Each individual address that is installed by Tempo is sized using the current requirements of the Texas Department of License and Regulation (TDLR). This is currently the Air Conditioning Contractors of America’s (ACCA) Manual S, J and D.
Many factors go into this calculation, including the size of the home, type and quantity of windows, the type of insulation used, the type of equipment being installed and much more including even which way the home is facing.
The majority of homes in the DFW area are designed to hit 75 degrees on a 100-degree day. In a couple of areas, it is 98-99 degrees. We call this the 1% rule. In a typical year, less than 1% of the time is it above 100 degrees.
It is important to understand that in extreme weather when temperatures rise above 100 degrees, system performance and expectations must be adjusted. The system will continue to run as designed but there is a chance that it will not reach design temperature due to the nature of the weather event.
Conversely, when temperatures are below 100 degrees, although your system should be at least 75 degrees if not better, the only design condition that is followed is for it to reach 75 degrees on a 100-degree day. Acceptable home humidity is between 40% and 60%. Your Manual J is designed for 50%.
Outside of an extreme weather event, if your HVAC systems is not turning on, blowing noticeably warm air when calling for cold or temperatures continue to rise in the home even with the system running, you could be having a legitimate HVAC issue.
If you only have 1 system and it is over 85 degrees outside, this constitutes an emergency condition for Tempo and we will respond to your request with high priority, usually within 8 hours if not sooner. Any water leakage because of an HVAC system is also an emergency.
You may also notice hot spots in certain rooms. Although this is not an emergency, we do want to hear about issues like these and work with you to schedule a time for a certified technician to confirm this and likely assist with an air balance. These will be scheduled as available.
Dirty filters cause a lot of problems for HVAC performance. Make sure to change your filters as often as they need to be changed. It could be days, weeks, months or even up to a year between when a filter needs to be changed depending on how the home is used and the area surrounding. We highly recommend routinely cleaning your outdoor unit as well. To do this simply make sure the unit is off and use a garden hose, not a pressure washer.
If your system is not turning on, please confirm that all breakers are on and that the light switch that powers your indoor furnace/air handler and the larger switch that powers your outdoor unit are in the on position.
Leave your thermostat at the desired temperature regardless of if you are home or not, unless you'll be leaving your home for an extended period of time. i.e. Such as vacations or long business trips. It can take a long time for temperatures to drop in homes. You have a very energy efficient system that is designed to run. System short cycling is what causes high electricity bills, not running systems.
