Hey, Chad! So glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, it's cool to see Detroit making a comeback and preserving some of its beautiful architecture as it does. Cheers! John
Thank you! I moved here with the hope of changing the perspective and sharing its beauty- hopefully some people are figuring out how much this city has to offer! 🌿
I am 60, have been riding a bicycle since I was 5 (yes I was late), I have had a driver's license for 5 years (2005-2010), otherwise I have done everything by bicycle or public transport. So nothing special by Dutch standards, lol😉
Well played! Yeah, that's the beauty of providing mobility choices versus prioritizing driving a car over all other modes. Thanks so much for tuning in and commenting. I really appreciate it. Cheers! John
Yep, in way too many cities, unfortunately. I hope you'll tune back in tomorrow, to learn how Kristin has been thriving car-free for over a decade now.
It's about the same in my area, but I substituted a motor scooter. I saved a huge amount of money every year. I love riding my bicycles, but hate riding in my area.
I read that Detroit had one mistake and one success. The mistake was selling off their brand new Presidents' Conference Committee streetcars when GM came in and mentioned that the city really, really wanted GM buses instead. After the streetcars stopped running everyone drove their GM cars and the streets choked up. Unable to move key people around when they needed, GM moved out of the city. The success was that after the bankruptcy they couldn't afford the officials who controlled how the city developed, so the developers were free to do whatever worked. And that worked very well for the city.
@@KristinFehrman Mexico City got a big win out of the deal. A fleet of almost new PCC cars that served faithfully until fairly recently, when the line grew too busy and they converted to higher capacity low floor cars.
Enjoyed hearing about Detroit.
Yay! So glad you liked it. 😀
Thank you so much!
Bravo. Great episode.
Thanks so much for tuning in, Mark!
Thank you for joining! 🌿
This is such a great episode! I love Detroit and the city gets a terribly bad rap.

It is almost impossible to live without a car in my city.

It definitely wasn’t easy doing it for three years in Traverse City… but with the bus, biking, and living downtown, I made it work!

Yep, pretty much 😅
Ha!
There’s a lot of wins, and some failures too 😉
