A Look at the MBTA’s Retired D40LF Buses at The Albany Street & Everett Bus Yards

In this video we explore both the MBTA’s Albany Street Garage and the Maintenance facility in Everett. Here we take a look at newly retired New Flyer D40LF buses as well as the remaining active ones. We also check out the brand new 3200 series buses destined to replace the aging D40s. These are 2023 Xcelsior buses also built by New Flyer Industries.

The remaining 64 of the Neoplan ANN40LF and 29 Neoplan DM60lF Dual Mode buss which were at Wellington Yard. Have all just got removed and loaded on flatbed trucks and sent to Scrap. Wellington is cleared up. 2 ANN40LF have been preserved. 3 Active on SL1

Right now there are 19 active 2006 D40LF's, 2 Stored. So 0711 is going to be preserved and 0653 got transfered to Albany Street Garage from Everett Yard. 116 Of the 3200s & 3300s are active. So we have 0620 & 0621 at Charlestown Garage, 0666 at Southampton Garage, 0699, 0701, & 0709 at Martha's Vineyard.

The T is down to 37 active D40LF's 2006 New Flyer. New 3300's are at Lynn Garage, allowing 2008 New Flyers to move into fellsway Garage. It is planned to have 133 XDE40's by September 23, 2023. So by that point expect 20 or 15 D40LF's 2006 Flyers active. These will be totally gone by October 2023

Man, the MBTA should probably keep some of the D40's in service, like the 08's.. These types of Diesel buses are perfectly working. But the D40LF's on the MBTA diesel fleet have sadly shown there age.

R.I.P 0712 and 0643 speaking of which I think the D40LFs deserve a proper retirement like the Trackless Trolleys instead of just scrapping them same with the Neoplans at Wellington they deserve a proper retirement as well

As of only 8 2006 New Flyer D40LFs are left in service: 0608 0610 0616 0630 0640 0651 0675 0696. Fellsway Garage has 8 2006-2007 New Flyer D40LF's, 46 2008 Nee Flyer D40LF's, and 6 2014-2015 New Flyer XDE40'S. Southampton Street Garage has 19 2008 New Flyer D40LF's for routes 16 28 and 39.

@jacobschwartz599 they started retiring them in April of this year also I caught 0728 a few times before but I'm still hunting for D40LFs every day and 0728 is at Fellsway btw so it's nice to see a 0700 bus run Charlestown routes like the good days

@@markhenry659 D40LF's 0600-0733 are constructed in 2006 D40LF's 0734-0754 are constructed in 2007. So 0728 is a 2006 Flyer

Just checked the CPTDB wiki page and it seems all of MBTA’s busses from 2006 have been retired/scrapped. That mean Chicago is the last agency to have active D40LF’s from that year.
