    I'm an economics student right now and my biggest complaint is that it's often convoluted. Economists love incorporating math into theory in order to legitimize their theories. This makes it look good, it looks like the "correct" thing, but in reality it's mostly just shit. Theories are conjured in the abstract and then justified later by making the math work and then applied later by politicians whose ideology aligns with the theory.
    Also, so many graphs.

    Regarding the advice that we as Marxists can give people in these times, I remember watching russian marxist professor of economics, just like Dr.Wolff, Oleg Komolov. He said that in times of uncertainty the best investment you can make is to invest in yourself - take classes, pick up a trade, learn a skill, further your education if you can. This is one investment you won't lose. And I think it resonates really well with what Dr.Wolff also said about studying economics to better explain it to people from marxists perspective.
    btw, the guy I mentioned also have a TH-cam channel _Простые Числа_ (Prime Numbers), he speaks English and often gives interviews and visits streams and podcasts, so if you're ever interested in having an extremely based guest from behind the new Iron Curtain, Komolov will be the best choice in my opinion

      @-Zevin- 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@anotherslice2269 Here is the thing about Jordan Peterson, not everything he says is wrong, he is a total moron when it comes to social issues, economics, politics etc. However things like self improvement aren't a bad thing just because Peterson also encourages it. It's a bit of a throwing the baby out with the bathwater situation. Often times people we disagree with also have said things that are ok, but we too often make the mistake of disregarding absolutely anything someone has said that we don't like because of extreme bias, and I say this as someone who can't stand Peterson myself.

    I always find that reference to American war time rations being incredibly ironic because a great deal of fascist Germany's war endeavors in the latter stages of the war were crippled by the Nazi leadership's refusal to restructure their economy from consumer goods to war rations. A capitalist nation implamemting socialist measures helped a socialist nation defeat a fascist nation who depended strictly on capitalism.

      Is there somewhere we could read more about consumer goods production in the 3rd Reich?

    • @PMac13
      @PMac13 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jimcrelm9478 I'm sure there is a lot of reading material on it, but I don't have any suggestions at the moment. There are things like the personal diaries of senior officials in the third Reich. My general understanding of the situation is that after key losses in the later stages of the war when it was clear Germany was losing ground; Himler, Speer, and Goebbels were urging Hitler to enact Total War projects that involved allowing women to enter the industrial workforce and the total halting of production of consumer goods like makeup, fashionable clothing, closing of restaurants, ect. Hitler was worried about "losing the homefront" like in ww1, so he was determined to keep the idea of war far from the German domestic core. It wasn't until after battlles like the Battle of the Bulge and Stalingrad, when it was already too late, that he was willing to enact some Total War policies that would restrict production of luxury goods in the domestic sphere. Apparently even then the inner power struggles of the senior nazi officials caused them to constantly work against each other to ensure disorganization in the lines of production because they didn't want any competitor to gain extra favor from Hitler. Apparently Göring refused to help Goebbels and Speer with the Total War project because he was upset his favorite restaurant closed. Martin Bormam joined in just to slow the entire process down with bureaucratic counsels so that no one was able to fo "too good" of a job and threaten his relationship with Hitler. Himler was jealous of Speer for being too close with Hitler, so he refused access to concentration camp labour and factories. The whole internal hierarchy of the Nazi political structure was hell bent on backstabbing and shooting itself in the foot, cutting your ear to spite your face shit, because everyone was in constant competition instead of cooperation and cohesion.
