Never to late to talk about good books! It makes me so happy to see you having such a blast being back with Red Rising again. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the sequel books. And heck yes on Jennette's memoir, one of the best I have ever read. Also really resonated with me because of her mental health/ED struggles, such a brutally raw and honest depiction of that. Hope April is treating you well 🥰🥰
Red Rising was calling me so hard this past couple months. XD It feels so good to be back in that world. And we're finally ready for Iron Gold! Jennette did an amazing job on her memoir. I think the best memoirs are the ones that resonate and linger. I hope April is treating you well too, my friend
Hi Tori, Glad to see you back! I have just completed Red Rising and The Three Body Problem. Both took me a little to get used to reading/ listening. Funny enough, it was the audiobook that made TBP reading easier where it was (initially) the opposite with RR. The narrator on RR grew on me and the story captured my imagination. Can’t wait for book 2! TBP was interesting but did not capture me. I hear book 2 is better but I’m not in a rush. Both of the Andrews have books I’m interested in reading, as well. Hope all continues to go well for you and your family!
Hey Scotty! Thank you so much! It's good to be back. I'm glad that RR hooked you, and I hope you have a great time with the rest of the series! I haven't listened to them on audiobook yet, but I'd like to at some point. I've heard enough about TBP that I know it's probably not going to be a good match for me. It's always good to know more about your tastes!
my favorite of March was also a memoir! how far the light reaches by sabrina imbler, audio read by the author as well. it was absolutely gorgeous talking about so many intimate details of their life as well as fun facts about sea creatures! seamlessly blended their life with the sea creature life it was amazing I highly recommend
Great reading month! Love how much indie-fantasy you've got in here. I am wrapping up 3 Body Problem by Liu Cixin and realizing that I have a BIG appetite for sci-fi! I've heard Pierce Brown's series is incredible. Might be my next sampling of the genre :) Definitely dodged a bullet with the child acting stuff. Makes me think about Shia Lebouf's stories about his time on Even Stevens. If you haven't seen the movie "Honey Boy" you might find it interesting! I actually found it deeply moving. Touches on some of this.
If you're feeling some sci-fantasy vibes definitely try Red Rising! It's not as cerebral as 3 Body Problem and harder sci-fi, but the characters are phenomenal.
I jumped back into the classics for my book of the month in March. Without question it was The Count of Monte Cristo which I finally read for the first time. Absolutely loved it and none of the TV/movie adaptations that I have seen do it justice.
Great wrap-up! I'm so behind on my SPFBO9 finalist reads. My spouse is caught up with me on Morning Star, so hopefully picking Iron Gold soon! -Cheers Tori!
Looks like you have had plenty of good reading in March Tori. I read Golden Son in March and will hopefully be moving onto Morning Star sometime soon. I managed to read 4 books and 1 comic book in March. All the books were between 4 and 5 star reads. Books: Winterset Hollow - Jonathan Edward Durham Golden Son - Pierce Brown Eversion - Alastair Reynolds I Shall Wear Midnight - Terry Pratchett (which was a re-read) Comic book: Rat Queens - Volume 3: Demons My book of the month was Winterset Hollow. It was very close between that and Golden Son.
Due to a loss in the family (a saintly old aunt of mine, much beloved by our whole family), I only finishe three novels in March: «Brother Red» by Adrian Selby (Grimdark Fantasy, standalone «midquel» to «Snakewood» & «The Winter Road»), «Judas Blossom» by Stephen Aryan (Historical Fantasy inspired by the Mongol Conquest of Persia) and «Suldrun’s Garden» by Jack Vance (book #1 in the «Lyonesse» Trilogy, (Pre-)Arthurian Fantasy). April has already been much better: I have already finished «The Fort» by Adrian Goldsworthy (City of Victory Trilogy #1, Historical Military Fiction set during the Campaigns of Roman Emperor Trajan, Sequel Trilogy to the «Vindolandia» Trilogy), «Empire of Silence» by Christopher Ruocchio (Sun Eater #1, Space Opera/Sci Fantasy) and «Islands in the Net» by Bruce Sterling (80’s (Post-)Cyberpunk 😄), and I have just started on «Howling Dark» (Sun Eater #2)! I plan to continue on with «The Lyonesse Trilogy» and might finish book #2 «The Green Pearl» this month too! Cheers!
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, my friend. I'm glad that April has been treating you well with some good reads. How are you liking Sun Eater so far?
@@ToriTalks2 Most kind of you Tori, thank you very much, much appreciated!🙏 Based on «Empire of Silence», it is an ambitious debut: I am maybe not as enamored (yet) with Ruocchio’s writing and characters as others are, but I would be lying if I did not see great potential in the story and given most consider «EOS» their least favorite, it is a very competent debut full of literary references (I have about 4,5 pages of notes!😅) and I am excited to continue the journey and see Ruocchio, the characters and the story develop!
Great Video! I love Red Rising Trilogy as well, and have probably read it 3 times. I need to pick it back up and do a reread because I also want to dig into the next set of books. I'm actually wanting to try to get my wife into it. We've talked about doing a bit of a book swap, she mainly reads like Romance and Thrillers, and some horror. While I lean more to Sci-Fi and Fantasy. But I'm thinking Red Rising might be a series she could really get into, its just such a well written amazing story. Really hoping she likes it but we shall see.
My criticisms of Red Rising aside, it's cool that it resonates with you so much, I just wish that was the case with me. From memory, Victra was far and away my favourite character. My book of the month was Ken Liu's Veiled Throne and I'm so sad I've 1 book left. Everything else was re-reads, like Daniel Abraham's Age of Ash and the first 4 books of R Scott Bakker's Second Apocalypse.
Victra is AWESOME. I'm glad you liked her. :) I can't wait to get to Dandelion Dynasty, I have heard so many great things and I think Ken Liu is a really cool person.
My memory of Morning Star is fading as I get deep into Iron Gold. My favorite scene was probably the wedding scene, love me some good happy/cozy vibes. I am thankful that Pierce didn't ruin that one for us. What was your favorite?
My book of the month is The girl in the eagle's talons by karin Smirnoff book 7 in the millennium series i was surprised that i enjoyed thus book i didn't enjoy the 3 books that David wrote for the series I also read jennette mccurdy memoir last year it's truly a good but important book
Hey torii! I've been reading mistborn book 2 and have come to a realization that i love female protagonists a lot more can you recommend me some works!
I’m so glad you’ve been loving Mistborn! Some books that came to mind right away: - Assassin of Grins and Secrets by KE Andrews - Sword of Kaigen by ML Wang - Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier - Guns of the Dawn by Adrian Tchaikovsky - Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne - Pawn’s Gambit by Rob J Hayes - Red Sister by Mark Lawrence - A Touch of Light by Thiago Abdalla Some books that aren’t female protagonist led but have amazing female characters: - Red Rising Saga - Never Die by Rob J Hayes - Riverfall Chronicles by Jacqueline Hagen Also if you are interested, my dark paranormal fantasy Phased is a pair of sister protagonists, and my epic fantasy The Blood Stones has three MCs, one of them female as well. 💜
Love that fact that you're willing to say what's not working for you alongside celebrating what does. Keep up the honest work, Tori.
Thank you, Joe! I try to stay honest. 💜 Thank you for watching

I’m here for the fantasy and sci-fi but you’re personal insights into that last book were really interesting!

Oooh! That sounds amazing!
My March book of the month had to be Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. It was just so moving and real.

Nice! I love a good classic, and Count is so good! I've read part of it, but my husband is a huge fan. I want to finish it at some point!
Red Rising saga is so great!
Agreed!!!

Glad to see you're back! I'm Glad My Mom Died was fantastic in the worst way. Very excited to see you dive into Iron Gold, hahaha.
Me too. It’s long overdue. I’m adding it to my May reads and I can’t wait. 🤩
Hi 👋 great video!! You read some good books!! Happy reading to you!! 😊
Thanks so much! Happy reading to you too!

Sevro’s stopping the massacre of Cassius and the other Golds 🤌🏻
@ToriTalks2 Yes!!! I was like "damn, Sevro, didn't know you had the brains for an idea like that!"
@@ryanskeff he’s full of surprises 😂
Egyptian mythology? game, Set, match! (I'll put myself in timeout...) - also, The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter was my book of the month :)
😂😂
Almost a child actor? Dodges a bullet there probably! Awesome as always.
