Curb Your Enthusiasm season 11, episode 4 recap Harrelson is the obvious guest star, another potential recruit for a character in Young Larry, but here he’s an uber-woke Academy Award-winning interspecies equality enthusiast who thinks having cream in one’s coffee perpetuates a cycle of terrible violence - a viewpoint that forces a desperate Larry to lie about having a cow named Jessie, whom Woody would like to meet before he leaves town. But where to find a cow? As it turns out, quite by accident. The accident involves Larry spilling his coffee on Joe (Marc Menchaca), a surprisingly reasonable Klansman who nonetheless can’t attend his upcoming hate rallies with coffee stains on his robes. Curb is uniquely positioned to mock this kind of thing, it seems. I thought about it, and I couldn’t come up with a single other comedy that could get away with having its protagonist run around doing favors for someone in the KKK. Of course, everyone else, from the Jewish dry cleaner to Susie, thinks Larry is nuts. But he’s adamant about the robes being his responsibility now. The whole thing works because Larry and his neuroses are being ridiculed. The ridiculousness of Joe’s extremism is treated as self-evident. Curb isn’t preaching to us about racism being wrong - it expects us to know that already. In the same way, Woody Harrelson making a ridiculous speech at the Academy Awards is clearly poking fun at all the celebrities who have done so in recent years, without coming down against the ideology. “The Watermelon” isn’t about bigotry. The whole thing’s absurd, but it gives Cuoco an excuse to have arguments with them both, which you can tell is the point. Out of spite she also hurts Larry’s eyes, which leads to him crashing into the back of another Mary Ferguson, which allows for the payoff to the watermelon subplot. For a show built on so many inane encounters, it’s often amazing how cleverly everything gets tied together by the end. And how many times serious actors can say “Pirate’s Booty” with a straight face. ................... Larry returns to the eye doctor, only for Heidi to yell at him for telling Freddy about her dropping the Pirate’s Booty on the floor. In an angry fit, she pushes the eye equipment into Larry’s face, giving him two black eyes. His impaired vision results in a traffic incident with a Black woman, whose name turns out to be Mary Ferguson - meaning Leon has a new companion to travel with him to Asia. But when Larry brings Mary to his house to meet Leon, she walks in on him eating watermelon with the other Black man from the grocery store earlier. She abruptly leaves, and Larry asks Leon, “Who told you to have a watermelon orgy?” “You did, Larry,” Leon correctly answers. The Klansman shows up to the rally in the outfit Susie made for him, only to discover there’s a Star of David embroidered on the back. His fellow Klansmen proceed to beat him up. Afterwards, he tracks down Larry at his house and threatens to beat him up. Larry grabs the shofar that the rabbi gave him as a gift and blows it into the sky. The Klansman then runs for the hills, as this week’s punchline puts a nice bow on this episode’s religious themes.
Larry forgot about the accident and was focused on her being a “Mary Ferguson”. Mary was curious as to why Larry was so excited about that, but overlooked that when he offered her the trip to Asia. Larry then invited her to his house to meet Leon, so in her head it’s like “cool can’t wait to meet him”. So when she walked into the kitchen and finally saw Leon, she saw he was black and was eating watermelon with another black guy. I’m assuming she thought there was racist intent, or some kind of racist thing behind Larry getting all excited to offer her the trip and inviting her to his house to meet Leon. Everyone eats watermelon but there is a stereotype of black folks liking watermelon and some racist folks use that to make racist comments or jokes.
"Get in on this sweet meat" is one of the best lines of this season

Larry forgot about the accident and was focused on her being a “Mary Ferguson”.
Mary was curious as to why Larry was so excited about that, but overlooked that when he offered her the trip to Asia.
Larry then invited her to his house to meet Leon, so in her head it’s like “cool can’t wait to meet him”. So when she walked into the kitchen and finally saw Leon, she saw he was black and was eating watermelon with another black guy.
I’m assuming she thought there was racist intent, or some kind of racist thing behind Larry getting all excited to offer her the trip and inviting her to his house to meet Leon.
Everyone eats watermelon but there is a stereotype of black folks liking watermelon and some racist folks use that to make racist comments or jokes.
