My mother attended the funeral. She had nightmares for awhile after that. So sad what hate can do. His mother was so brave to do what she did during that era.

I can hardly fathom the pain and anguish that Mamie Till endured in the wake of her son's murder. Witnessing her child so horribly disfigured by the violence inflicted upon Emmett is beyond comprehension.
If one's eyes are truly windows to the soul, you can discern Emmett's genuine and sweet nature through his smile and the light his eyes radiated.
The fact that the murderers were acquitted only serves to stoke my anger further.
I just watched the movie "Till" It made me cry. Rest In Peace Emmett and his mama, Mammie too. Now they are together again.
His mother was such a strong woman! You can tell the love she had for her son. Rest easy Emmett!

@@tracya6702 but I think the only reason why they didn’t get charged was because of the 5th amendment (you can’t charge someone for the same crime twice and a person can’t testify against themselves).
I remember in middle school finding that his case was in the Supreme Court again in 2012. He deserved justice and never got it even till this day and it’s a constant reminder of how much more we need to continue to fight for change. Truly heartbreaking.

@@YernBelfus there are several changes that could be made such as the due process, bail, processing time frames, etc. From all the law classes I have taken there is a lot that can be improved for every type of person but there is a lack of change happening. There is a lot of research and articles I can link you if you would like as there is a vast ocean of change that can be implemented if you would like to read up on it. :)

No parent should have to endure losing a child, but Emmett Till's mother endured his death, hatred, lack of sympathy, and no justice.

The woman who lied and alleged that Emmett "offended" her is still alive living her best life. I just read the other day that the family of Emmett Till is trying to have the woman taken to trial for her involvement in what led to Emmett's brutal death. I'm all for it. Shine the light on this vile woman who has gone on to live a normal life.

@@DortonFarb I can’t imagine how that mother felt seeing her beloved child like that and the minutes of suffering he went through. I will never understand how humans can do that. My father was from Arkansas and I was born there but I grew up in Hawaii where my mother is from. When I moved to Georgia because my x husband was transferred there to another Air Force base, this was back in 1972 I was confused as to the prejudice I saw there and eventually came back to the West Coast. My mother was a teenager when she witnessed the bombing of Pearl Harbor but she would never allow us to be prejudice under any circumstances. I’ve been bullied in Hawaii for being white and after learning of my heritage background of Irish, Cherokee Indian and European Jewish I can see where it would be easy to hate because of treatment but I can’t do it. We must endeavor to persevere. In my current life I’m a victim of narcissistic abuse and I’m still confused over people who torture and abuse in order to make another human suffer. I’ve asked myself that if this is what God or Jesus wants me to learn ok so be it but there has to be peace at some point and I’m gona find it 👍

What a story. I watched this movie today and I was in tears. So horribly sad that our society accepted this. And still accepts social injustice today. Nothing will ever change ... because people will be people and hate will always be a part of human nature. This story is so sad. If I'm correct he said "bye baby" as he left the convenient store with his friends. And she (the lady at the counter) told her husband and he got his brother and they kidnapped him, beat him to death, and chained him to this circular thing and pushed him into the river and he was found 3 days later by 2 other children. My heart goes out to him. This was a horrible way to die and I am so f**ked off that the defendents pretty much got away with this because the justice system back then was absolute dog shit. And honestly hasn't changed that much. 😔

i rember my mom said she went to the funeral and she saw emitts mom she said emitts in a better place now my mom tells me this story everytime something racial happens my mom tells me about this she passed away but on her will she wrote the place she would like to get buried and it was near emitts moms burial sight about 20 miles i go there every day and think i miss my mom its been five years and im still healing from my depression 😢

Carolyn Bryant has admitted that she lied about Emmett Till whistling at her. She isn’t being charged because of her age/that she’s elderly. What are the prosecutors doing? She committed a crime and should be charged and jailed no matter how old she is now. Makes my blood boil.
So I just did the research and she actually never admitted that, it was printed in a book about her, but never proven. And the FBI could never charge her because they never had proof she recanted her statement.
As an afterthought, I BET she never thought that her brother-in- law, IN PARTICULAR would murder him!!! He was a pig!!!

Absolutely unfathomable. We will never know the depth of pain he endured physically, nor his mother emotionally 💔 sadly, the inexplicable hatred still exists. The Emmet Till Memorial has been vandalized countless times and replaced as recently as 2019, when they replaced it with a "bullet-proof" version. Racism has to be a mental illness in and of itself. Senseless and mind boggling.
Thinking about the fear and pain he suffered is more than I can handle. It just makes me sick. The unbelievable pain his mother suffered in losing him and in such a manner is just more than my mind can imagine.

I’m so thankful that my 7th grade teacher brought this up during English class. Talking about Emmett Till’s modern lynching had nothing to do with our curriculum and everyone in class was damn near shook and silent when the story was brought up. Mr. Nak was not obliged by the Canadian school board to bring it up during lesson but I’m glad he did and that we learned about it.

One of the most chilling thing is seeing his killers sitting in the courtroom with their arms around their wives and children. They’re so indifferent, they’re on trial for one of the most appalling things imaginable and they’re sitting there like they’re sitting on a park bench.
Because that’s how they normalize the devaluing of black lives and we still do that today

He was tough as they were. He didn’t think they had the guts to kill him”. Exactly what he said. So yeah basically they were saying how Emmett thought the men were “bluffing” and wouldn’t actually kill him.

There are so many little details about this story. Emmett's father, Louis Till, died in Europe while in the Army in 1945.
The man in that picture was Genie (Gene) Mobley, Mamie's 4th husband.
I’ve had to learn about this case so many times in school and it breaks my heart every time. I also recently found that the woman had supposedly lied about what happened and that he had not done anything to her.
Ms Till handled this senseless uncalled for death of her child with bravery. To know this baby had to go through so much violence at a young age and his mother had to bury her child and see him like that as she say goodbye is heartbreaking ❤️🩹

Yes indeed! I lost a granddaughter who was injured during labor and delivery. She was so beautiful. Her mother realized she was already gone and unhooked her life support. I so desperately wanted to see her before her funeral. But I couldn't. I just could not bring myself to have enough courage to see her like that. What I had already seen was bad enough just with machines and tubes and such. Even with no trauma to her body, I still could not go with my daughter to view her. How this mother did what she did, I'll never understand. Brave doesn't seem good enough a word to describe this woman.

The pictures are so important. You can read what happened but like they said - the side by side pics really just drive home the severity and the horror. More than 65 years later and the pictures, in my opinion, have not lost their effect and do not lose it even after seeing them for the tenth time. RIP Emmett
