"autistic children become more social when they have a fever" 3:59 You know what also happens when you have a fever? You get to stay home where you don't have to mask. Correlation does not always equal causation.
Always very happy to see people, especially fellow autistic people, extend their kindness and empathy to also include non human animals! Also, thank you so much for debunking bad science (also if the scientists are plant-based)!
Nutrition (and even Dr Greger) were my special interest at one point as is autism. Can't wait for this crossover! I'm vegan and as healthy as it can be I never have noticed any "curing" of my autistic side xD
My thoughts: 1. After following Dr. Greger's work for many years, calling him a "neurotypical doctor" might be a stretch. I mean, if he's not the stereotypical autistic scientist, I don't know who is. 😅 Maybe he will find out some day. 2. I hate to see him spread these bogus ideas. How many times do I have to find out that people I look up to have the most ridiculous ideas about autism (and by extention, about me). 3. He's known to primarily base everything on what he finds in the scientific literature and, as we know, the literature is still full of these wrong assumptions. So, to some extend I can see how he would be influenced by these ideas. But there's also a lot of science with a better approach and to simply ignore that is inexcusable. 4. I would love for you guys to get together and have a discussion. 5. If broccoli would "cure" autism, I surely wouldn't be still autistic. 🤣
I’d reconsider #3, as Dr. Greger egregiously cherry picks to find the studies that support his beliefs while ignoring those that do not. He also is guilty of overstating evidence, as in (one example) he’ll say something “does” cause x, when the study says it “may” cause x, which is a big difference. He also mixes increased risk with increased incidence. I could go on, but will spare you!
@@katereed4764 I don't think our statements exclude each other. What I wanted to get at is that he is working with a huge body of literature that is already misrepresenting reality in a lot of cases, since the research on autism has been incredibly bad until relatively recently (assuming autism is a disease etc.). I see that as part of the problem at least. And yes, on top of that it seems like he's cherry picking as there definitely is better research out there that would be hard to overlook for someone like him.
I don't even need to watch the video to know that guy is a bit too far in the salad dressing. My safe food was broccoli as a child. It's all wanted to eat for 5-6 years. The texture is just soo good. Still autistic lol Still going to watch it... I'm curious.
It's such a cliche that autistic people will only eat chicken nuggets and spaghetti. I know several who have loved veggies and fruits since early childhood. Many are vegan now (I'm not tho). My safe food is whole-grain bread, nuggets make me vomit 😅
The broccoli dish is the only thing I find palatable in Nando’s, but I refuse to pay £6.99 for 5 sticks of broccoli, so I never go there and everyone thinks I’m weird.
I've always loved broccoli (though not as much as runner beans - what I asked for as my birthday meal as a young child was runner beans, gravy, and prunes). I also eat lots of other cruciferous veg. Still not "cured" though - which basically means I remain myself, so I'm glad of that.
I love your debunking videos! I am a vegan and have been for 25 years. Just like a previous comment, I am still Autistic AF! Vegan diet made my body feel better which is great! Keep up the good work, just love your channel!
The clear answer even before watching: No. It does not cure Autism. Nevertheless, I am happier than ever with my vegan food and life - which helps my relationship to food tremendeously.
Yep, that would make literally no sense when they grouped just about everybody with developmental conditions not otherwise specified as being autistic. At absolute best, this could work for one type or some portion of the traits, but even that is likely a stretch as cruciferous vegetables are commonly on the list of foods that pediatricians recommend children eat.
It’s insane how little research focuses on autistic adults who can report their lived experiences (and you could do it blind by putting whatever food you want to test in a capsule or something). I just saw a video by creative autistic on how menopause worsens neurodivergence and vice versa, but there’s hardly any research on this still. It’s likely the same for lots of hormonal changes because they affect neurotransmitters etcetera. I’m sure having a poor diet and unhealthy microbiom would not help with sensory sensitivity, even if only because they affect stress levels in anyone, but having less severe symptoms doesn’t change your brain or nervous system type of course. It’s more likely that we need more computational powers than NT’s to function/mask sufficiently, and therefore health is extra adamant for us..
Checklist for meals (daily dozen), special interest in health (nutritionfacts), meticulous schedule for public engagements, hyperfocus on the details, sense of justice (humane society involvement / pcrm)..... The man is a genius, and has given me so much confidence and knowledge in navigating life as a vegan. There's one place he's not looked for autism though..... until now. Hopefully he'll update the literature accordingly, as he's quite good at correcting things. Nice video, as always, and I still think Dr. Greger is an amazing human, but can't agree with autism being described as a disease!
Someone with coeliac disease here - a GF diet is of course, not only beneficial to us, but kinda a requirement for living. ;) (Speaking as someone that was on death’s door after a couple of decades of living with it without being diagnosed). I will say though, that after I was diagnosed coeliac at 20, I went from a substance abusing teen, barely capable of stacking shelves in Tesco who dropped out of school at 12, to someone that was awarded the student of the year at my local tech college and went on to get my Bsc honours and work at CERN. So, gluten did a crazy job of messing with my brain it seems and after, I felt like a different person with the memories of someone else in my head. Of course, this was because I am a coeliac and has nothing to do with autism.
@ yes, it was incredible and all more by luck than design. No cure for coeliac unfortunately, just abstinence from gluten - that was almost 40 years ago so things have improved a lot in dietary options and in diagnostics these days.
I have a gluten intolerance (but not celiac), and I have definitely noticed that eating gluten causes brain fog, mood swings, and anxiety in me, in addition to GI upset. However, going gluten free did *not* "cure" my AuDHD, and sometimes the weirdness in GF products seems to aggravate my food sensory sensitivities.
@ yes, brain fog is a thing for sure, besides all the other physical nastiness that gluten can cause. I read once upon a time that gluten intolerance was just latent coeliac disease which could emerge at any time - many people in their middle to senior years develop coeliac.
I was in a children's home where they experimented with removing milk from my diet. To see if it would make me behave "normally". It stopped me from farting as much, Im grateful for that I guess.
This subject can be really hard to explain to people, because if you’re one if we lucky Autists that also have co-occurring food intolerances, cutting those out can make a huge difference. So can eating enough fibre, anti-oxidants, and nutrients in general. Unfortunately that can make it appear as if diet is “curing” Autism. 😕 But all that’s happening is that by eliminating a problem food or eating clean, you are making yourself feel a little better in a physical sense, and when you feel better in yourself you’re more equipped to cope with the struggles of being Autistic in a Neurotypical world. I mean, who *doesn’t* feel more able to deal with life after a good night’s sleep, or when your headaches go away?
I have celiac as well as being autistic. It took 2 weeks to notice the difference to my physical well being on a gluten-free diet. 6 weeks should be more than plenty of time to assess effects of dietary changes.
As an autistic vegan, I am SO SICK of the diet aspect of veganism being touted in ableist ways. PETA tried claiming that dairy causes autism a while back ... Like no, theres 100 other reasons to hate dairy, we don't need to spread harmful misinfo which ultimately harms both autistic people and the vegan movement. Ughh!!
12:40 As someone who is gluten intolerant, the "there's one option and it's pretty mid" feels like some of my dining experiences. I've looked at a could menus and my options were one of two salads, so long as the staff remember to leave to croutons off like I asked
Great video @Autistic_AF! I relate to the sadness and frustration you feel on this topic. I’m autistic with coeliac disease and eat a strict gluten free diet, I’ve also alternated between being vegetarian and vegan (for environmental benefits and against cruelty to animals) most of my life. No impact on my autism! Unless counting fewer hypothetical meltdowns and shutdowns that would’ve likely occurred due to illness (and impending death) caused by eating gluten😂
You'd have thought this idea was pretty easy to refute! Unless... Could the probably already higher than average broccoli intake of many autistics be 'keeping a lid' on something? Maybe, without broccoli, we turn mega autistic!
Thirty years ago I loved broccoli so much that I ate enough to give myself a sensitivity to it…these days, if I eat anything containing the merest hint of broccoli (even other vegetables that have been cooked along with the broccoli, in the same pot), i immediately swell with the most painful GI distress to look like someone who is eight months pregnant. Sigh, guess I’m stuck with my autism!😂
Watching this was revealing. If an MD and nutrition expert like Dr. Greger can put out something so biased and vague, and just plain bullshit, I can have a great deal more tolerance for ordinary people who have heard something about autism and then make all kinds of assumptions. But I wish they could just do as I do, and readily admit that they don't know much about that particular subject.
A regular non-specialist in nutrition gets a shockingly small amount of education on nutrition. And even those that do specialize are somewhat stymied by a lack of quality research that goes beyond generalizations like eat from most categories of food in moderation and try to exercise. The kind of studies that it would take to settle quickly are mostly barred due to changes since WWII in terms of how research is permitted to be conducted.
Has anyone considered all of the GI issues autistic people can struggle with and how the physical discomfort from things could make brain processes more difficult, and how some people removing or adding things that would improve that discomfort? Not a blanket "treatment" but something that should be addressed on a singular basis, you know to address individual needs!
9:49 - my cat's treat logic 😹 He's like a little alchemist manifesting treats 😆 "It worked once, so I *should* get a treat if I repeat the exact series of events!" Sending love and autism! ❤ 🤣
Between lifelong GI issues and misdiagnosis I know that diet DOES NOT TOUCH autism in any way - well I can only report my experience. Just like for absolutely anyone you can feel better eating in a way that works for you. I was my own RCT of 1. I used diet and lifestyle for one serious mental diagnosis which I didn't know I didn't have. Diet and lifestyle helped me get off and heal from taking meds that made my mental health much worse. These meds gave me severe anxiety, permanent vision damage, chattering teeth and sever mood instability with all the trouble that went with it. This hurt my family and my work life. I did get much better using diet but I was still experiencing the same quirkiness I have my whole life. I sought answers which came back with the proper diagnosis of autism. Now with this new understanding, everything in my life makes sense for the first time. Every aspect of life is improving. I am finally feeling like what I now know is simply my autistic self.
I tried being vegan/vegetarian for a while in my teens. I did it with support of people who were already vegan and was well on my way to becoming a chef, so knew what I was doing. Ended up in the hospital due to my body lacking the ability to use plant nutrition properly. I was just as autistic before I started as I was during and after. Also, broccoli soup was one of my childhood safe foods, along with spinach soup. As an adult chef, I have worked a bit with autistic kids and food. Food chaining, comfort/safe foods, ingredient awareness etc. Always fun.
Really appreciate you making these videos though it is a lot of work. You contradict the false information without giving it more traffic, which is a really good approach. Also, the videos are really well made and I always enjoy watching. Keep up the good work (if you have the energy)!
I'm autistic, late diagnosed but diagnosed as ASD level 1, so "high functioning". I agree that autism is both environmental and genetic. I was born during the big rubella epidemic in the 1960's (64/65) and thus was born with CRS (congenital rubella syndrome), and in my research, also discovered both parents were over 30, Mom 33 at the time, Dad was 37 then, and likely some autism may be found in the family on one or both sides. I DO wonder on 2 cousins on my Dad's side that might have been autistic, they never married, let alone moved out of the house. Both dead now but have wondered since my diagnosis in 2022 at 57. Signs were there but not recognized until about 18 years or so ago by a good long time friend and at least one older sibling. I live independently in a modest house I bought and while work has been hit or miss, I was able to make this happen 8 years ago while in long term employ that ended a couple of years after I had moved into said home. This came as no thanks to Covid 19. I have been skeptical of many of the doctors online like Dr Gandy whom says not to eat certain foods like tomatoes (yum) as it hurts gut health. Research on him reveals him to be a quack, what I had thought and there are many others out there, yet many typical folks fall for these all the time. I need to get back on the wagon as far as the Mediterranean diet is concerned, not for autism, but to increase fiber intake for general health. Also need to drink more water too. Anyway, all interesting and what we know about autism today only came about in the past oh, 30 years or less.
That's a pretty safe bet. Certain things like sugar in particular seem to make it harder to regulate. As to what supplements do and don't help, that seems to be in need of more research.
Oh man, this one is disappointing. I really like Dr Greger and like you, I've got his book How not to die! The fact that he calls it a disease so many times is bad enough without the other things you covered. 😞
After decades of special interests in nutrition from farming and soils to supplemtation to food prep, it is very true that what you eat absolutely affects how you live and feel. Diminishing inflammation helps so many things. THAT SAID, a genetic trait cannot be changed through diet. It took thousands and more years to become a genetic trait and, thus, cannot be erased through diet. Improved symptoms, sure. Less co-morbidities? Likely. No more being an Autistic? Hell naw!
Wild that what he's saying implies that none of us autistics are eating broccoli.... my last two meal plates wildly disagree with that... I'm also vegan, and have been plant-based for many years and I'm still autistic....... and I'm pretty sick of these quacks telling me I'm sick.
There are a few studies on level 2-3 autistic children and the "symptoms" were very bad defined before sulphorafane and after taking it. I (level 1) took it for some months and noticed nothing at all. Maybe they should count on us to make studies.
🥦I always liked broccoli... now I am hungry. But I wonder if the true epidemic is mayhaps the outbreak in nonsense conspiracy theories about where autism comes from and what cures it. Mayhaps we try 500$ glass pyramids next? Thank you for debunking it, though. It is exhausting but important work. I am sending love, vibes and autism your way.
Literally my safe foods include cheese broccoli and buttery spinach. What is that fool on about? I'm not less autistic when I have a fever either, just too worn out to be as extreme
I will share some more autism for the algorithm! 1) Conjoined twins, and other rare forms of twins, are super interesting! 2) Perinatal hospice is sad, but definitely something more people should know about! 3) Life on Earth probably started around hot water vents on the ocean floor! So cool! 😎 Just offering a few more of my SPINs over the years! ☺️
@@Autistic_AF @misspat7555 it is cool that it’s warm…😂 😅 🙄 a logic debate is percolating (brewing?) or brain is on the way to short circuiting love this😅excitement. so… what will the conclusion be? can really warm be 😎cool?!
A lot of people seem to think of children as fashion accessories. They want the perfect designer family and seem to think that if their kids misbehave in someway, society will be sneering and laughing at them for having these kids. It's the reason psychologists and psychiatrists exist in such high numbers. "Doctor, I saw my 16 year-old drinking beer and smoking. Can you cure him of such behaviour? It makes me look bad". "Of course I can 'cure' him. It won't be cheap though." There's just a desperation for autism to be a disease, then it would be curable or preventable.
I'm afraid I can't spare any of my Autism right now, but you can have the bit of my ADHD that made me hyperfocus on tidying a tiny corner of my studio yesterday. That "Just a minute" of sorting resulted in 90 minutes of randomly applied effort and tidier places that weren't noticeable to anyone else... 🤷♀ If researchers are going to give me anything I'd like it to be more acceptance and accommodations at work so that that bit of the woeld is less tiring and leaves more space for me in my own life.
If anything, veganism hase made me LESS social since people are cruel and don't really care about animals Also I don't get how there are so many parents that rely only on like one source for autism topics, when i researched it, I watched a variety of different people, read from different websites and it was not so hard to see what autism REALLY is. Although I am not neurotypical, so I am not "lazy" as they are heheh
The problem with vitamin studies like the vitamin D autism study is ignoring the fact that a sizable percentage of the populations living in Northern and Southern hemispheres are vitamin D deficient to one degree or another, so of course it's going to show a benefit to autistics. What they need to do is run the exact same study concurrently using non autistics, I bet they will get similar results with both groups. It's disingenuous to do an incomplete or poorly planned study, then trumpet your inaccurate results as a miracle cure
I really hope Dr. Michael Gregor realises how ass backwards and unfortunate these statements are when the backlash undoubtedly result, because guess what, autistics get on the internet and WILL feel a way about this, and let him know. In my attempts to eat a more plant predominant diet I have sought out information on sound plant nutrition from him before, but now I can't say I have much respect for him anymore.
The worst thing about all of this is that processed food and lack of whole fresh food (because it’s so expensive in comparison to processed food) is harming all sorts of people in all sorts of ways. So even if there were some benefits to autistic people of eating more or less (insert latest fad here), it is usually only available to rich people, along with all the other health benefits of whole fresh foods. But instead of lobbying governments for equitable production, distribution and consumption to f whole fresh foods, people invent fads to make money. So sad.
Agreed. But I also commented earlier how a lot of vegan foods are highly processed - all the fake meats and cheeses etc are all processed foods, I never understand why this is never mentioned.
I am thinking this is starting to no longer be the case, or frankly may have never been. These UPF corporations know their position and are abusing it like all the other corpos out there, shrinkflation. I think they are going to prey on the very idea that people have that "eating whole foods is expensive" and eating their fancy MREs is the cheaper option. I ended up spending the same per week when I made the switch, and lost weight doing so, I eat less because my body is getting what it needs from less and the additional fibre keeps me topped up for longer. Don't forget there is the additional health cost as well, don't worry, we have pharmaceutical corpos, a whole unregulated supplicant industry, and insurance providers to cover that base as well. Don't take this the wrong way, no personal attack on you and is only my own veiwpoint from my little section of the world. I love seeing people focusing on the real issues with society.
i've got at least 2 of my 5 kids with the tism and i highly suspect my husband and possibly myself and again my other 3 children may have a spectrum ism or 2 however disease neither they nor i have ... the fact that they have to call it a disease as though it's contagious is actually ridiculous - i can't even say the ease is dis- it would seem to be the only labeling that they can use to either show difference or get $$$
Excellent video! I admire your ability to maintain critical thinking when most vegans refuse to admit the many flaws in Dr. Greger’s messaging. Respect.
I myself complained to Neal Barnard's team at the physicians committee for responsible medicine when they began talking about whole food vegan diets for autism. I was met with an anti-vax autism mom and a brainwashed autistic person who claimed the diet worked for them. 🙄 I made a big stick about it, and ever since then they've switched gears and stayed silent. It must have been a shock to see that someone actually cared about autistic people! 💚 I am vegan too, that's why I had to explain it didn't change me at all.
Broccoli has been one of my favorite foods since I was a kid. I eat tons of the stuff. I'm still pretty fucking autistic. This is, unquestionably, the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my entire life and that's saying something.
Regressive: Every child develops differently in their own pace. That is common knowledge. When I had to write a paper in college, they always told us to use resources that were no more than 5 years old. So why are doctors using resources that is 40+ old? Some does 100+ year old resources. Also, I learned how surveys and studies could be inaccurate because it is not controlled. There are a lot of factors that causes whatever their hypothesis or theory is. Not just one thing. And that one thing is probably should not be a factor. Autism traits don’t go away. Autistic people just need accommodations for their environment. I think parents who have autistic children need to know everything about their child. Need to know all their autistic traits and then make the environment to accommodate them. Home and outside home. And schools should do the same thing. Peer Review, Controlled experiments. Science to back things up. Those are the things that need to make accurate studies? I would probably add evidence based but they used that term for ABA therapy and other things that is not right.
I eat broccoli all the time. I'm still Autistic! Hmmm. So much information! It's hard to even share my diagnosis because of reports like these. I get responses like why would you want to know you are Autistic? How can you be Autistic if people like you? So if you have been masking over life who are you? Why did you visit so and so the other day but said no you could not go to lunch with me a few months ago? It must be because your family has had a hard life so you must have been affected by that? I had just told this family member. Its not a disease. It's neurodevelopmental condition i was born with. I shared i was happy to know about my late diagnosis. That it helped me understand myself better. That looking at my past and present life it made my life make more sense to me. I shared that my brain just thinks differently. I said I love the way i think and process information. Long way of saying because of misinformation and people who claim to care about you, you dont have time or want to find out what Autism really is. I have 2 adult kids out of 5 who are Autistic. They are wonderful people! There sweet personalities and the way they think are very logical and sane! ❤😊 My sister and mom is who I shared with and I dont hear from my sister anymore since sharing. I am now not open to sharing with other people I know because of the negative response back. Its information like this doctor is sharing that set this kind of dialog up. 😢
I've been following Dr. Greger for a long time, so I find this really disappointing. It makes me wonder about all of his other videos. I'm vegan, eat broccoli and kale every single day, take a daily vitamin D supplement, and I'm still just as autistic as ever.
Well, broccoli is one of the few vegetables I eat, so you can be sure my mom served it often 😂 I am still autistic tough. Also, who gets more sociable when they have a fever? If I have a fever I feel real sick and dont want to talk to anyone. 😅
I’m plant based and broccoli hasn’t cured my autism. 😊 The only thing that’s ever made my brain quieter is when I was on a high dosage of morphine following an operation. 🤪
I wonder if the kids whose parents saw improved behaviour with the GFCF diet were just happier because their parents were happier because food was being provided and they didn't have to shop or cook....
Very jarring to hear him call autism a disease. My autistic kid is literally just chilling. I once tried to google to search for ideas for more safe foods for my kid (who generally eats quite beige) and instead got flooded with articles shilling this or that diet to “cure” autism. 😬 I just wanted more ideas for different foods.
I seem to become a little more sociable, I mean "normal" when I'm actually interested in a conversation or activity, so how many things do I have to do at once to cure my "disease"? what does the ritual look like? What God is involved if any? Can I give my autism to the fey? Do I have to wear a lampshade and jump in a circle on one leg while swinging around broccoli?
(later edit: in case it's not obvious, heavy sarcasm hereafter) My autistic daughter's "symptoms" definitely get better when she eats broccoli. Because broccoli is one of her comfort foods that helps her with sensory issues. So yes, it helps. Her, in particular. It's because auf the texture of the little flowery bits being just right. I'm also autistic. I tolerate broccoli when I'm ok. When I'm in sensory overload, I don't because it smells wrong. There you go, that's my bit of anecdotal evidence: broccoli helps autism in 50% of cases.
Crickie Mike, Its such a let down to say the least, when somebody you have respected and followed lets you down. I really hope you get a chance to help him understand Autism for all our sakes. We need people to stop trying to fix use from illusion. When what we need is understand and embracing our diversity. Do we say people who are rheus negative O need healing because they can share their blood with everybody....... No. But giving birth could kill them by there own baby. Still a subject we dont fully understand.
Some dieticians want me to eliminate broccoli and other similar veggies because I have Hashimoto's (which is an outdated view but let's run with it for a moment). Does that mean I have to choose between treating my thyroid or treating autism? How should I choose???
I’m a high functioning autistic. I got two autistic kids and I can tell you right now. My kids do not act like that when they have a fever. They’re not more talkative. They get fucking lethargic they get sick. They get what is commonly referred to as feel like shit and they don’t want to talk and they don’t want to communicate all they want is their hugs and cuddles And a cold ice pack on their head? I swear if this is what normal people think or apparently this specific subset of human species I’m glad I am further away and neurodivergent than a normal person. I have ADHD combined type. I have ASD level one. I have dyslexia, audio processing disorder, but yet I still have an IQ of 143 and a EQ of 125. These people are so stupid it I just can’t understand literally like the actual understanding of these people‘s logic Because I go based off of purely logic the majority of the time and these people are illogical.

You know what also happens when you have a fever? You get to stay home where you don't have to mask. Correlation does not always equal causation.
Ohhh, autism is just being cold! shivering = stimming 🤣🤣🤣
Jokes on you sir... my autism is FED by the broccoli. The more I consume the more powerful I shall become!

It was the same for me
Aahh same! Lol

😂😂😂
Broccoli treats autism? It’s been my favorite vegetable my whole life, why am I still autistic?
Some veg will improve your gut health, but it's not going to fix the 'tism.
My thoughts:
I never entertained the possibility that Greger might be autistic, but damn, you might but onto something
I don't even need to watch the video to know that guy is a bit too far in the salad dressing.
My safe food was broccoli as a child. It's all wanted to eat for 5-6 years. The texture is just soo good. Still autistic lol
Still going to watch it... I'm curious.
It's such a cliche that autistic people will only eat chicken nuggets and spaghetti. I know several who have loved veggies and fruits since early childhood. Many are vegan now (I'm not tho). My safe food is whole-grain bread, nuggets make me vomit 😅
@MLX1401 I honestly feel that. I have never been a chicken or nuggie person. Now breaded zucchini ❤️.
Bread rolls are bomb and I will inhale if able.
The broccoli dish is the only thing I find palatable in Nando’s, but I refuse to pay £6.99 for 5 sticks of broccoli, so I never go there and everyone thinks I’m weird.
@tracik1277 lol I feel like we've have had similar experiences in different places.
I am dreading to watch. People like that harm both autistic and vegan folks and it's just so frustrating.
Grifteconomics is strong with this doctor.
Sending you all of my autism ❤
Well stated! 😄👍
That Monty Python clip was quite possibly the best placed comedic break I’ve ever seen 🤣
Yes!
Wow Cern that's incredible, would love to just visit, but to work there just wow. And so pleased you got a cure for your coeliac.
Ughh!!
5:03 fevers probably increase sociability just like alcohol does - you feel a bit out of it, dissociated, and delirious.
Hi Stephanie, yes, I agree. Also, kids will scream/vocalise for attention when ill(water, comfort, etc!).
Oh man, I have always loved broccoli! Must be why my autism got missed for 40 years 🙄
12:40 As someone who is gluten intolerant, the "there's one option and it's pretty mid" feels like some of my dining experiences.
Unless counting fewer hypothetical meltdowns and shutdowns that would’ve likely occurred due to illness (and impending death) caused by eating gluten😂
lmao I'm vegan and it sure didn't "cure" my autism xD
You'd have thought this idea was pretty easy to refute! Unless... Could the probably already higher than average broccoli intake of many autistics be 'keeping a lid' on something? Maybe, without broccoli, we turn mega autistic!
I had Broccoli last week, and was briefly cured of autism.
That would make a hilarious ad campaign for broccoli producers!
For all the broccoli I've eaten in my life , I shouldn't be autistic a let alone Level 2 !
If broccoli is a 'cure' then I must be eating the wrong broccoli because I eat it often... 🤔
9:49 - my cat's treat logic 😹 He's like a little alchemist manifesting treats 😆
"It worked once, so I *should* get a treat if I repeat the exact series of events!"

One of my cats has started this little „dance“ because she thinks it manifests treats. Magic thinking at it’s best 🎉😂
OK, N of 1 here. Broccoli is one of my faves. It is indeed awesome. I'm still an alien. Must be something else than autism then.
I am finally feeling like what I now know is simply my autistic self.
at least a third of the autistic people i know are both already vegan and still autistic.
Always fun.
As an autistic vegan who follows Dr. Michael Greger, this is really disappointing to hear

Thank you for bringing up both allergies and other food issues. Good video, good explanations and bringing up the actual studies. ❤
Diet definitely helps me regulate my energy and emotions but I’m still auDHD!

Hell naw!
as someone that has even vegetarian for the past 10 years, & that discovered 2 years ago she was autistic, my grandma would tell this doctor otherwise
Wild that what he's saying implies that none of us autistics are eating broccoli.... my last two meal plates wildly disagree with that... I'm also vegan, and have been plant-based for many years and I'm still autistic....... and I'm pretty sick of these quacks telling me I'm sick.
Lol, I was diagnosed as being autistic when I was 49. Funny enough broccoli was one of my favourite vegetables, as a child 😂
I love all of the Broccolids, despite them worsening my Flatulent Affect.
lol I dread to think what I'd be like if I stopped eating broccoli.

A lot of people seem to think of children as fashion accessories. They want the perfect designer family and seem to think that if their kids misbehave in someway, society will be sneering and laughing at them for having these kids. It's the reason psychologists and psychiatrists exist in such high numbers. "Doctor, I saw my 16 year-old drinking beer and smoking. Can you cure him of such behaviour? It makes me look bad". "Of course I can 'cure' him. It won't be cheap though."
There's just a desperation for autism to be a disease, then it would be curable or preventable.
If anything, veganism hase made me LESS social since people are cruel and don't really care about animals
Also I don't get how there are so many parents that rely only on like one source for autism topics, when i researched it, I watched a variety of different people, read from different websites and it was not so hard to see what autism REALLY is.
It's disingenuous to do an incomplete or poorly planned study, then trumpet your inaccurate results as a miracle cure
support please, not "fix".
I eat a lot of broccoli since it's my favorite vegetable. Still autistic.
Love me some broccoli, both raw and cooked. AuDHD 🥦 squad checking in.
Respect.
This is a sweet video! It seems like NT's are the ones "dis-eased" with our ND brains.😅
I've been giving my autistic son broccoli all the time and still he is still autistic so it's a load of crap.

Broccoli has been one of my favorite foods since I was a kid. I eat tons of the stuff. I'm still pretty fucking autistic.
This is, unquestionably, the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my entire life and that's saying something.
Unless you just eat whole foods (basically fruit and vegetables), vegan food includes some of the most processed food out there.
Even though the larger issue seems to be missed diagnoses, I wouldn't be surprised if there were enough false positives to account for that.
(later edit: in case it's not obvious, heavy sarcasm hereafter)
My autistic daughter's "symptoms" definitely get better when she eats broccoli.
I’ve been vegan for seven years, and I’m still Autistic.
12 for me and broccoli is my favorite. Same result.
🌱
Some dieticians want me to eliminate broccoli and other similar veggies because I have Hashimoto's (which is an outdated view but let's run with it for a moment).
Does that mean I have to choose between treating my thyroid or treating autism? How should I choose???
I've been vegan 4 years but I'm still autistic lol
