I love how Bruno doesn't even react to the news that Bartlet considers the Butterball hotline important; he's been with the crazy train that is the Bartlet Administration long enough at this point to just roll with it all.
+ISchulz - the lack of reaction shown by Bruno is further emphasised when the President tells him to, "watch and learn," as he dials the number for a hotline and immediately starts talking to the automated voice when it pauses.
I love how Toby just rolls with the insanity in front of him, trying to pre-empt any issues the President might have, with a kinda "Why didn't I choose a different career path" expression on his face.
+1tishhead - he's not. At the end of this scene though he swiftly exits the oval office for the residence to trap the person who did put the question about where the 'First Family' holidays into the polls. The addition of it not being a deal breaker may be because he's not happy with his wife.
my other favorite line was from leo, after ainsley hayes told him she was afraid she was going to pee on his carpet because of her nerves over meeting the president: "ok......now i am, too."

To him asking why, she properly explains how the winner she chose gets taken to live on a kids farm (something like that) and the loser gets eaten - Bartlett's quick reply: I'd watch the Oscars if they did it like that. A great line that you hope you didn't have any drink in your mouth when he said it.

Attention Hollywood: THIS is how you do product placement. If you can't finance your show/film make the product a minor "B" plot-point, throw in some humor that doesn't insult the audience's intelligence, and take your time with it. We don't mind. Really
It's called Meatloaf ffs. It's a meat, bread, everyone's own concoction of 11 herbs & spices and baked. I've never even seen a meatloaf, much less eaten one.
Not sure why Bartlet feels the need to cook his own Thanksgiving dinner when he has an entire staff fully capable of cooking the turkey and answering these questions for him. But it's still a hilarious scene.
The best part of the whole thing is Toby just settling in and watching. You can see his mind working, he's already planning the aside in the book he'll write some day...

+Rachel Wells - I would agree that the crafting of this scene is incredible. I think it hits on the most points made by the show at itself without it being obvious. The last one is even at Sheen and his needing to be better at names. It's very much like the Walk And Talk Vote but no-one knows it.
I could see Bartlett doing that once a week from a private line that doesn't show up on caller ID just to mess with the heads of Butterball reps. He's got that whole "mischevious college frat boy streak" in him that just makes the character great.
I loved West Wing and there are many Favorite moments and this is one of them. More so this time of year.. Thank you for the edits and the posting ! :)
I loved this show. I miss this show. Thank you for the Butterball Hotline clips! FYI, 180 degrees is too high. It will result in an overdone, very dry bird. 165 at the breast is fine, or 175 at the leg/thigh joint. This will kill harmful bacteria. The USDA recommendation is overly careful. Oven thermometers aren't always accurate, and can vary widely. They err on the side of caution.
@aiu7125 Because President Bartlet liked to know things, not just to have them done for him. And in this case, at the start of the scene he has an idea for a turkey hotline, so he wanted to see if Butterball's hotline was living up to what he imagined. Like he said, he was testing them, and he was thrilled that they were so good it because he respects smart, competent people. :)
Bartlet: "Ahh, something important." Bruno: "What is that, sir?" Bartlet: "The number for the butter-ball hotline." "Watch and learn." Answering Service: "Welcome to the butter-ball hotline."
