My last year there was 1949...the photos bring back many memories! My sister and I in J&M, our brother in the Presentation. Our mum used to spend a week or so during summer and we were allowed to be with her on the weekend. I remember the train and then bus to the school, quite an adventure. All so long ago and everything has changed in this day and age.
We stumbled upon this video while beautiful mom was talking about CJM muree in her younger years. Her name is Nazra Abbas she was 6-7 yrs old or older in the late 40s or 50. Her sisters Mehershad and had 2 brothers...Nasir Abbas. She has early dementia BUT when I searched she started getting her memories back and cried.... she remembers ms Aslam teacher and Margaret Fletcher her classmate, mother Andrews, mom said other called her sister Andrew's. I.must say what a beautiful place....thank you for sharing beautiful memories that are filled with laughter and kindness Forever....😇❤❤.
Aww that’s fantastic!! Mother Andrew passed away recently. Sister Berchmans- i dont know if she remembers her- passed away a few days ago. She must also remember sister Clotilda… We all feel the same way about school and it breaks down everyone who experienced life there. It’s difficult to explain our days there. Was there an Arlene Geddes that she remembers? Shes one of oldest murre convent Alumni..
This is amazing. I couldn't hold back the tears. It was so emotional. Memories came flooding back. Can't wait to show my daughters where Mummy went to school
Last month I went to murree and some other towns in the north and I stayed at a hotel which was once abandoned by a British family. The town that I stayed in (Thandiani)used to have 90% british population and a church seeing the church abandoned and some homes destroyed left me very very emotional. I dont know why would someone leave such a beautiful place
I didnt see any foreign tourist there and seeing so many locals made me really emotional. I hope Pakistan gets better so that people like you can come back
proud to be conventarian......sister Andrew my teacher.......I just love taking her class....If someone wants to meet sister Andrew plzzzz meet her she always talks about her students....blessed to have her
I went to the convent from the age of 4 nearly 5 to the age of 11 years, with just a short break at Lawrence's college when the 2nd World War ended. What is shown here are some happy students in the school after partition. It was not like that in my day. Reverend Mother was one of the cruelest women I have ever met and the nuns were not much better. When I had a brief spell at Lawrence College, I realised what a school should be. However when partition came the College closed down and I was sent back to the nightmare of the Convent of Jesus and Mary. Thank goodness my English father took our family to his country, England, or maybe I too may have been broken like they broke poor Betty Kahn.
Nuns back in the 1940s!!! I can only imagine how terrible it mustve been back then! Lawrence College later on turned into an all boys boarding school so I am surprised that they had girls as students at some point. What happened to Betty Kahn? Would you have any picture from your time which you could share? The nuns were not so bad in the later years but were still a bit of a terror in general. Ofcourse, everything changes with time. I wonder if you used to wash your face in wash basins back then like we still did even in the 90s! Did you have indian food at your meal times or Irish food like we did? I was there in the 90s and we had so many Irish nuns so our menu had a lot of stew, mashed potatoes and gravy type of items. Would love to hear your stories:)
Yes Sonia, I agree with you. I'm from CJM, New Delhi. One will come across varied people and situations in life and I can proudly say that my CJM school taught me to deal with it. Nothing can ever beat 1. convent education (which is now crumbling under dirty politics and inter- religious fanaticism) and 2. the sacrifices of the nuns. Finally, CJMites will always stand apart!
Thank you for this heartfelt tribute! I get choked up watching this video even though I attended Convent of Jesus and Mary Lahore. All convents touched the lives of their students and we will always carry that legacy. It was particularly poignant to see the pic of class of 1978 as my best friend Saba Saleem was in that class. Saba if you read this please know I am searching for you and trying to reconnect
Hi there, great video. small strange request, I am doing family tree at the mo and my wife's grandmother went to the convent around the 1920's her name was Barbara Hart, and her father was Oswald Hart. Found a website and there was a lady called Margaret O'Reilly who said that her mother was called Beryl Hart and we believe that they were related as we know that Barbara had a sister called Beryl and another siter called Winnie. If anyone has any information about any of the people I have mentioned it would be a great help. Keep up the great work keeping the memory of this convent alive.
Hello james! Im sorry i never noticed this comment before. I do have an email for a person with the same exact lineage that you are talking about! They are also related to barbara hart who was grandmother. Could be your wife who emailed me trying to locate her roots maybe? Will see if i can pull out something from my database...
an inexplainable pain .. i cant explain to people in my life NOW, what CJM & PRESENTATION CONVENT SCHOOL MURREE means to me. I M STILL IN CONTACT WITH MY CLASS TEACHER SISTER PATRICIA SHE IS LOVE OF MY LIFE
Hello Mohsin Abbasi, I have been trawling through places in India and Pakistan on the Internet that I remember from my childhood. I attended the Presentation Convent in Murree, in fact it is where I began my schooling - oh so long ago! The memories I have, not only of the school but of Murree itself are tucked away in a photo album in my heart. I shall never visit the plces or those people again, but at least I have my memories. Some famous writer wrote: God gave us memories so that we can have roses in December. A beautiful quote! Incidentally, my name is also Patricia, though I do not like it and refer to myself as Trish. I hope you will do well in life and gather as many memories as you are able, as they will be a great comfort to you one day. .
oh i get it. im a conventarian too :) lucky huh? i just read an article saying mean stuff about the school. i wasn't expecting tht so i asked you. but ur right, the sisters did work. but still sister monica is really mean.
