Color Matching in Photoshop Tutorial (Lab Color Mode) - Pantone Color of The Year
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 4 มิ.ย. 2024
- In this three-part Photoshop tutorial, we will learn how to use Adobe Stock’s visual search to find the right images for your projects faster, as well as learn two color-matching techniques.
00:00 - Introduction
01:40 - Using Adobe Stock's Visual Search
03:45 - Color Matching Using Hue Blending Mode
07:30 - Color Matching Using The Lab Color Mode
You can use the first method to change the color of an object quickly and easily using the Hue Blending Mode. The second method creates a more accurate color match using the Lab color mode.
The color that we’re going to match onto the objects in our images is Greenery, the Pantone Color of The Year 2017.
Every year since 2000, the Pantone Color Institute has chosen a color that reflects the current cultural climate. The Pantone color of the year has historically influenced trends in all facets of design. Including architecture, interior décor, fashion, food, travel, and many others fields.

This is the most efficient technic that I have learned.
You explained it so clearly...
Thanks a lot
Jeesssusss. That color change with LAB was beautiful to watch.
Thank you!
i've been looking for this tutorial for months saw it in other channels but they dont explain as great as you..your the best teacher in photoshop thankyou.subcribed
Thankyou very much!
Excellent tutorial. Thank you for going over everything clearly and slowly. You are a lifesaver.
Thanks for giving access to knowledge of photoshop to a remotest area of the globe. Thanks JR
I still refer to this video from time to time. Easiest way to color match. Thanks for the great content!
I am going to have to watch this video a few times, but this is exactly what I needed. Thanks...
You're welcome!
Simply great and concise, thanks for sharing your expertise!
This is a fantastic tip and one I will certainly have a look at. However… THE simplest way to swap colours is by using the Channel Mixer adjustment tool. It uses the same colour theory that preceeded Photoshop. I'm really liking the tips from the other videos, especially the LUT's one. Keep them coming!
Great Tutorial with Lab! Thank you very much!!
this is the best color changing tutorial, thank you a lot
You're welcome!
That was excellent! I learned a lot ... I so wish I could ask additional questions as you made this Photoshop tutorial, but you simplified the steps very concisely! kudos to you!
Great tutorial! You were really good with explaining the Lab colors and all the other things so that the whole process made sense to me.
Thank you, Cheryl!
Wow, will be doing this tomorrow. Wonderful, Thank You
Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial.
Tip you can use the num pad or number to add the number when finding the PMS color, handy tip ;)
Yup! Thx!
Cara, muito bom. Excelente. Obrigado.
You're welcome!
This is great and very helpful! I have a question coming off of this video...What is the best way to color match an actual swatch that is not on your computer (for example a piece of fabric) to an item in a photo?
WOW! amazing tutorial, thank you so much for sharing! Exactly what I was looking for...Now I need to practice.
Fantastic video! extremely easy to follow and understand. Thank you so much

Thank you for the excellent presentation.
You're welcome!
Got to 14:09 in the video where you enter the value of the Lightness into the output box. When I click on the output box to enter the value the output box (and input box) disappear. Using PS 2020. Cool technique. I wish I could get it to work. Cheers.
love this technique,...................
Awesome color tutorial! I definitely learned something new.
Great!
So, I'm wondering if there's a way for PS to pick a luminance midpoint from a selection. It seems like the best way to deal with the 1st point selection you made with the couch. Is that a thing?
Damn! This is ninja level photoshop! And so easy to do. Thanks!!
Thank you for this great video. I am just learning Photoshop and I find that your tutorials are very useful. Thank you for your efforts.
You're welcome!
Wow, very nice. Quite a bit to learn, but very helpful...
Thank you!
Easy to follow tutorial. I guess the second sample point doesn't need to be exact because somehow mine ended up being completely off the color I wanted to change at some point during the tutorial but I kept on going. I changed the values just like in the tutorial and my subject color changed to match as intended but sample #2 values didn't change because they were off target. Which makes me wonder the step of taking a second sample point is even needed. This was simple enough that I think I can remember how to do it next time without having to make an action or refer back to this video. Thanks!
You're the best! Thanks
Thank you, Stefoddy S!
hi, does this work for cmyk? Great explanation.
very good explanation, this tutorial is such a big help.I have always been having problem with matching color and this is so helpful and quick to do.
Thanks!
Thanks again to the beautiful tutorials and best wishes for happy holidays.
You're welcome! Happy Holidays!
This is brilliant .... Very well done
Brilliant, thanks!
You're welcome, Marmee!
Is it better to color an object using this technique than doing it through color match option or doing it by selecting the color and ad a hue saturation effect and colorize?
"Better" is a relative term. If you want to get a close approximation to a color then yes. If you need something that is not precise then use the other methods. No need to make it complicated if the precision is not required.
I’ve been using a crack Photoshop for YEARS. I’m still stuck on CS6. This channel almost makes me want to buy Photoshop....almost.👌
just crack for the latest photoshop. I use teamos.com check it out on google cause I'm not sure what is the exact domain name
Great tutorial
Thank you!
This is Fantastic Sir!

Glad it helped!
Wow! Rocket Science 101! LOL Seriously, that is cool! Thank you very much!
thank you.
You're welcome, Vũ Phiêu!
You could also make an adjustment layer and "apply image" A channel to mask of layer then modify mask with a curve 😊After doing all this I use to convert to smart objects while in LAB to preserve ALL layers, then I go back to RGB. Works like a charm and its non-destructable.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!!!
You're welcome! Love this video tho!
Using channels as mask is a very fast way to isolate colors like that, you can also "apply image" and use Lightness channel to get a luminosity mask, then tweak the mask with (CMD+M / Ctrl+M) curve so you can define it just as you want.
But yeah, the "Smart object" conversion inside of LAB changed my life totally. I can now go back in to LAB layers and modify long long down the road! :D You should show this to your subscribers because I think very few guys know about this! =)
You should check my "mentor" Dan Margulis on Kelby training. He literally is the "father" of LAB color space and he knows every corner of all colorspaces :) I bought all of his training videos and his books, just fan-tas-tic, and I learned so much! :)
Sorry for mentioning my mentor, but he is soon forgotten... He is really worth to watch.. He also have some youtube videos from long long back =) Search him; Dan Margulis
Yup. Dan is the father of Lab. Has great videos and books on it. He's real nice too. I met him a few years ago.
Thats awesome. I would be starstruck because I almost only use LAB for those "impossible corrections" thanks to him. I cannot wait for next movie now, I think the Pantone thing was a new a-ha for me. I used to do this a lot harder than this! Thanks!
so helpful tips, as always. Thank you Jesus

Hello, please I need urgent help, I have a solid grey-ash color applied at every instance of green on the image in PS, and I cant remove it. Because Its doesn't have a layer. I am confused how it happened.
I have tried to duplicate the layer and delete the previous one. But the color is still there
What can I do please?
I want you to teach us how to edit a stainless steel images, because there are so many shades going on when take the picture
Awesome tutorial Jesus. Will have to try it with some images.
Thanks! Yes, Try it, Scott!
Can I do this on affinity if I get it?
is this video part of a course you have or have had on offer?
This video is not part of a course.
Great tutorial! just a quick tip, you can type the number of the Pantone color instead of searching manually :)
Yup! I did it in the written version, but when I recorded it I did it this way. Why? Who knows. lol
I'm having problems using this technique with the purple color (#850de2). Do you think this technique is good just for a certain range of colors?
What is the problem exactly? I know that in images with specular highlights you may need to do a bit more work.
nice work , keep uploading videos please.
I will!
4:28 At this point, in the 'Color Libraries' box, you can simply type the number of the desired colour, in this case '376'.
Yup!
can use the first method to recolour a printed dress?
