“Walking in the Air" is a song written by Howard Blake for the 1982 animated film The Snowman based on Raymond Briggs' 1978 children's book of the same name.
This is from End of an Era concert where Dark Chest of Wonders were the opener song.
Fucking finally! One of the best classic Nightwish songs. Next should be the Kinslayer from the same concert.
I don't know if I would say FINALLY. But I'm glad he's getting around to these classic Nightwish songs, I absolutely adore these, and these songs is what made me fall in love with the band in the first place.

THIS. Beauty of the Beast (OF, not and) is such an underappreciated song, and it's a shame that there aren't really any good quality versions on TH-cam besides the album version.
@@CatspawAdventures Honestly, Beauty of the Beast is what I often consider (along with The Pharaoh Sails to Orion) as the prototype to Nightwish's epics, and I often consider BotB as the forgotten member of the epics. It's honestly so good, showcases Tarja using contemporary voice for once, and the wonderful blend of Marko and Tarja's dynamics. It's still surprises me whenever I remember Century Child was the first album Marko was in, and then to remember Marko wasn't even an original member in the first place XD
I hope you'd check out Beauty OF the Beast at some point! It's one of their older 'epic' songs that deserves to be right up there with the big 3 imo. But since there's no proper live version, it doesn't get nearly enough love.

Perhaps a song that Nightwish has covered? We all know that Tuomas is an amazing composer/song writer, but it would be interesting to see how he'd go about arranging a song written by someone else. I'd recommend Over the Hills and Far Away (Gary Moore) , The Phantom of the Opera (Andrew Lloyd Webber), High Hopes (Pink Floyd), or The Heart Asks Pleasure First (Michael Nyman).

Great review! I agree with you on the keyboard solo section, but I would recommend you to check out this section on the album version where he uses a super awesome bells sound, which suits the song far better in my opinion.

Definitely recommend reacting to Slow, Love, Slow! It’s a very different feel from a lot of Nightwish songs and really showcases Anette’s strengths.

Marko's "heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell" is my favourite part, gives me goosebumps everytime, and the volume in the car is always as loud as possible me screaming with him ^^
One of my most favorite Nightwish songs ever made ever in the history of EVER...
This was the song that I fist heard from Nightwish, and the rest is history!
This is one example of NW songs where I much prefer the studio version to the live. I don't know if it's the way this concert is mixed or if they changed something for this song, but on the album the part with the keyboard solo feels more... full (?? I'm not sure how to say this, I'm not a musician ??). And so the effect is less weird to the ear and more satisfying. I'm glad you're doing older songs too! THE single most underrated song Nightwish have. Straight up epic masterpiece that somehow gets overlooked by near enough everyone. I'm sure Chase will get to it though. Also probably good to point out it's Beauty OF the Beast as Nightwish also have a Beauty and the Beast haha
In another message I suggested the performance of "The phantom of the opera", recorded on the DVD End of an era. It is really iconic. However, the idea occurred to me to also suggest the performance of "Ghost love score" recorded on the DVD "End of an era". The original version of "Ghost love score" is quite different from the one you saw with Floor. As you like to explore the music as a whole, making observations about the instruments, the harmony, the rhythm etc., I think you will really like the original version. In the version with Tarja, the choirs, the orchestra and the presence of backing vocals recorded by Tarja are much stronger. "Swanheart" IS the song that made me fall in love with them. I've listened to it a couple of years after the release of the album and, since then, they caught me! But nothing can beat "Angels Fall First" IMO xD. Unfortunately, there is no video of "Angels Fall First", just audio :(.

Well, here I go to write my third comment hahaha I'm remembering the things in installments 😅 In addition to "The Phantom of the Opera" and "Ghost love score", both from the DVD "End of an era", I would like to reinforce my request done in the last Nightwish video. Please, react the song "Beauty of the beast". This song is from the album "Century Child" and is as iconic as "Ghost love score". Many of the new fans don't know "Beauty of the beast", as this song was never sung by Floor, but only by Tarja. The music is iconic and the lyrics are poetic. I would like to see you react to creek mary's blood (official music video) that song hits me hard now that I understand the story it tells. When I first heard it in my teen years I just thought it was pretty and now 15 years later hearing it again is like wow!
After some time im here again asking for a reaction for Creek Mary's Blood. Yes, it have some controversy about John two-hawks and the native american part of the song, but is a beautiful song nonetheless and i think is alongside with Phantom of the Opera the pinacle of Tarja's performances with NW.
Planet Hell was the 2nd song in the set. Dark Chest of Wonders was an opener.
Loved hearing and seeing Jukka drumming. He reminds me of a leopard, barely leashed with primal energy, literally chomping at the music! Kai's style is as good, just so different, a perfectly controlled, effortlessly powerful beast beating the drums at super speed. Both so, so good, great to watch, and hear, how they manage Tuomas's masterpieces. Rest of song also magical, just, as a UK-based ginger says, Nightwish doing Nightwish things. Love,love song and reaction.

So nice duet with Marco and Tarja including great instrumentals. Do the extreme old and first era songs like "Nightwish".
Tuomas does seem to pick some really synthy samples when he does solos live, as opposed to how they are on the album. I suspect it's to stand out from the backing track, like "Nono, I am here, actually playing this." When touring with Annette, he actually played bits from "Stargazers" and "Gethsemane" as the solo here, easter egging songs that Annette wasn't going to sing.

The album version is different in that Tuomas bit you didn't love so much, think you should give it a try. About Tarja, if you really want to understand what makes her so special and her role in NW history and evolving you should go way back, check out Wishmaster, Oceanborn and Century Child specially. From Century Child on foward she changed her way of singing significantly, on Tuomas's demand. Maybe because he already knew she would be leaving at some point and realized that it would be hard to find a replacement for what she had done until then. I personally would suggest Kinslayer (about the Columbine massacre, make sure you pay attention to the lyrics), Fantasmic, Gethsemane (there's a live video from 1999, they're all babies), and my all time favorite NW song: Beauty of the Beast (studio version, with lyrics).

The songs of Nigtwish with tarja give me a physical effect, first I feel as if electricity is running through my spine, and then when tarja reaches the highest notes and holds them up, I feel that the spinal cord is disconnected at the height of shoulders for a fraction of a second. Is Amazing. I think you might be interested in listening to Tuomas sing, he does it in this video, th-cam.com/video/Z4A5HwMOfW8/w-d-xo.html there is also a live recording of the band's first concert in a club, but that version only has audio.

Probably one of my top 5 favorite NW songs. This was the second song of their set. Dark Chest of Wonders was first.
Kai on the drums is fantastic. But there is just something special on songs when Jukka comes up, as here. I've been listening to Nightwish for about 6-7 months now. I have elevated them to the level of Glorious to listen to. It's more than fun, interesting or wonderful, it is just glorious.
Tuomas' showcase solo is entirely different from album version as someone noted, its more fantasy on the album, more space opera here.

I adore this song. I loved seeing you pick out all the amazing little parts that I hadn't even noticed before. It has actually made the song more special to me.
As for songs to listen to, I really want you to listen to End of All Hope. Unfortunately, because of how the songs are constructed is has to be listened to as "Bless the Child", "End of All Hope", "Dead to the World" in one sitting (in that order) because they all flow into each other perfectly on the album as if they are one large song. they're my and my sister's absolute favorite trio of Nightwish songs and I think you'd really enjoy them. because they all contrast in tone yet fit together as a puzzle at the same time.

For some reason Tuomas uses different sounds when he plays solos live and almost every time I much prefer the sound he uses on the album. Aside from that though, performance is obviously top tier!

Hey, I like the way you commentate on these songs. I think a band you should definitely check out is Tallah. They have some crazy stuff, and the vocalist has some serious versatility. Good examples would be songs like Overconfidence or No One Should Read This.
