The US stubbornly and pridefully refused to embrace the FN FAL.
But years later most European militaries use an M-16/AR-15 variant.

Good video to sum up the M 16’s introduction to widespread use in South Vietnam. The US advisors and some elite South Vietnamese units had positive experiences with the rifle from 1962 to 1964. If my memory is correct it was stated by ARVN officers just having a few of these rifles available greatly enhanced a units combat performance. I could assume the advisers and ARVN paratroopers were issued the original ammunition and cleaning equipment. When I went to Army basic training in 1979 there was intense focus on cleaning the chamber with a bronze brush. The bolt carrier and gas port was especially emphasized. Nearly every single NCO involved with training were Vietnam war veterans. They were especially adamant about memorizing immediate action drills. Clearing the weapon recharging a new round, tapping the forward assist and tapping the magazine. They mentioned the jamming issues from the early Vietnam war frequently. Most often the chamber cleaning, gas port and buffer. They also emphasized it lethality to the other side

One of the things that strikes you about X-Ray is reference to troopers being at the bottom of their foxholes cleaning their rifles.

I understood it was primarily stuck cases in the chambers with noway to extract them at the time. Possibly some troopers still have an M 14 cleaning rod issued at Ft Benning in 1964 . It wouldn’t help them them force that stuck case out

Can you do a video on the Thompson Submachine gun’s use in the Vietnam war? You see the weapon quite frequently with ARVN and also NLF forces. Same with the M1and M 2 carbines. I am interested in hiw the Vietnamese forces viewed the WW 2 era US small arms they were equipped with.

Ideally I would develop subjects like that, but I'm not sure there's a sufficient audience to make it work.

I enjoy all your detailed videos. Especially the smaller less well known battles

What happens when politicians overrule military doctrine and that includes the upper echelons of the military who are more interested in playing golf with senator XYZ than ensuring their men aren't cannon fodder.
