This crab spicies is actually a brakish water crab they live in less satyer estuaries as young crabs and move to saltier water in the ocean. The telling sing that it's a marine crab is that it has barnacles witch only grow in salt water conditions also short term fresh water won't kill a crab or make it uncomfortable it only disorients the crabs smelling organs for a short while. It can stay in fresh water for 3 days before it becomes a deadly problem. It's also why in walmart if you see these crabs in their tanks is fresh water because they move less in fresh water since it zaps them of their strength as the muscles used to move their body runs out of sodium ions.

@@ezra_764 the crab can survive for a good bit of time inside of fresh water due to their ability to adapt to those conditions, especially in an ‘in-home’ fishtank. It was not poisoned. The reason for it acting sluggish was probably because it was old. Though that is only an assumption based on the fact that there are barnacles on its shell, meaning that it has had that shell for quite some time now.

So, your crab here is a marine crab as you almost certainly already knew before torturing it. As a quick bit of research would tell anyone, there are both salt water (marine) and freshwater crabs eg. Afrithelphusa monodosa (Purple Marsh Crab) is a freshwater crab species in Guinea (West Africa) whilst Pachygrapsus marmoratus (Marbled Rock crab) is a marine species. There are also land crabs that live mainly on land and out of water fresh or salt. So it depends which crab we're talking about. Obviously one that has evolved to live in the ocean won't do well in freshwater and vice-versa for freshwater ones in salt. Not sure quite what you think this achieves although glad you rescued it at the end.

instead of adding and mixing the salt into the fountain water, I think you should get some real salt water from sea because that table salt we are using for the foods isn't same with the sea's salt, I mean when you are adding and mixing the table salt with fountain water, it is not being 100 percent same with the sea's water, that is why I definitely wouldn't do that.
