Incredible! I try to tell people all the time, you don’t need a lot of tools to make beautiful things, but you do need a lot of talent. You’ve got it sir!
Dude, this is incredible! From rough sawn lumber to a piece that will last more than 100 years. You inspire me to lean more towards hand tools. Thank you
Man!! As someone who started out as a hand tool only guy I have so much respect for you and this build. It came out incredible, and I hope you are really happy with this piece. The dovetail drawers look so nice. If I made this piece myself I wouldn’t let it go for anything less than $5000. This really inspired me to quit being so lazy and get out and build something. Awesome stuff man! Subscribing for sure!
Thanks, man! I absolutely love this piece, and my wife does too which is great! Totally worth the effort for sure, and honestly, it was more about the marathon than anything else. Most days I wanted to work on it, and rarely did I feel burdened to do so. It was such a wonderful growing experience, but all that said... it will be a long time before I embark on another project this involved. 🤣😂
I googled and found something very similar and it was selling for $4355.00 and although very nice I'm absolutely sure it wasn't made with hand tools. I agree, his piece is awesome.
I've watched a ton of super and great cabinets which were filmed on youtube but man... you TOTALLY outperformed almost anyone who I've seen. This is truly an art piece and your work is truly inspiring!!!
Holy cow, I can't believe you resawed walnut boards with a handsaw. When faced with that problem, I'd have grabbed car keys to buy some plywood, you grabbed a saw. The walnut incredible, excellent job!
You sir are a madman! And I mean that in the most positive way there is. I hope the kind of crazy you are doesn’t get watered down through the generations. We need more of your kind of crazy. Nice work!I thoroughly enjoyed watching this!
Electrician by trade but recently needed something and built it myself.. now I’m hooked. It’s amazing that it’s a bigger cost to get the proper hand tools vs the power tools. Still going to go this route purely out of love for the process.
As a powertool user it is extremely painful to watch the needed work to get few boards, but you have my absolute respect for patience and amazing craftmanship!
Building your bench took your woodworking to a whole new level, this sideboard continued that journey and took you totally out of sight of someone like myself. I’ve purposely avoided watching the individual videos as I’m going to watch the entire playlist one day soon. Unfortunately due to my disabilities this is too big a project for me to take on and I would love to do it. You have a lot to be very proud of, it’s absolutely gorgeous. Well done.
Thank you. The workbench really did give me new confidence, and this sideboard was a real labor of love that I’m so happy to have done. Naively, I didn’t think it would be such a big deal, but now in hindsight, I see just how much I learned along the way. Thanks so much!!!
Thank you for taking the time to share this. The result is impressive! I think the lesson (at least for me), is that the joy is in the process of making the product, not just the seeing the end result. I hope you enjoyed the process!
Outstanding workmanship and attention to detail. I am certain your family will enjoy and take great pleasure in this piece for many years to come. Best wishes.
I mean I've seen that sideboard so many times now, and still every time I think to myself "that is gorgeous!" Great job again and I'm excited to see what you have coming up next!
Really humbling to see you do that all by hand. Looks beautiful. I'm happy to see that folks are not just ditching the sapwood on Walnut. The thin lines look awesome on the top of your piece.
Thank you for your encouraging words! I generally tried to avoid it but I thought that it did end up looking good here! Goes to show that you have to see it to know what you want sometimes.
How in the world you managed to cut those thin boards in half...the whole way...and have them come out perfectly is beyond me 🤯 wow this is an amazing build
Dang brother. Way to hang in there on this build. What a ton of work! But what a great reward. I watched this at work Lol. Came back to comment. Great job 👍
Increasingly I also find hand tools are the way to go. My English Woodworker style bench is nearing completion (it has taken a while. I've learned a lot), so there will be a lot of learning before I can even contemplate something like this. Thank you for the inspiration.
Thanks for the kind words. A good workbench is a massive first step toward making your dream piece of furniture. And it’s all the better when you’ve made the workbench yourself! Cheers and here’s to that workbench and the projects it will help you create!
Freeking awesome! I never post comments, but man this video is making me go crazy wishing I had even half your talent. You said you are a Spanish teacher, have you ever considered teaching hand tool only woodworking during your summer breaks? If you are local I would definitely pay for your tutelage. That is a museum quality piece of art. You're awesome.
Oh man thanks for your very kind words! I can definitely say that this is my best ever piece, and it’s taken practice for sure. One of my first videos on the channel shows my very first piece of furniture and it’s not good 😂🤦♂️ but it is worth it to stay grounded and remember one’s journey. I do teach Spanish, and I have thought about doing teaching mostly to help people get into the hobby, because it’s been such a good thing for me. Again, I do appreciate your kindness in commenting here! God bless!
Thank you for inspiring me to continue my journey with woodworking. It’s beautiful. I can’t imagine amount of passion you had to complete this project. I am impressed like never before watching TH-cam woodworkers. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Thanks so much for your kinds words! I also have been inspired by TH-cam woodworkers! This was a long and difficult project for sure but soooo worth it. Take care!!!
You seem to be a left handed sawyer and a right handed planer. Interesting to see your leading hand swapping around. Great work, I admire the tenacity and care that you lavished on this build. Zen and the art of woodworking. 👍
Thank you! I’m actually a left for both. But I can plane righty somewhat, mostly with the specialty planes, like the rabbet plane or the Stanley 45. Take care!
Amazing skill, knowledge and talent! You are one of those real woodworkers that proving power tool is not a factor to build quality pieces, and definitely inspiring us with limited access to power tools (for whatever reason). Greeting from Indonesia. :)
Ha! Yeah I actually broke the blade the day I began the project and decided not to replace it until all was said and done just because. I was about to cut out a leg template before ripping the leg stock and BANG! The bandsaw blade snapped. It about gave me a heart attack. I like using it for doing things quick, but I don’t miss it all the much on projects because I just enjoy the process. Cheers!
Love it!! After ripping that first board, I would have said screw it and used the table saw. Haha - you are far more skilled than I am - obviously! Great job, man!!!!
This is really fun to watch. Thank you. I made something by hand tools only that was half the size and it took a long time. I can appreciate how much time you spent. Also, been a while since I've seen one of your videos. The shop remodel came out really nice. Congrats.
Congratulations man. That’s a family heirloom now. I bet you teared up just a little once it was inside with your family and if you didn’t you should get checked out.

@@TheHandToolery well done. I revamped our kitchen with hard maple doors and back walnut tops, the maple was rough cut but I concede on ripping that , it totalled 60 meters of cutting lol
@@kelvinsparks4651 OHHHH WOW! Yeah... I did our kitchen cabinets, and it was 100% power tools. I had to borrow a jobsite table saw to do it, though. Not to mention, this was way before I was actually any good at handtools haha
Not terrible really. The worst was ripping the legs, but even so once it was done, it was done. One reason I don’t use my bandsaw that much is because of how I don’t trust it for a straight, square cut. Practice and editing! Hahahah
Stunning result! Absolutely an heirloom piece that will be past down through the generations. Really enjoyed watching the whole process.
Thank you and I sure hope so! If they ever burn it, I only ask that they do it when I’m long gone hahahahah
