    I think the davenport dress is a good choice as you know you like wearing that style. I agree with you about leaving off the shoulder frills, as it might be a bit too much; keep the dress pared back and just let that lovely fabric take centre stage.

    I think the Davenport would be lovely in your gorgeous tencel. I would keep the little shoulder frill, I think it’s lovely. The pink fabric is my favourite shade of pink! You are going to be very busy, Cath!

    How patient you are unpicking and sorting the black jumper. Maybe it was just that particular batch that made it behave differently. Crazy but I have heard different dyes and fabric percentages can alter the fabric.

    Hi Cath! While I was watching your video I was cutting out a few LB Pullovers. I have made so many of these in both stretch and woven. Even though it recommends to cut the neck on the bias for woven I have never done that and found it to be absolutely fine and can easily get it over my head cutting on the straight grain. Looking forward to seeing yours. Cheers Karin in Australia.

    I had the same thing happen with Vikisews Ruta pants…turned out HUGE…I’m trying them again in a smaller size! As far as the Davenport Dress: I love that dress! I just made one in rayon, but wanna try it in linen, perhaps leaving off the bottom ruffle…also not sure! Your plans look good…can’t wait to see how that pink sweatery knit turns out!

    Hi Cath
    Lovely to see you again
    Your fabric and patterns are really nice love your plans for all the garments you will be making
    I personally am a fan of stretch fabric and love making a polo neck or cowl jumper
    I reuse the same patterns if I find one I like
    Don’t laugh but I’ve been making a skirt pattern I have for well over 30 years it is so lovely with 4 pressed pleats in the front
    I can just see your dolls dresses hanging up on little coat hangers all in different shades of pink your daughter will be thrilled
    And your cushions will look so cheerful in the playroom when I make cushions I just do an overlay at the back so easy and quick at the moment I’ve started crocheting my cat blankets for the cats home near my town
    Last year I made 10 I think and I hope to continue this year just with wool left over from my projects I’m near the end of my cardigan now so hopefully I’ll be saying it is finished next week
    Take care and have a good week sending lots of love xx❤️❤️❤️❤️

      Hi Paula
      Thank you, I’m looking forward to all of the projects 😊
      It’s great to be able to reuse patterns isn’t it! Especially one you really love. Sounds like you have got excellent value for money out of your skied pattern 😊
      Thanks I’m really looking forward to the dolls clothes, I love the idea of tiny pattern pieces!
      That’s so nice to make blankets for your local cat home! They must be very grateful for them.
      Good luck finishing your cardigan, good timing to finish it so you can layer up with this chilly weather.
      Hope you have a good week too xx❤️❤️❤️❤️

    Those fabrics are amazing! And it’s comforting to a relatively new sewist, that I’m not alone in struggling to decide and changing my mind several times about what to make up with new fabrics, even when I thought I was set on something. I’ve been curious but intimidated about sewing knitted-looking fabrics like your pink fabric, without having an overlocker. I wasn’t sure at first about the Davenport for your check patterned fabric, but I think your idea of playing with the direction on the yokes would be really fun and nice for it. At first I thought leaving the second tier off would maybe suit the busy-ness of the fabric better, but the more I think about it, the more I think it might be nicer to leave on. Exciting!

      You can see knit fabrics on a standard sewing machine with a zigzag stitch

    • @angelawhite7870
      @angelawhite7870 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@india1422 Thank you. I wasn’t sure if that would go ok, since I’ve found that the zigzag stitch works better for some fabrics than others to “hold” the edge from fraying, and thought that I’d seen other vlogs about using those sorts of knitted fabrics that said they could be quite fray-ey.

    • @madebycathcraft
      @madebycathcraft  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you very much for your thoughts on the Davenport dress 😊 I do often sew with knit fabrics using just my sewing machine as a lot of them don’t tend to fray. I’ve started sewing the pink cable knit fabric now and it does look like it sheds a little at the raw edges so I think I will be overlocking that one.

    I think the question of the difference of the Freya and the Nikko recently came up in a Guthrie and Ghani session and I think it was said that the Nikko has more negative ease, is therefore more close fitting. Loved seeing your plans and the lovely fabrics:)

    When my daughter was small I made a whole suitcase of clothes for her doll! There are lots of patterns out there for them and plenty of matching children's + doll patterns too. Its a great scrap buster and fun to add ribbons and lace trim and fancy one-off buttons. I even made sleeping bags 😂. We've kept all of them just as we kept the lego. Some toys never lose their fun value. Can't wait to see your snuggly pink cable top. It is lovely fabric. Great save on the black ribbed top. I just commented on Izzy's vlog (Dizzy Quilts and Sews), that almost all my fails over the years have been due to pattern/fabric mismatches. I have gotten much better at it but occasionally misjudge the behaviour of a fabric. I can picture your check as a beautiful Davenport but simplifying by leaving off the shoulder ruffle and narrowing the sleeve will also make it easier to pop a cardigan or even a pullover on for extra warmth and a completely different look. I would definitely cut the yoke on the bias for visual interest pulling the eye up to your face. Can't wait to see what you decide to do in the end.

    • @madebycathcraft
      @madebycathcraft  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you so much for your thoughts on the Davenport dress. I agree, I am still learning on fabric and sometimes it just doesn’t match quite right with a pattern and it can make all the difference.
      Ahh that’s so lovely that you made doll sleeping bags, my daughter would love those too, I’ll add it to my list of things to try! I love the idea of adding little buttons and trims too to make them extra special!
      I’m finding that with toys too, we’ve got a little stash in our loft of ones I’d like to hold on to 😊

    I think if you want something to look a little more oversized I’d go with a boxy shaped pattern like the Nora or munro turtleneck. The shaping of the southbank might make it look like it ought to be tighter but isn’t. I’ve not made the southbank sweater though only the dress.
    I worked with a black rib knit once, it was evil 😂 grew and grew and caused tons of issues!

    • @madebycathcraft
      @madebycathcraft  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you that’s really good to know. I’ve not tried either the Nora or Munro but I’d like an oversized pattern like that so I’ll have a look at both of them.
      I’m glad it’s not just me with black rib knit. It really did grow, I wasn’t expecting it and it was quite a surprise 😂😂

    Lovely makes Cath. The pink cable fabric is gorgeous, i saw it on the Higgs and Higgs website but i found it difficult to imagine with the cables going horizontally, so i was really interested to hear you say you might use it vertically. I shall wait with interest to see what you decide. Thank you.

    Why not cut out the cream fabric as planned but hand baste it together.You will then be able to see if you like the fit and either then make it or re cut it to a style you'd prefer. I would make up the pink fabric so the rib looks vertical,as it would if you knitted it .Having said that I would trust your judgement as your makes always look fab. Your daughter is going to love having dolls outfits to play with.

    Hi Kath, I was just wondering how you were planning on cutting out your pink cable knit fabric - with the cables going across, or down? I have some very similar fabric in cream, that I was planning on using for the Toaster Sweater (the one with the high boat neck and more fitted body, in the cropped length). But I haven't made it yet because I think I want the cables going down rather than across, and I'm not sure if that works on a knit.

    • @madebycathcraft
      @madebycathcraft  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there, I think I’m going to cut it with the cable going across, but I have seen someone on Instagram make a polo neck top on the same fabric and cut the body worn the cables going down and it looked like it works fine that way too 😊👍

      I have that Higgs & Higgs pink fabric, I bought the navy version (and made a W&W Hot coffee). It’s lovely fabric but I have found it pulls easily. Are you a member of their club? I joined in October and wonder when the member days are? Great plans, as ever!
