    I can hardly fathom the pain and anguish that Mamie Till endured in the wake of her son's murder. Witnessing her child so horribly disfigured by the violence inflicted upon Emmett is beyond comprehension.
    If one's eyes are truly windows to the soul, you can discern Emmett's genuine and sweet nature through his smile and the light his eyes radiated.
    The fact that the murderers were acquitted only serves to stoke my anger further.

    seeing those 2 accused men after they got off scott-free, made my blood boil. Emmett's mother was so brave and dignified, I don't know how she did it. I'd have been a mess. Poor Emmett. He must have been so afraid.

      @@tracya6702 but I think the only reason why they didn’t get charged was because of the 5th amendment (you can’t charge someone for the same crime twice and a person can’t testify against themselves).

    I remember in middle school finding that his case was in the Supreme Court again in 2012. He deserved justice and never got it even till this day and it’s a constant reminder of how much more we need to continue to fight for change. Truly heartbreaking.

      @@YernBelfus there are several changes that could be made such as the due process, bail, processing time frames, etc. From all the law classes I have taken there is a lot that can be improved for every type of person but there is a lack of change happening. There is a lot of research and articles I can link you if you would like as there is a vast ocean of change that can be implemented if you would like to read up on it. :)

Africans had long enslaved Europeans before the reverse happened. The Berbers, Moors, Barbary States, Egyptians, Nubians, Libyans, Moroccans, the list goes on for African people's that had long enslaved whites, raped their women, killed their children. The Reconquista was the first step to change that old status quo since the fall of the Roman Empire. Do we pay for the crimes of others or do we take account for ourselves an our actions?     The woman who lied and alleged that Emmett "offended" her is still alive living her best life. I just read the other day that the family of Emmett Till is trying to have the woman taken to trial for her involvement in what led to Emmett's brutal death. I'm all for it. Shine the light on this vile woman who has gone on to live a normal life.

    the mom was one of the bravest women alive, to endure all of this, cope with losing a child in a horrific way and stand by the coffin and look at what they did to him. thats one tough lady. scary world we live in

      @@DortonFarb I can’t imagine how that mother felt seeing her beloved child like that and the minutes of suffering he went through. I will never understand how humans can do that. My father was from Arkansas and I was born there but I grew up in Hawaii where my mother is from. When I moved to Georgia because my x husband was transferred there to another Air Force base, this was back in 1972 I was confused as to the prejudice I saw there and eventually came back to the West Coast. My mother was a teenager when she witnessed the bombing of Pearl Harbor but she would never allow us to be prejudice under any circumstances. I’ve been bullied in Hawaii for being white and after learning of my heritage background of Irish, Cherokee Indian and European Jewish I can see where it would be easy to hate because of treatment but I can’t do it. We must endeavor to persevere. In my current life I’m a victim of narcissistic abuse and I’m still confused over people who torture and abuse in order to make another human suffer. I’ve asked myself that if this is what God or Jesus wants me to learn ok so be it but there has to be peace at some point and I’m gona find it 👍

    What a story. I watched this movie today and I was in tears. So horribly sad that our society accepted this. And still accepts social injustice today. Nothing will ever change ... because people will be people and hate will always be a part of human nature. This story is so sad.       If I'm correct he said "bye baby" as he left the convenient store with his friends. And she (the lady at the counter) told her husband and he got his brother and they kidnapped him, beat him to death, and chained him to this circular thing and pushed him into the river and he was found 3 days later by 2 other children. My heart goes out to him. This was a horrible way to die and I am so f**ked off that the defendents pretty much got away with this because the justice system back then was absolute dog shit. And honestly hasn't changed that much. 😔

    If I had been his mother and had gazed on my son's battered face, I would have PTSD for the rest of my life. What an amazing woman she was.
    We didn't study this in school as I was in Kindergarten. Hopefully now it is, as we are almost 70 years removed from this horrific, senseless crime.

    i rember my mom said she went to the funeral and she saw emitts mom she said emitts in a better place now my mom tells me this story everytime something racial happens my mom tells me about this she passed away but on her will she wrote the place she would like to get buried and it was near emitts moms burial sight about 20 miles i go there every day and think i miss my mom its been five years and im still healing from my depression 😢

The Emmet Till Memorial has been vandalized countless times and replaced as recently as 2019, when they replaced it with a "bullet-proof" version. Racism has to be a mental illness in and of itself.     I’m so thankful that my 7th grade teacher brought this up during English class. Talking about Emmett Till’s modern lynching had nothing to do with our curriculum and everyone in class was damn near shook and silent when the story was brought up. Mr. Nak was not obliged by the Canadian school board to bring it up during lesson but I’m glad he did and that we learned about it.

Especially knowing that the professed murderers would be let go as usual. It was purposely done to she light as best as possible to the common horrors our people had to go through over simple words.     I watched the movie, I had so much difficulty to sleep. I cried to see how saddict and crual the humans can be . Poor little boy and poor mom. She was so courageous! May Emmet and his mom find peace together in heaven . God bless them.

      Yes indeed! I lost a granddaughter who was injured during labor and delivery. She was so beautiful. Her mother realized she was already gone and unhooked her life support. I so desperately wanted to see her before her funeral. But I couldn't. I just could not bring myself to have enough courage to see her like that. What I had already seen was bad enough just with machines and tubes and such. Even with no trauma to her body, I still could not go with my daughter to view her. How this mother did what she did, I'll never understand. Brave doesn't seem good enough a word to describe this woman.

      The Mother wanted the World to see EXACTLY what was done to her child. That's the same reason President JFK'S wife Jackie didn't change out of her Brain spattered, Blood soaked Pink suit. She stated she wanted the people to see what they had done to their President. JFK'S casket was left closed. Even after specialists reconstructed Kennedy's head and face... Jackie was horrified by the results. Said he looked like a wax museum statue, too waxy looking. Not like a real person. She INSISTED and won that battle. Both women were stronger than me. I wouldn't have survived the shock and heartache. Such strong women.

    The pictures are so important. You can read what happened but like they said - the side by side pics really just drive home the severity and the horror. More than 65 years later and the pictures, in my opinion, have not lost their effect and do not lose it even after seeing them for the tenth time. RIP Emmett

    It angers me that the woman who accused Emmett in 1955 has now recanted her lie decades later and is still free to walk amongst us. It also angers me that a warrant was drawn up for her arrest in 1955 but was not served due to their reasons, she had kids to care for. I will never forget, never.
