I'm hoping you don't mind answering a bunch of questions. My daughter is considering this school. Is on campus housing guaranteed for all undergrads? How many people are in each dorm room, do they stuff 4 people in a room? Is laundry free? How large is the campus, can you walk the whole thing or does it take shuttles to get to some classes? How hard is it to get classes and are advisers available or is it hard to get their time? How safe is the town? Do you love it there? Thank you!!
TheStarLuva Hello! We are excited to hear that your daughter is considering SUNY Oneonta. On campus housing is guaranteed for all four years. For freshman residence halls, there are two people In one room. Upperclassman housing includes quads and suites. Quad-style house four students. It includes two double rooms (two people in each room for a total of four in one space) that are adjoined by a common room. Suite- style rooms have six people in one space. There are 3 double style rooms (two people in each room for a total of six) with a larger common room and a bathroom. Laundry is completely free for students! It is included in the cost of attendance, so there’s no need for quarters. All students need is their own laundry supplies! From a student perspective, Oneonta’s campus is large but pretty compact and very walkable. Students usually have 10 to 15 minutes to get to class if they are back to back. This is more than enough time! I usually have time to stop for coffee in between classes with plenty of time to spare. When I lived the freshman halls, I was located at the bottom of the hill. But it only took me ten minutes to reach the top of campus! There is a bus that goes around campus that students can utilize as a shuttle. I did this quite a lot, especially when it was colder outside! The bus is free for students with their student ID. I’ve always had a great experience getting into the classes I needed to. This year, incoming freshmen completed an online advisement form and their schedules were automatically generated for them. They were then able to rework their schedule once they came for orientation. There are many resources on campus that students can utilize. We have an Office for Academic Advisement and they help guide students with any academic or schedule related questions/issues. When I switched majors my freshman year, Academic Advisement was very helpful and helped me organize my class schedule for the following three years. Both town and campus are extremely safe. As a female student I feel completely comfortable wherever I go in Oneonta! We have the University Police Department and they operate 24/7, 365 days a year. One of the things that I love about Oneonta their commitment to the community and student safety. I hope this helps and I answered all of your questions! I truly love it here.
