and motivation when it comes to my academics, but watching your videos just puts me right back in the learning mood.
Happy Easter, Ruby - deadlines are important, but so too is life. Take care not to burn yourself out in your efforts to meet the former!
Such a nice and productive video to end the easter break with! Just got the notion template and made it my own since my first exam is a process-exam (had 2 weeks before easter, now I have 2 weeks left) where the viewing and conversation with the examiner is on the 3rd of May. I definetely needed the motivational questions, priorities, deadlines, to-do lists and break/self care points written down so that the next two weeks can be as great and productive as it can be with all the stress coming with it. After that is a written exam for one month, I have already set an internal deadline!
Good luck to you Ruby and everyone going into the exam season or submitting your dissertations! We're so close, we can do this!

This is a much-needed video for me. It is Wednesday for me (my only semi-day off, I use it to catch up and deep dive on topics I struggle with), currently in accelerated physics and I am definitely struggling with burnout and forgetting why I love science so much; and this video is a great reminder about how incredibly privileged I feel to learn and understand how everything in the universe works. Big deadlines coming up for the end of my final year! One research paper, one paper on my personal and professional growth and one paper on everything I have to become a proficient teacher during my internship. And than two assessments. And than hopefully I'll be done in July!!! Ahhh! Can't wait and can't believe it. (Studying to become an English-as-a-second-language teacher, it's a 'practical degree', so I'm working as a teacher in secondary school and finishing my degree at the same time! Ah hard work. I have loved seeing what you got up to during your time at uni. I love (English) literature and poetry. Fell in Love with Alice in Wonderland when I was a little girl (albeit in Dutch) and later in English! It's still my favorite book of all time. Goodluck with your deadlines!! Anyone who thinks that writing a picturebook is super easy and Ruby can do it in a weekend is about to be surprised at how complicated picturebooks actually are! Those of us in children's lit are well familiar with the earnest but unrealistic people, usually parents, we encounter who gush "I always wanted to write a picturebook! They look so fun and easy, and I'll be able to earn enough money to-" It's 100% "oh, my sweet summer child" territory, but oh, what an amazing genre of lit if you do get into it.

Ruby, i don’t know if you already know this but something that’s not healthy is keeping snacks like that hidden away in your room. It’s a much better idea to keep them in your kitchen and then when you need a snack you can have a mini break walking downstairs to grab something to eat. Hope you’re taking care of yourself
