This is the song that woke me up from slumber during this covid era. I've always been Nightwish fan but during this covid time I re-found Nightwish again. I'm lucky and happy to own all the Nightwish studio albums. This is the music that heals my soul when I'm feeling sad. In a documentary Tuomas (the metal Mozart) said that a fan asked him write music that heals your broken heart. He has done that. I'm ever greatful to Tuomas and Nightwish music. There is no other band like this. Not even close.
Floor Jansen is just... magical! She herself is such a versatile "instrument", she catches the hearts of the audience everywhere! The goddess of symphonic metal!
This song is so epic...really makes you put your thoughts into perspective! Regardless of how difficult, painful or sad our lives are... we must remember that we are still lucky to be here. Having Richard Dawkins recite Charles Darwin quotes is very powerful! Dolly, Floor's dress is a representation of the double helix.
The saddest words are "We Were Here" because it speaks to the end of mankind. My hopes, dreams, and desires are all found in mankind continuing. I have no faith in the supernatural, so for me life is finite there is nothing on the other side of death. If mankind falls, then what the hell was it all for. The wars, conquest, losses, gains, knowledge, sciences, poetry, songs, music, arts all the deaths over who's God(s) are real. For nothing, if we fail to advance as a species into the universe and survive. No, I never want to imagine a giant obelisk where mankind once stood saying "We Were Here". All we were, gone to dust.

John asking Donny how she feels,. she answers with "wild and full of surprize". I can go with that, but the real answer should be; " these lyrics are so close to the truth of evolution, it just can't be denied". The way Nightwish portrays this track is undoubtly the most truthfull about all the things happened in the last 4 and a half billion years. Tuomas is a genius at all things musical, though the song has scientific mistakes in it, and Wolf HunterZ misinterpret much. First, the initial fireworks seem to signify the LHB (Late Heavy Bombardment) which coincides with the start of life on Earth, or at least this instance of it. There was a brief reference to what came before, with the newborns around the fire and Goldilocks verses. However, the "newborns" were not pulled around the fire; they were born there. Also, LUCA did not appear until well after life was established, having been a lifeform, itself. The song is not about the origin of the universe, it is specifically about life on Earth. Keeping the context in mind, other misinterpretations are easy to spot.
Actually, not the universe. It is the creation of Earth and then evolution. If you look at the section titles, they start with 4.6bn years ago which is creation of earth whereas the universe is approx 14bn years. Just saying...
