You know that Reapers have an ability that allows them to "mark" a target just by seeing it, and that any target "marked" by said reaper is permanently visible right?
I noticed that she does a seppuku in her defeated animation. It's a nice touch, it adds more to her character, considering she talked about honour every time I encountered her. So, alien Samurai?
Know I'm like years away from these post (this is an awesome game) buy the seppuku really represents dying with honour and proving that you were innocent in your actions by taking your own life. So maybe the aliens are doing something to preserve earth. Just different mindsets between the aliens and humans
@@FATAsWOLF I'd say that aliens are more like about preserving their own kind, that's the point of this game, the Elders are dying and they need humans to survive. But your point about dying with honour still stands, she died on duty and with clear conscience, if Aliens believe in it of course.
A combo of a Reaper with Banish and Ranger with Double Tap and high hit chance (thank you Covert Missions for making some of my operatives OP), I was able to push back the Assassin in most cases. The missions where she caught me off guard were the ones where my top Reaper and Ranger were NOT in that mission.

The perfect counter to the Assassin is a Reaper with the skill that makes any unit spotted by a Reaper permanently spotted. Come to think of it, it's the perfect counter to any of the Chosen.
@@aeureus Yeah I laughed when the sniper-rifle-wielding Hunter, who had the Brittle weakness (extra melee damage received), decided to jump off his extremely high vantage point down to ground level right in front of my three melee characters. He died instantly.
XCOM: A melee character that's immune to Overwatch? Fine, I'll just shoot her after she's gotten a hit off. Assassin: *Bending Reed* "I'm fast as fuck boi"
Funnily enough, despite being alien, the assassin is actually a massive fucking weeb: -The sword is named katana -The shotgun is named arashi (meaning storm) -The bit of Japanese flute in her theme -The fact that she commits seppuku in death cutscene
The Chosen were originally human, and then the elders grabbed them and start making genetic manipulation. To me it is clear she was Japanese when she was human. Either that or the thing just liked it.
The warlock and the hunter gave me no trouble when it came to defeating them, but the assassin? The one I killed first? She was by far the scariest and the closest to failing I've been.
Paying respects to the Assassin on my recent playthrough. Would've kept her around longer but I met her late game and she had a LOT of perks that were a bitch to deal with. Like revealing my concealed units or *planeswalker.* Also this playthrough she wore a really awesome looking mask, so bonus kudos.
I took at her first time in long war yesterday. She slew 3 of my hideout guys and grievly injured 2 operatives (with help of alien fodder) . That's the best outcome i've came to. Thrilling. Shit, i don't want to cross chosen ones in longwar again, and it's feels awesome.
@@timm1729 well i didn't choose to fight her). Btw i wrecked her later with reaper. She actualy were easiest of 3 after all my playthrough, even tho she got that trait which stacks up armor if i miss on her. She can be kited all around map without any troubles. Warlock always had burned my guys to the crisp, so they out for like a month (then i assaulted his fortress i took vests and wipe the floor on him). and Hunter was just strait unfair (point-blank shots from pistol, then sniper shot, then repos after every good shot i got on him), my luck i've met him once before the fortress.
Commander Ironman run. I got lucky and researched inspired mag weapons and pred armor quickly. Immediately had reapers find her hidey hole and went in. So anyway I started blasting at everything that moved and soon enough I had her commiting sudoku while praying for our success. She may be hard to deal with at times but I love how honorable she is.
Ugh. Second time I encountered the Assassin was near the beginning of the Alien Blacksite mission. In a very movie-trope-esque fashion, the bitch took out my medic first from full health, leaving him bleeding out. With a full medkit load of course. One other trooper had a medkit, but naturally it was already used. And since this was the Blacksite mission, I couldn't summon an evac. So my medic's gone, plus his upgraded weapon unless I wanted to haul his ass all the way through the Blacksite map, through enemy lines, to the prearranged evac point. I admit it, I rage-quit and replayed that mission from beginning.
Something more dramatic happend for me My reaper got revealed by a faceless and the assassin stunned her. Since it was a reaper ofcourse she was far away from the rest of the team so she got captured while the assassin gave special dialogue about capturing a reaper
"Oh boy i bet i can just take a vet and rookies and complete a simple escort mission" *few turns later* "oh boy now im surrounded by shitload of advent troopers and all but 1 rookie is dead along with the vet ,the escort and the rest is dead"
Just got done with researching her katana and shotgun, and by god, these are probably the best weapons I've seen in the entire game. Not only is their damage obscenely high, they're also extremely reliable to use and come with plenty of additional bonuses to your own soldier.
The Hunter's Sniper is probably the best weapon of the chosen. Needs only one action to fire and has four attachments, and free reloads. Perfect for eliminating entire pods.
Yeah the katana is wonderful for using the Ranger's Reaper ability. The damage is so high that it still one-shots a lot of undamaged enemies despite the stacking damage self-debuff.
The most interesting of the Chosen as her dialogue occasionaly shows she seems to somewhat care for humanity, and she even hopes that you reclaim Earth from the Elders upon defeating her. In addition if you kill on of her siblings first the Elder states she feels emptiness. Implying that she mourns or feels some sense of loss. Whereas the other two feel arrogance or satisfaction at the loss of their sister.
i will have to agree with all the comments the psi warlock, haven't met him in combat yet the hunter, yeah he is definitely annoying the assassin, yes is actually a huge threat, she is always invisible and you don't know where she will be on top of that when she does get out of invisibility she delivers a devastating blow to her target, stunning and severely damaging them plus having shadow-step makes your traps for her coming in completely useless, and after her strike, just like the templars melee strike, show gets an extra movement action and gets away into cover despite being so powerful as she is, her personality, personally, even on the enemy team, she respects her opponent (us) and even gives compliments in such wise words, even tho she adds in the part where she is going to kill your soldiers and capture you. even respects and compliments our actions to helping our comrades. unlike the hunter, she has honor and respect in both combat and to our being itself. if i had to lose to the enemy, specifically to one of the chosen, it would be the assassin.
Scariest looking in the trio imo. I like her design honestly(Not because of the katana). Her face looks intimidating and soundtrack is also my favorite and you know, she's the cover girl.
This theme song was epic, made my TF2 Squad (yes I actually tried to make the mercs in XCOM) looks even cooler as they fought The Assassin. Battle Logs on how Team Fortress 2 took down The Assassin: - Soldier and Demo once blew her entire cover down and Heavy then mowed her down with Chain Shot. (If god had wanted you to live, he would not have created me!) (Ka-boom!) (Yatatatatatata- kaboom! kaboom!) - Scout managed to outrun her as he chased her and took her down with a Storm Gun critical hit. (I'm runnin' circles around you!) - Spy while concealed grappled in just behind The Assassin and took her down with a sword slash (Sorry to pop in unannounced)
Shawnlings like most things, there’s a mod for that that restrict chosen stronghold missions to later on in the story missions (ie you need to finish the ADVENT forge mission to locate the stronghold)
When your soldiers call out Overwatch while this song is playing in the background is pretty epic; to rely on shotguns and melee to make a direct or critical hit and reveal her position with grenades or rocket launchers...
Of the three siblings she is the "nicest" one, at least. Conceding defeat when finally brought down and wishing you fortune in reclaiming your world. The sniper is the slightly less hostile one, though he will still just as happily kill you as both others. The Warlock is just.. batshit crazy. Out of all the three I still hate the Assassin the most though. Unless you get a free camera move revealing where she stopped before reaching you, you have to wait or just guess that she reaches you in two-ish moves and use the scanner in the direction she came from. Many times, of course, this is not the case and she wanders aimlessly around and can take a dozen rounds to reach you - has happened to me MANY times. Though I have played this game for 560 hours. All in attempts to make it through a game without losing a single soldier on hardest difficulty ironman. Multiple times reached the end mission but failing at the very end.
makes me wonder. what if. what if there is a system where you could spare the chosens and save them. or just dont kill them and finish the golden path mission. wouldnt it be col if we could just liberate the chosen from the grasp of the elders?
Assassin's honestly probably the hardest of the Chosen to face off against. You've gotta chase her out of wherever she goes and outside of a 1v1 that's really difficult. Warlock meanwhile is almost completely useless if you give your units Mind Shields, and Hunter kinda just forces your Sniper to dash between corners of the building you have them on all mission.
TigerKirby215 I got lucky with Assassin she was shell shocked and I had a reaper that marks her targets so as long as I had explosives and a reaper she was no threat
>Playing Long war of the chosen >So far so good, I have the complete asian bonus and managed to rush magnetic weapons, and the avatar project isn't even started >the chosen start harassing me >"noisy vermin, give me AP so I can be even more OP" >I take one beating after the other, and they're only becoming stronger >Finally I found myself in a lost mission that also has the assassin appearing, she's now 50% resistant to melee, drains health, is vulnerable to explosives and the marauder that could kick her ass is elsewhere. >There is no headshot bonus with the lost, so I can actually get mauled to death if I use explosives. You know, it feels refreshing considering your missions with thoughts like "I should call the skyranger right here, so I can escape as soon as the objective is complete, before the team is butchered"
Imagine if your best soldier bobbed and weaved through the fucking hellscape that is a Chosen fight, especially when you fight them for the last time, making HISTORY! and then they get fucking rekt by a God Damn lost or trooper.
Just played War of the Chosen. I loved it. Xcom people borrowed some mechanics from Darkest Dungeon and Shadow of Mordor. And they executed it perfectly and so professionally.
Loved her character, but hated fighting her to death. I almost uninstalled WotC because of my first fight with her, I was thinking something like, "Oh my gosh, are all three of them going to be this hard!?" Thankfully I found Hunter and Warlock easier to deal with, but, still.
"I'm telling you, kids, it was a pretty rough fight. First we had to get through the building, filled with Advent soldiers and Aliens. Freaking viper almost got me there. Good thing we brought our Spark unit with us. That thing is literally unstopable, it always saves our asses in a fight. Than we got to fight a Chosen. Again. That bitch just wouldn't die! But it went down eventually. Once more. Thanks to the Reaper and her claymores"
Lets be honest the Warlock may as well be an old cripple when you have a mind-shielded ranger, and for The Hunter is vulnerable to out positioning from classes with high speed or a grappling hook. But every time I face the assassin it feels like fighting unbeatable opponent that you just barely beaten with your team after each was beaten to a pulp
XCOM: A melee character? No problem, I'll just go on overwatch!

“Assassin attacks and goes into overwatch” My Ranger with shadowstep: Okay, my turn
I noticed that she does a seppuku in her defeated animation. It's a nice touch, it adds more to her character, considering she talked about honour every time I encountered her. So, alien Samurai?
She *does* wield a katana.
Nah, more like an Alien Shinobi
well. she was about to die anyway.
Am i the only one who enters in panic when this music starts to play when i am almost killing an specter or other strong enemy, like a avatar?
Well the Assassin is the most difficult out of the three and if you've installed the mod wrath of the chosen AI pack which btw give them 3 actions and a hyper intelligent AI which i have then I can rightfully say that you are not the only one. And idk about you but i fucking hate the Assassin.
A girl with guts and honour! I like that. But it's a shame you serve the Elders
I understood that reference.

The perfect counter to the Assassin is a Reaper with the skill that makes any unit spotted by a Reaper permanently spotted. Come to think of it, it's the perfect counter to any of the Chosen.
The warlock and Hunter just chase you close quarters regardless...so really only good on the assassin.
@@aeureus Yeah I laughed when the sniper-rifle-wielding Hunter, who had the Brittle weakness (extra melee damage received), decided to jump off his extremely high vantage point down to ground level right in front of my three melee characters. He died instantly.

Lol mine had that too. I had high movement Rangers and a Skirmisher though, so thankfully chasing her down wasn't too hard most of the time.
lifetime supply of ADVENT burgers says she was a human ranger before she got left for dead and uplifted
Funnily enough, despite being alien, the assassin is actually a massive fucking weeb:
-The sword is named katana
-The shotgun is named arashi (meaning storm)
-The bit of Japanese flute in her theme
-The fact that she commits seppuku in death cutscene
The Chosen were originally human, and then the elders grabbed them and start making genetic manipulation.
To me it is clear she was Japanese when she was human. Either that or the thing just liked it.
@@AnotherFancyUser so she might be a weeb?
Oh god no
@@musicexams5258Weebs From Space. The Elders' most terrifying invention.
The warlock and the hunter gave me no trouble when it came to defeating them, but the assassin? The one I killed first? She was by far the scariest and the closest to failing I've been.
Now the real battle begins, Commander!
POV : You lost the mission

Soldier Tom Osis: WHY DO I HEAR BOSS MUSIC
I took at her first time in long war yesterday.
She slew 3 of my hideout guys and grievly injured 2 operatives (with help of alien fodder) .
That's the best outcome i've came to. Thrilling. Shit, i don't want to cross chosen ones in longwar again, and it's feels awesome.
Fighting against her pointless if you dont have reaper. She wrecks you hard at the begining.
Weird how in at least 300 hours she didn't pull out her shotgun even once
Commander Ironman run. I got lucky and researched inspired mag weapons and pred armor quickly. Immediately had reapers find her hidey hole and went in. So anyway I started blasting at everything that moved and soon enough I had her commiting sudoku while praying for our success.
She may be hard to deal with at times but I love how honorable she is.
My headcanon is she sneaks on board the avenger to leave any rangers you have a bottle of booze
Something more dramatic happend for me
My reaper got revealed by a faceless and the assassin stunned her. Since it was a reaper ofcourse she was far away from the rest of the team so she got captured while the assassin gave special dialogue about capturing a reaper
Assassin: *gets revealed by a ranger*
The rest of my squad: *AWAKEN INTENSIFIES*

She and the self aware a.i are the best antagonists in xcom.

@@AnotherFancyUser No, he's talking about Julian
my assasin role has shell-shocked in it..all it takes is one claymore from my reaper lol
Mine was grenade resistant :D
I always hunted her first. The most threatening of the three Chosen.
Rapid fire rangers with the arashi and bluescreen rounds *delete* sectopods
The most interesting of the Chosen as her dialogue occasionaly shows she seems to somewhat care for humanity, and she even hopes that you reclaim Earth from the Elders upon defeating her.
In addition if you kill on of her siblings first the Elder states she feels emptiness. Implying that she mourns or feels some sense of loss. Whereas the other two feel arrogance or satisfaction at the loss of their sister.
-*huff* *huff* you... have fought well XCOM... Mayby you will reclaim this world... For your OWN.......
Awesome. I really like the ancient, arabian(?) esque motif it employs.
Provoking Perch yeah, especially from the start till about 0:33
It's Japanese. That flute at the start was a Japanese flute, and the Assassin wields an arashi, katana and wakazashi.
Arashi? That's the long-barreled mega shotgun that the Assassin uses (and you do too later).
Dammit, I knew I spelt it wrong and by that time I couldn't find this comment again.
It seems more like Asian-japanese samurai or ninja esque.
i will have to agree with all the comments
the psi warlock, haven't met him in combat yet
the hunter, yeah he is definitely annoying
the assassin, yes is actually a huge threat, she is always invisible and you don't know where she will be
on top of that when she does get out of invisibility she delivers a devastating blow to her target, stunning and severely damaging them
plus having shadow-step makes your traps for her coming in completely useless, and after her strike, just like the templars melee strike, show gets an extra movement action and gets away into cover
despite being so powerful as she is, her personality, personally, even on the enemy team, she respects her opponent (us) and even gives compliments in such wise words, even tho she adds in the part where she is going to kill your soldiers and capture you. even respects and compliments our actions to helping our comrades. unlike the hunter, she has honor and respect in both combat and to our being itself.
if i had to lose to the enemy, specifically to one of the chosen, it would be the assassin.
My fav xcom soundtrack
Scariest looking in the trio imo. I like her design honestly(Not because of the katana). Her face looks intimidating and soundtrack is also my favorite and you know, she's the cover girl.
When I use mods, my ideal rival to the Assassin is Genji from Overwatch. Chosen Assassin vs Cyborg Ninja is just too awesome for words.
*OR SAMURAI JACK*
Ah yes little miss “Fuck your Overwatch now you have a sword in your intestines”
The only reason why she has a gun is in case she gets any abilities that can proc her to do a reaction shot
strek:tng has entered the chat.
This theme song was epic, made my TF2 Squad (yes I actually tried to make the mercs in XCOM) looks even cooler as they fought The Assassin.
Battle Logs on how Team Fortress 2 took down The Assassin:
- Soldier and Demo once blew her entire cover down and Heavy then mowed her down with Chain Shot. (If god had wanted you to live, he would not have created me!) (Ka-boom!) (Yatatatatatata- kaboom! kaboom!)
- Scout managed to outrun her as he chased her and took her down with a Storm Gun critical hit. (I'm runnin' circles around you!)
- Spy while concealed grappled in just behind The Assassin and took her down with a sword slash (Sorry to pop in unannounced)
My favorite ost! Sadly, she was the first one to go in my playthrough ;-;
Shawnlings like most things, there’s a mod for that that restrict chosen stronghold missions to later on in the story missions (ie you need to finish the ADVENT forge mission to locate the stronghold)
MinneIceCube As tempting as that sounds, I'd rather take the Chosen out before they get the opportunity to shoot down the Avenger.
'now you're FXXX'ED, XCOM!!!'
if you encounter with AVATAR PROJECT's ON COUNTDOWN, you will be really hate this xxit.
CRANASHANT Good news, that you probably know two years later, mission timers pause while Chosen are active.
When your soldiers call out Overwatch while this song is playing in the background is pretty epic; to rely on shotguns and melee to make a direct or critical hit and reveal her position with grenades or rocket launchers...
My assassin rolled vulnerable to explosions...
Hmmm, Reaper claymores :D
At around 10 seconds-ish, why do I think I hear an airhorn
I think the assassin's armour gets upgraded by late game. because the assassin in my game wears a weird plated face mask i havent seen yet lol
It ranks with the base Advent. When they get upgrades, she does too.
Assassin: *Appears*
The Reaper and Sharpshooter:
*_20 DAMAGE CLAYMORE_*
makes me wonder. what if. what if there is a system where you could spare the chosens and save them. or just dont kill them and finish the golden path mission. wouldnt it be col if we could just liberate the chosen from the grasp of the elders?

Assassin's honestly probably the hardest of the Chosen to face off against. You've gotta chase her out of wherever she goes and outside of a 1v1 that's really difficult.
Warlock meanwhile is almost completely useless if you give your units Mind Shields, and Hunter kinda just forces your Sniper to dash between corners of the building you have them on all mission.
TigerKirby215 She is the only chosen with guaranteed damage as their primary attack.
TigerKirby215 I got lucky with Assassin she was shell shocked and I had a reaper that marks her targets so as long as I had explosives and a reaper she was no threat

>Finally I found myself in a lost mission that also has the assassin appearing, she's now 50% resistant to melee, drains health, is vulnerable to explosives and the marauder that could kick her ass is elsewhere.

Just played War of the Chosen. I loved it.
Xcom people borrowed some mechanics from Darkest Dungeon and Shadow of Mordor.
And they executed it perfectly and so professionally.
easily the strongest chosen
I hear this with any of the damn chosen i swear. Game threw Made Whole down my throat and i am suffering
Loved her character, but hated fighting her to death.
I almost uninstalled WotC because of my first fight with her, I was thinking something like, "Oh my gosh, are all three of them going to be this hard!?"
Thankfully I found Hunter and Warlock easier to deal with, but, still.
Slash takes out half her health
Every time i hear this tune... I could ezpz see myself on Advent side... I mean.... Top1 wotc song
Hate her most of them!
I can understand Warlock blind zeal eveb admire it, Hunter is cool and straight psycho, but honor bitch please...

Me with hunter: Oh no hunter's here... Let's retreat out of line of site.
"I'm telling you, kids, it was a pretty rough fight. First we had to get through the building, filled with Advent soldiers and Aliens. Freaking viper almost got me there. But it went down eventually. Once more. Thanks to the Reaper and her claymores"
It would have been amazing if the chosen assassin actually deflected overwatch bullets with her sword, while she's running at you.
Kinda disappointed that the base AI never uses the shotgun she has
I've mostly only seen her ever use it if she gets that retaliation ability roll. That thing hurts.
Dance With The Chosen!
Pro tip, best counter for any chosen is reaper with superior extended magazine + banish, also shredder is good to have if the reaper can have it 👍🔫

Monster hunter vibe
Lets be honest the Warlock may as well be an old cripple when you have a mind-shielded ranger, and for The Hunter is vulnerable to out positioning from classes with high speed or a grappling hook. But every time I face the assassin it feels like fighting unbeatable opponent that you just barely beaten with your team after each was beaten to a pulp
She's the first Chosen I ever faced, and it was a legitimately terrifying experience. Also very exciting though.
Fighting her was scary, but I loved it. The mind-dude was annoying. The Hunter was probably the easiest to deal with.
I killed her in 4 turns all over her making the very dumb mistake of slashing my Templar which had a active parry up
I swear I’ve heard this in another game
