  • The Fender Bassman is a bass amplifier introduced by Fender during 1952. Initially intended to amplify bass guitars, the 5B6 Bassman was used by musicians for other instrument amplification, including the electric guitar, harmonica, and pedal steel guitars. Besides being a popular and important amplifier in its own right, the Bassman also became the foundation on which Marshall and other companies built their high-gain tube amplifiers.
    This Bassman Amp is all original amp from 1955. These are hard to find in this condition. This amp has two inputs the normal and bright inputs. Listen to both inputs in this demo.

    Finally, I've heard a guy playing a Telecaster that doesn't sound like a Treble Factory. My faith in Telecasters has been restored - Why don't all Fender Guitars sound like this !!

      It's the amp. Natural compression with the rectifier circuit.

      Even my plain Jane Mexican Tele sounded like a Tele. Seen so many that just can't play unless it's the sound is loud and distorted. Those guys don't have a clue what real tone is. This guy here, does. I don't know what his pickups are, but this looks like a 50's Reissue Tele. This amp shines though.

      As someone else put those tweed amps have a lot of midrange, which definitely tames that top end off of the telecaster. Seems like a match made in heaven! Almost like they were designed to be played together...

      It's aaaallll about the EQ man, my jazz box in the same amp and settings as my tele, sounds like a mud puddle. When i have it set up for my jazz box, and I switch to my tele, it makes my teeth hurt how much treble there is.

      Cranking the amp gets lots of distortion and robs tone like you hear here. That's why we Mike amps to preserve tone. If you're after distortion, look for an ear ringing Marshall.

    Nice demo (well played too). Amazing how tight the low end is - deep not flabby. This amp really shows another side of the Tele single coils - cuts down the shimmer but the high freqs stay in the mix - very tame. Good EQ job sir, would like to know where your mid was set if you recall? Thx for putting this out here.

  • @PeterDad60

    I have a '59 Bassman LTD (Reissue) and yes these were not great Bass amps. I found out it was all on account of the speakers.
    Inside the Box are 4 RCA mono-female connectors. Each speaker has it's onw RCA male connector. Guess what? I doubled them up-2 original 10" Jensen speakers on each rear RCA connector. So this means 4 of 8 ohm speakers= 2 ohm load which is what the amp is designed for.
    Next, I can pull off the male RCA speaker Jacks thus disconecting all four speakers. Then I have two more double RCA jacks and I hook up two 4 om bass cabs or 4 8 ohm bass cabs.
    My Bassman is a great sounding and powerful and articulate Bass amp. Leo did that right. Only the original Jensen P10R speakers were not great for bass and would/could blow. I don't have that problem. I have a great sounding Bass amp now.
    Oh, and I can pull out the RCA connectors to the Bass cabs and reconnect all 4 of the 10 inch P10R Jensens in about 2 min. (I'm carefull). Now I have the greatest guitar amp in the world.
    I'm glad I researched the reasons why the Bassman was not considered a great / good bass amp. I discovered it's the Jensen P10R 10 inch speakers. They only go down to 70 Hz and up to about 7 Hz. Ok for guitar. Also they are only 25 watts each. Once I figured out that all I need is proper Bass speakers and I found out how easy it is to hook up external Bass cabs I'm using my Bassman as a Bass amp just as Leo intended. I know good bass tone as one of my old Bass amps was a Ampeg SVT-CL 300 watt tube amp and I ran at 2 ohms with an Crown 810, a HLF410 and a SVT-15E. My Bassman at around 40-50 real tube watts is loud. I can run 4 of the 8 ohm or 2 of 4 ohm Bass cabs at 2 ohms and get more volume than my ears can handle. The thing of it is, the tone is there!
    The Bassman. The one Tube amplifier that can do it all!
    -Peter
    Settings are Normal Channel for Bass and Bright Channel for Guitar. The Presence can modify the treble as to your preference when playing guitar. So. Now don't tell me that Leo didn't design his Bassman to be both a Bass and a Guitar amp, because he did. His choice of speakers is the tell! Great for guitar and passable but not great for Bass.

      PeterDad60 I’ve been thinking about the tweed amp with bass cabinets for years. I thought, well, could run it with 2 svt fridges at 2ohms. I’d love to see some sound clips of your results with just an I phone if you ever have a chance.

    • @Rhythmicons
      @Rhythmicons 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a blonde 6G6-B with Oxfords and what I can say about that is that it has incredible reproduction of the frequencies but lacks the oomph of a modern bass amp. I use it for a Les Paul, a Hohner D6, and occasionally a Minimoog. It's amazing.

    • @PeterDad60
      @PeterDad60 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@artisanmetalcraft Aaron you can connect those SVT cab's yourself to any amp that can go down to 2 ohms, the 60 watt Bassman uses two power tubes but truthfully 2 6L6 power tubes can not push as much air or get as loud as the 300 watt SVT Classic because it uses 6 power tubes. But in your home 60 watts is loud enough and the tone is there.

    • @PeterDad60
      @PeterDad60 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Rhythmicons I agree because the Bassman's 2 6L6 power tubes at 60 watts is less than modern bass amps as they are usually over 300 watts and the transistor solid state bass amps can be 800 and 1000 watts easily so yes they have more "OMPH".

    • @Rhythmicons
      @Rhythmicons ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PeterDad60 That and I don't think the purpose was to have "oomph" back then.
