    Luckily C17 967 is now in good hands at the Mary Valley Rattler and is running happily. I volunteer for the Rattler and we have had a few hiccups with 967 but she's still a great runner, we also have a carriage from Beaudesert Rail which is 1416.

      ItzDecster I knew that all the rail vehicles found new homes. Hopefully Mary Valley won’t ‘run out of puff’ again as it did for several years.

    This line could of had a future passenger task as new sub divisions going in around Logan Village etc, however a retirement village has been built on top of the formation at the Waterford end, go figure. Plus there's been talk of a rail freight hub at Beaudesert, connecting the Beaudesert branch to said hub with give it resilience with a second connection to Brisbane, the first connection being the Sydney line, surmising that dual gauge would be extended to said Beaudesert hub from Acacia Ridge.

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The group that so briefly operated Beaudesert rail had stated in their earlier days that a commuter service to I think Logan Village was proposed by them, but of course in their true form, it revolved around the railways handing them brand-new rail motors on a silver platter. So that never happened. I did not hear of the retirement village shortsightedness decision. Unfortunate.

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that for Beaudesert the direct buses would be very much faster but there is probably potential for the first few kilometres of the line in from Bethania.

      @@tressteleg1 I understand that, but if only Beaudesert Rail weren't such a bad organisation, then none of the problems would have occured in the first place.

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The problem was that the company (it was not a railfan club in the usual way) was a group of local business people who wanted a tourist drawcard for the town. It happened to be the railway rather than a waterslide or something else.
      They had no knowledge about trains, and possibly wanted no advice. All they knew about was getting government grants for tourism purposes. There was also some fight revolving around blocking some person who wanted to join what I suppose was the supporters club which I belonged to. Anyway there is the possibility that maybe the excluded person was behind the bridge fire while killed the line when no more money was forthcoming, of course on top of the derailment.

    No it ran more than just three days. I recall sitting in my office by the tracks on several weekends and hearing the train pass.

      +Keith Jenkinson
      It certainly did run a number of weekends previously from Beaudesert to Logan Village but I strongly suspect it was only 3 days Beaudesert to Bethania. It is hard to find much about it on the internet but if you find definite dates for extra days of full line running, I would be happy for them to be posted here. A real pity it failed. I thought QR had been paid to upgrade the whole line. Obviously not.

    • @realjohnboxall
      @realjohnboxall 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Wow I remember doing the Beaudesert run. QR were paid to get the entire line in order. The whole operation was an omnishambles. A lot of railfans hated it for many reasons including: tons of federal funding when ARHS-Qld at Rosewood were scraping by; creating their own crappy paint scheme instead of bringing it back to QR-era liveries; filling a carriage with velvet lounges (though in hindsight it was comfortable). I never forget watching them change locos while people were getting on and off the carriages. Total safety fail. And the godawful paint job on Beaudesert station. Beaudesert Rail was a prime example of an great idea run by the wrong people showered with the taxpayers' money.

  • @shanemay3797
    @shanemay3797 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    There were quite a few lawsuits over material goods not being paid for. Also, the carriages were fairly butchered from original QR specifications.

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The thing to remember is that this organisation was NOT a rail fans Museum in the normal sense of the word. It was run by people who wanted it to boost the town’s tourism and did not necessarily have any rail operation experience. Most if not all their fundraising stemmed from lobbing governments for donations.

      I think it is basically all there but recently work started on a Beaudesert town bypass near the station and that track has been removed. I dare say roadworks here and there may have done the same but overall I don't think the scrap value of rail pays for its removal these days.

      From what I heard, a lot of dodgy things were done at Beaudesert rail. I was a member. The thing was not run by fans, it was entrepreneurs using the railway as a tourist attraction for the town. There was no such thing as working bees for the members to participate in.

      Train Lover Let’s hope that Mary Valley keeps their act together and does not get shut down again. I can’t remember why they were shut down for certain so had better not guess. But I think it had a fair slice of paid workers as well which may have been some of the problem. I’m sure you could find more on the Internet.

    • @trainlover1474

      tressteleg1 the Mary rattler got shut back in 2012 due to safety concerns with the rolling stock and track

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Train Lover I thought so. I rode it once only in 2005. It was a very uncomfortable ride lurching around from sunken rail joint to sunken rail joint. I don’t know why the carriages did not fall to pieces. I’m surprised they were allowed to run at that speed on such a terrible track. I was pleased when the journey ended.

      I can’t remember all the details now, but at the time a friend told me that the steamer was not really ready for service, but was used anyway.
      It should be remembered that BR was never an enthusiast museum- it was a tourism initiative of townspeople who had limited rail operation knowledge but were good at getting government grants.

  • @trainlover1474
    @trainlover1474 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don’t like how the locos are painted in such bad colours and not QR liveries just hideous

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Beaudesert rail was never a museum operation. The town wanted some attraction to bring in tourists and decided that the dormant rail line would be a good subject. Although they had a membership, I was one, there were never any working bees or anything else that you would expect of a museum type operation. As their sole aim was more visitors to Beaudesert, I dare say they thought the blue looked nice irrespective of its lack of historical reality.
