Does the focused/spot beam work with Reactiv lighting? Mine does not. EDIT: I was testing the Reactive mode with a finger over the sensor which does not block enough light to activate the high powered 'focused beam'
@@ActiveIdeas I understand how Reactiv mode works. I am wondering if the focused/spot beam works with it. I am not seeing that happening on my old or new Swift RL. Thanks
@blakegordon4201 tbh mate, I didn’t even know it had a “spot beam mode” I’m only familiar with the “standard mode” and the “reactive mode” .. wish I could help more. If you can’t find answers it’s worth trying to get in touch with Petzl, they have fantastic customer service 👍🏽
@@ActiveIdeas thanks. I just picked up a new Swift RL so was going through it and the manual. There are two LED lights on both the new and old model. A wide angle (on the left when looking at the headlamp) and a spot beam (on the right). The Reactiv seems to only work with the wide beam. Standard mode utilizes both which I find odd as the spot beam with be most useful for high lumen applications. And the headlamp puts out more lumens in Reactiv mode than it does in standard mode. I have reached out to customer service but was checking with other users. Thanks for the reply.
@blakegordon4201 you make some really interesting points and I’d Love to hear what they say! Can you let me know what their response is as I’ve ordered the Swift RL 1100 lumen and would probably be wondering this myself for a TH-cam review 😅🤣
I think you’re getting confused between the 900lm swift and the newer 1100lm swift. The older 900lm swift doesn’t have a red mode but the 1100lm does 👍🏽
@ActiveIdeas yep. It took some googling but figured that out after a couple hours. All the stores I visited had the rl900 on for the same price as the 1100 which is newer, brighter and better. I assumed they had the same features.
I have one of these. Good quality product with good batt life and recharging capability but; reactive lighting is more of a nuisance than a benefit. It often switches brightness when I don't want it to. Gets annoying after a while. Anyway, nice job on the video -thanks.
Thankyou for the comment much, super appreciate that!! Yeah I know what you mean! I often get visual headaches so when I look at my phone or watch screen and the torch dims itself it’s an absolute life saver but it definitely is sensitive and seems to have a life of its own. Good when it works but annoying when it doesn’t! Petzl are getting there though! 👏🏽 🌟
For this, the RL would be perfect… my only issue with the RL is that it is ONLY rechargeable so if you want extended battery life you’ll have to buy another “ACCU SWIFT® RL“ battery pack or carry a spare head torch whilst the RL charges. I found this to be somewhat inconvenient in my 24 hour races. Other than that it has been flawless and I’m impressed at its ability to hold charge even during the coldest of temperatures. … if the issue of rechargeable battery is an issue to you and you’re looking at activities longer than 4-8 hours I would suggest the Petzl Actik Core.. this torch is only 450 lumens but in complete darkness it is still unbelievably bright with a good flood of light 💡I’ve found it to be reliable but also super quick/easy to switch between 3xAAA battery to the core battery pack, the core packs are also a little cheaper than swift packs 👍🏽 hope this helps 🌟
@@ActiveIdeas I’m just kidding :) I was going to buy it and I searched reviews and you came up. Is it much brighter than those cheap ones you get from screwfix etc? They cost 20 quid and this is a hundred. Worth the money?
It's a great head torch3 When I know I've got harsh conditions ahead of me I've always opted for this. What I haven't liked is the durability, Ive taken care of mine and warn it casually and for some ultras.. always clean it with warm water (to remove sweat). But my, fair enough very comfortable, headband has fallen apart (spilt to two). Im thinking for me personally I se myself having the cheaper Atick Core for training and the NAO for ultras rather than having this do it all head torch.
@@ActiveIdeas I actually bought it in the strength of your review. The only downside is on its brightest setting, you have to be in adaptive mode. The standard mode is bright, don’t get me wrong, but for that price it would have been nice to have the option of keeping it on its maximum power.
Fair comment, I guess I assumed 1000 lumens is 1000 lumens (bloody bright) and what was more interesting was battery life, comfort.. etc. Shall definitely include night time shots in the next review 😉🌟

Have you tried holding down the On Button to switch into reactive mode?

Can anyone get this into red light or strobe? All the documentation says I should be able to but i can't and you didnt cover this in your reveiw.

@orb1980 it seems, even the distributors get confused between the differences. I’m not surprised 🙈🤭

A pleasure Alistair!
Subscribed to Your channel, but what i expected from this video was night mode test and how RL behaves in darkness.
Thanks for the heads up👊🏽 I’ve got lots more headtorches to review now so I’ll bear that in mind 🌟

A daylight torch review 😂
Forgive me 🤣🤣👏🏽

Very fair point! You HAVE to like adaptive lightening and even then it’s so variable in the battery duration 🤣
really fam ? you are testing a headlamp when sun shines bravo
Hahaha touché
Why review a head torch in day time? Complete waste of a review
