- IBCX 222 on the Youngstown & Southeastern Railroad leaves Heselton yard in Youngstown Ohio and heads south through Boardman Ohio on their way to North Lima. Filmed 10/20/22

No wonder these guys are creeping along. Condition of those rails & ties are very bad. Great video. That whole line needs a complete overhaul.

222 is one of the last surviving Illinois Central GP9s. These were the folks that brought us the Paducah GP10, and, as such, most of their GP9s were heavily modified. 222 is one of only three that I'm aware of that survive roughly unmodified out of the several hundred examples the IC rostered. It even has three of its "eyelids" over the class lights; a classic IC feature!
so the 222 is a GP9?

@@25mfd The last "phase" of GP9 production used two 48" fans in place of the earlier four 36" fans. 222 is a late-model GP9. Dynamic brake-equipped locomotives would have another 48" fan over the brake blister in the middle of the hood, but the Illinois Central didn't buy the dynamic brake option on their GP9s.
Great video. Bad track, low speed, weathered GP9. Lots of trash on this one. What's in the closed boxcars? Nice to see those new ties along the right-of-way. It needs them.
The boxcars are used to haul scrap paper from North Lima to Niagara Falls.

A shoestring railroad. The engines need paint and the track is in dismal shape.
Looks like a daily adventure to not derail.
Between the slow speed the older engines and the commodity being handled it's like the Uncle Fester and Western. The fences made out of old corrugated pipe anduto fenders as theast buildings that have seen better days. For starters the better part of a forest of railroad ties to be inserted. Then @14:00 the crew got the jostle left and jostle right. That section of trackage between the two streets makes one think of an old Interurban line and with the autumn colors made for a more impressive look at the Shortline

The have been working on part of line in boardman
State of Ohio probably bought those ties for the shortline. That's kinda how things work in that world.
@@BlackMan614 a lot of the main line fore the shortline has been replaced with new ties however the interchange points ties are still old and some are broken.

I've actually seen worse at least they plan on new ties thats a good beginning.
Guage rods occasional new ties. Gravel. Thats all folks.

well the usa is great at fixing up other counties crap, butt when it comes home we are forgotting and its our tax dollars
