I have been propagating plants for over 50 years. This one is pretty thorough however it’s best to propagate air plants when they’re moist. But if you don’t hang them upside down so that they can dry a little bit then they’re going to rot when you cut off the nodes.
I'm amazed you've been propagating air plants for 50 years, wow! Do you soak your whole plant or just the root area like this video shows? I've always been told the whole plant needs soaking and that's what has worked for me, but I've only been doing it for a few years now.
You don’t soak them at the base won’t they rot you’re supposed to soak them in water and turn them upside down if the base is sitting in water it’s going to rot
Hi Laura, thank you for your comment! We do gently shake the plants to remove any excess water from the base and the leaves, then let it dry in an area with enough air circulation after letting them sit in water. We skipped that part in this video to focus on how to multiply air plants. Here is our video on how to water air plants that can give you more details: th-cam.com/video/SaML8lqopag/w-d-xo.html
How long do they take to grow pups. One of mine has already bloomed and the flower has already died a dried up but I can't see any signs of a pup growing from the mother plant
I've been told the whole plant should be soaked in the water because it's the leaves that draw the water in not the roots. I see you are only getting the root area wet, I'm confused!
Yeah you're right. Watering air plants may be done in three ways: misting, soaking, and a combination of the two. We just skipped the watering step in the video; thank you for letting us know; we will review the video next time and make each step clearer.
Great video, keep it up! I have my own channel on the subject of handicrafts and Origami and am therefore always on the lookout for new ideas and inspiration.
Wow, 10 years is impressive! 😮 Air plants usually need a bit more light or humidity to bloom. Try giving it a weekly soak and brighter indirect light, maybe it’ll surprise you soon! 😂
Great tips, I just got 5 air plants recently and one already has a pup!! I'm gonna be a Grandpa!!

OMG the pups look like mini pineapple tops, so cute
babies are always adorable!!!
How much of the base should be under water when watering?
Very helpful and simple, thank you for the video ❤
I see new groth directly in the middle of my air plant. Idk if its new growth or a pup?
How much time I have to let the pups sit in water after separating?
15-30 mins is fine. After that please make sure that u let it dry and don't let any water stuck in between the leaves
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
Thank you. Now i learned how go propaagate them
Yay, let's try it and let us know how it goes
Hare Krishna. Wow so nice planting 🎉🎉🎉

Pups dont come from plants, learn some biology please 😂
@@Tugela60 that's what the young plants are called that grow from the main plant once they have bloomes
@@flamingbridges1649 No, pups are baby dogs.
The term you should be using is an "offset".
Niece idea thanks a lot
Glad you loved it 💗

Fun fact air plants drink from there leaves
So cool right. Thanks to the natural structure of their roots, air plants can grow in different climates.
Not all Tillandsias do.
Soak them in water upside down
They are delicious in sushi or an omelette
you mean air plant in sushi and omelette?....
What the heck?! Do you really eat them 💔😭
They are not succulents, lmao 😂
Do all air plants do this?
Only the epiphytes. Other Tillandsias grow in soil, not all of them are epiphytes.
❤️🤍💙 :)
So glad that you love our video, Julie ❤️
