The H frame easel was sent to me for free but I didn't receive any payment, and obviously I'm completely free to give my honest opinion, so here it is :
➕ pros: It's a very well built and well designed easel, the ease of use is great and it's super flexible, great for those who want to switch mediums in the blink of an eye. Packaging is top notch. Good value and available worldwide, which is nice. Vertical extension for the center pole makes it ridiculously tall, I love it ! It's solid and woodwork is high quality. Great coasters, they all lock. Very clean finish for a good price.
➖ cons: it's a little shaky at times. I regret that there is no locking device to keep it steady upright. Six bolts needs to be turned every time you switch position and you need to tighten it well or it wabbles a little after you're back up. The lifting rack is a little hard to reach and makes it tough to raise the canvas. For artist only interested in oil painting, the hybrid system is not needed and a fixed position easel would be more stable. It's a trade-off, flexibility sacrifices a little bit of sturdiness. Acceptable if you want to paint with mixed media, not necessary for oil painters, get a simple fixed position H frame easel.

About the Pochade box : it's also from Meeden but it's not part of the partnership ! I paid this with my own money years ago for plein air.
It's actually great and totally recommend for small space or plein air (note that it is heavy and requires a very strong tripod, like a camera tripod for example).

I am an artist living and working in France. I paint mainly imaginative realism. I’m mostly self-taught, I learned the techniques of the Academy of the Nineteenth century by myself and now I try to share some of my knowledge with the rest of the world, because I think that beauty still has an important role to play in artistic creation. On TH-cam, I do mostly drawing and oil painting techniques videos in the Atelier tradition, I share thoughts and explanations that can be useful to anyone, from beginners to more advanced artists interested in picking up realism and classical figuration.

I'm so glad you bought the same easil as me! I immediately named her beast too! Ha hahaha Meeden is a great company. This is my second one! I love them both
he didn't bought it. They sent it to him
My daughter gave me a Meeden for Yule! I LOVE it!
I have severe spinal disability, including two disc replacements in my neck, and must stand to paint, so the ergonomics of my studio setup are very import. I use a counterweight easel. It looks similar to this one but does not have any ratcheting and can bring a painting both lower and higher. It uses counterweights behind the easel attached by a wire. You just place standard weight lifting weights on the counterweight until it's around the same weight as your canvas or panel. You can then lower it or raise it as little as a millimeter at a time with only your pinky finger. This way whatever part of your piece you are working on can be right in front of your face or wherever is comfortable to you.
I've also seen a very expensive easel that attaches to the back of canvases and can move both vertically and horizontally. I believe Jeremy Lipking uses it.
No way I was searching to buy my first easel yesterday. Timing couldn't be better!
This is why I made my own easel, to unlock the style of painting that I wish to create. I can work for hour on my easel, it has a built in maul/t-square, and adjustable beam, counter balanced, which are features that cost nearly 2 grand store bought! I made mine for less than 150$. Easels are a scam.
I love my 2 Meeden easels. ❤ I have one in that size and the giant H frame with locking wheels. 😁
This week, I learned that the reason why my easel keeps falling over while I paint is it's a display. Ordered a meeden H a couple days ago. Mine will be like that, but I think it's the bigger one.
Any suggestions for using it for smaller canvases? I've a series of 12x12 inch canvases to paint next.
The lock idea is brilliant. I'm going to try it. From reading reviews, the weakness of this design comes from wearing out the hardware with over tightening.
Yes love my H frame easel! It really has helped take my art to a new level. Mont Marte is also excellent! Very stable, and i dont have an issue with it becoming loose. However i would prefer better wheels. The plastic locking wheels lock fine, but still like to slide. I can easily fix this problem by replacing them with rubber wheels, just havnt done it.
Hi Florent. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us as I have learnt alot from your tutorials. You mentioned that you can strengthen your H easel and I was wondering if you could share how you could do that. I have this easel as well and it is a little lose/shaky no matter how much I have tightened all knobs. Thanks again.
I am not a fan of the middle ratchet sysem typically. I find over time the tray will wobble back abd forth. The biggest think with H frames to pay attention to is the top mast not being fixed with the tray as most will hit the ceiling before getting to the height you want. The other big thing is that the top clamp comes all the down = Many H frame easels the top clamp stops where the middle bar on the lower portion starts.
I am 85 years old and find it difficult to stand and paint. However, a tabletop easel is small and awkward . Do you have a practical suggestion for an oldie like me?
You can adjust the hight of almost every H frame easel. Just lower it and paint seated. Lot of photorealism painter do so, because they have long sessions of tedious work. Maybe google how their studios look.
Love most of your videos, but this one was too stressfull.
Cozy,that works.
Cheers
I’m pretty sure I am not being held back by my easel.
I get you need new content but Jesus
