The price we pay for living in a society where you’re free to say or post whatever you want: there’s basically no regulations on highly misleading advertising.
I first started playing because it showed a simple game where you are a certain number, in a tower, and level up by attacking someone with a lower number. The ad showed multiple towers with enemies with varying numbers attached to them. Not once have I actually seen any kind of game play like the ad.
Yeah, I saw that. The one that got me interested was like the tower (as in higher and lower number enemies), but you were going through a dungeon and using different attacks on each one.
@@jogiff No joke! I've been lowkey mad each time those fake ads showed that sort of gameplay because all that is, essentially, is click random numbers in ascending order. That could only be fun for preschoolers and/or idiots.
Honestly i probably will try and develop some of the games that had misleading ads because honestly some of them do look really fun but none of them are real
I have thought the same thing, if only I could develop games. That would be awesome, and then you'd get the customers and revenue because you're putting out a game that people actually want to play. Also getting a little free advertising from these fake game ads.
@@isaacappleman Isaac Appleman yeah, I really want to do it but it's just finding the motivation to learn game development, I've got a sketchbook with a game idea which I believe would be insanely fun to play but it's just getting motivation to learn how to make it and then actually designing it
I've played this game for 2 years now. Upon the start, only the ad you found existed in the whole game. Upon Gardenscapes getting removed from UK due to fake ad reports, the devs added mini quests like this at the bottom of the map. I believe there's currently 11 of these in the bottom of the first 3 chapters. These puzzles are basic and lackluster, but just there to cover their asses from getting removed. The actual game itself is to get heroes and titans developed, and work with your guild to get higher spots in the PvP arena and compete in and win wars. However, the devs make this into a P2W trap that baits you to spend huge amounts of money, where there's many people who end up spending upwards of more than 100k USD. The campaign is merely there to help you unlock heroes and grind materials to level them. Even chapter 13, in of itself is basically early game. It is a long, grindy, P2W game.
I thought people spending just under $1k on Sims 4 and all of its DLC was outrageous... but this is just something else. It seems more like a gambling addiction. This game is garbage and needs to be taken down.
She found one puzzle. I found one too. I played the game for a few more hours after that but it remained the only one. The ads are just bait, so I keep reporting the ads as scam.
Seems to be almost a game genre anymore. I played the Gardenscapes sequel, Homescapes for almost 2 weeks, and hit the puzzles from the ads no more than about 3 or 4 times at most. Homescapes also had a very interesting RPG storyline as well, but the primary gameplay was a Match 3 style grind, which can be very boring if it's not what you're looking for to begin with. The thing is, you couldn't really do much with the storyline or even get to the rare puzzles, without grinding and you couldn't do very much grinding without real-life $$. It ended up being a pretty quick uninstall, oh well.
They must have changed it. I started about 2 weeks ago, and the on boarding tutorial introduces us to 2 of them. You have to try hard to avoid the second. I'm surprised that game developers can make such high quality games, and still see no problems with being so misleading. Until I searched around, I thought that I was playing it wrong, and couldn't access the puzzles.
@Aryon Furmage First, those weren't added until just recently, there was only one puzzle to begin with. It is quite unfair to compare how the game is now to comments referring to an older version of the game. Second, the point about misleading ads is still relevant, the puzzles that exist now are few and far between, where the ad makes it seem like the main focus of the game is puzzle based.
WOW! your video is spot on. I came to youtube see if I had downloaded the wrong version of the game. Thank you so much for posting as you have saved me a lot of time.
@@VeraExora I've seen like 3-4 different genres of games in ads for this game (including a first person action). In my opinion this game, by far, has the most misleading ads!
Thank you for sharing that : i had the same thoughts after one month playing. Enemies become more and more powerful, and you farm less and less loot and points. Very progressively... Beautiful game, but it's too obvious that they want you to pay and the things you pay for are worth for one month, not more. (sorry for my bad english)

You are absolutely right. Misleading ads is an outrage. I'm sure you have heard of the Warcraft Reforge situation. These kinds of things should be banned and fined with a LOT of money, so the devs would never dare do something like this again. It's common practice nowadays. When I was a little kid ~25 years ago nothing like this happened. The very first mislead of what I can remember was Ubisoft's Watch Dogs game which also caused an outrage (especially after PC modders found ways to actually make the game look like it was advertised). Greed is ruining gaming now too :(
The desktop/Facebook variant has TWO puzzles in the first level of campaign mode, but you never run into htem again later. You seem to have used the download/Mobile variant thus only one puzzle appeared. I think you overlooked one level though or they have added one as it now has 14 Storylevels to the Campaigns. And there might be more later on as the last one is covered in "fog of war". And yes, basically all of the game is XP / gold / item grinding to advance. And it will increase in difficulty pretty fast so you will have to level your "heroes" a lot to be able to go up to the next campaign level/page. Speeding actions is only unlocked when you pay for "the gift of the valkyries", a weekly subscription at slightly under 2 bucks per week.
after, all these years of seeing the ads, I finally clicked... found your video a little too late. Though I can happily report I found TWO puzzles in the first "world" (zero in the second, zero in the third) and the second of those puzzles was one I hadn't seen in an ad and was actually challenging!
I've been playing this game for nearly 2 years. Back then, the advertisements for this game were actually truthful and represented the game as it actually is. No idea why would they change the advertisement later on.
They just want money from us...once you addictive play this game...you will spend for better gear or high level hero and cant compete with spender..in arena.its...suck..you will stuck at same level when not spend...
Because advertisement experts are quite clueless about their jobs. There's Polish add on YT which has sign language translator hidden behind "skip add" button
I played this game for a bit myself. It looks like every time you perfect every level on one map screen (beating it with a 3 star rating) you get one of these puzzles as a bonus. So, you don't get to see very often.
Exactly. You have to collect about 15 or 30 stars to have one puzzle like in the ads. To get the stars, you have to do these battle missions on the map screen. Every stop on this map is one battle. One battle is 3 waves of enemy. If you complete it perfectly, you get 3 stars, if you play worse, you get less for each battle. If you have collected these 15 or 30 stars you can click on the status bar with the stars below the map to start one of these puzzle events. Without paying, you can get about 2 puzzles within 1 - 1,5 hours. If you don't want to waste your time on these battles, you can pay to finish them faster, and thus by paying, you get sooner to the puzzles. For me, it's a waste of time. The puzzles shown in the ads are attracting, but playing all these undemanding battles to collect enough stars to get to the puzzles is not worth my time.
This was such a coincidence. I was just thinking about downloading this game because of the puzzle ads, but the named made me doubt if the ads had anything to do with the true gameplay. And then you release a video verifying my doubts about it. Thank you so much, perfect timing. :) Also on a side note. I find your videos extremly helpful, and I love your dedication, in trying to provide us with the best information possible, on how to enjoy these mobile games to the fullest. Keep up the good work. :)
For those looking for a game similar to the ads try a game called Hero Castle War. It has combat where your hero is assigned a power number and as you kill enemies in the towers you are attacking you take their power to kill the stronger creatures you come across. It is not as detailed as the ads in this its mostly a stick figure with power level taking down monsters in towers. It doesnt have all the cool looking dungeon and outdoor scenes that it looks like you clear in the ads. As far as the puzzle part I haven't found a game yet that mimics the puzzles other than a couple bonus levels in a couple games i cant even remember the names of but nothing that relies on the puzzles as its main gameplay.
Nah. There are quite a few ads that showcase the gameplay rather faithfully... except that they'll show a simple easy 1 minute puzzle with a caption like "I tried 9000 times and couldn't beat this stage! >:(". pfft...
Not only that, i was playing Fallout Shelter on my tablet while watching this, and selected to watch and add, so my explorer would get a 30m fast forward on his time. It was an ad for a later version of this game. :D
I only managed to find like TWO of them in my version of the game. I haven't really found more like-wise things since. What the game actually is, is fine, but I kinda figured the puzzles would have a bigger role, or at least a bigger presence.
I greatly appreciate this video and happy that my first request was the first video! I think I’ll pass on this game. Like you, I would be happier with the more puzzle focused idea. Thanks again!
There's a second set of ads for this that's like a tower climb thing where you're 1v1ing enemies based on their level to reach a rescue goal. I'm assuming that's also not a main part of the game. Thank you for making these videos, I've fallen for the whole "ads vs. gameplay" thing on more than one game.
I have been playing for a while and only encountered those puzzles twice. They have upgraded the game with new fight challenges, Titans, pets, and so on, but if you don't spend money, you hit a logarithmic challenge as it gets harder and harder to level up. I enjoy it on a basic level, but I like a more resource allocation type game where you need to figure out where items and skills go for the changing battles... and this doesn't allow for this. Now, if they reskinned this with superheroes (similar to the famous comic book types, but in a more homage way), I'd play just to watch it have them fight on their own.
i love idle games and puzzle games too, BUT they lied in ads (i think its lie!) so i wont download it! I saw many ads and i checked it (ad vs gameplay) and i think they lied to me in ads, because they show its a fun puzzle game, but its idle game and have any puzzles.
As far as my experience with mobile games is concerned, the ads for most of them are misleading. In my country this way of advertising is illegal (its called "publicité mensongère"), but as they are free, I think no one would ever file a lawsuit because of this. Your video is helpful, as I don't waste my time.
i downloaded hero Wars just bc of the misleading ads and was not surprised to see that the game had nothing to do with the ads, but surprisingly I kept playing. The game is focused on the pvp thing, finding a guild and building the best team possible and is surprisingly complex at this aspect, one thing that manages to kill it is the monetization.
The newest ads are the weird towers where you have to match the hero level to the enemy level in the tower floor. I legit thought, after the first phase of ads and now the second, that it was just a puzzle game through and through. Majorly disappointed. But your channel is a saving grace, thank you for playing it so I don't have to. :D
Thank you for reviewing. I keep seeing the ad on TH-cam but have no interest if it's not a puzzle game. Thank you for preventing me spending time and money on it.
I liked your video because at last someone shows the real thing behind those many ads I have every time in YT XD.... btw girl I love your voice is kind of relaxing to listen to it! ^^! and your character/avatar is cute! 😄😊😉☺... A bunch of hugs from Belgium 🤗🤗🤗🤗💚 have a nice Monday!! 8:16 yeah misleading ads
Thank you for this! I keep getting bombarded with those ads, the same as you. It's good to know that (as I expected) the game was nothing like what it was literally screaming it was like.
Brilliant review, it is so reassuring to know that I am not the only one going round the bend thanks to these misleading bait ads! Keep up the good work and I wish you success with your channel :-)
I love how so many of us ended up here because we didn't stop getting the ads, clicked finally, saw it wasn't that, kept seeing the ads and searched for the game but nope.. doesn't exist xD
I agree. They need to stop making misleading ads for games that are nothing like them and actually make the game that is in the ad. If the ads were accurate I would have at least 10 more games installed than I have now. I made the mistake of finding out firsthand several of them that were VERY misleading, and since then I have started watching videos like these before getting games where the ads look too good to be true. Thanks for this because this was one I was seriously considering playing, but not now that I have seen the truth.
If they lie in the ads, why would i trust them with real money. They conned me into the game by a fake ad. they have lots my trust already. the rest of the game is just grind.
1:23 ''Doing things wrong gives you more initiative to get the game ourselves'' That's what I've been doing for more than a decade with northernlion being bad at games. Man's a marketing genious!
The puzzles in the Facebook ads looked great, but something about them set off my bullshit detector so I figured I'd do some research. Thanks for producing this video so that I don't waste any more time on this false advertising. :)
I played for a few hours tonight. Those puzzles ARE in the game, but at the end of each chapter, which requires Energy to get through. Energy is needed to take on each battle and progress, and while you do passively(slowly) regenerate it, it is possible to run out of energy very quickly by focusing on grinding out battles for gear instead of progressing the story. Oh, and grinding through battles for gear: you need items to rank up your champions and unlock those skills the Top Five Reasons to Play talks about. If the idle RPG thing seems like it might be up your alley sure go ahead and try this, I would just advise to be careful: behind almost every mechanic and area of the game is an opportunity to spend real money, and with so many things to buy, the expenses could add up lightning fast.
I got two puzzles in the two hours of gameplay I went through. Not sure if this means 1 puzzle per every 1 hour, but I still wouldn't recommend playing it if you're only interested in the puzzles. I only lasted 2.5 hours...
Ah, this is so true! I actually got caught up in the game itself and forgot about the ads completely! FYI, I've been playing a week now, and i've seen those puzzles from the ads in the first couple of hours... never seen them again (I'm in chapter 6 now).
The puzzles are the best part, but you only get one per level and it takes an increasingly long time to complete a level unless you spend Alot of real money. The further you go, the slower the game progression goes. By level 7, it takes an entire 4 hours to complete a level unless you pay. The pattern is that the antogonists progress faster and faster as time goes on and the in-game rewards fall behind. The paid bonuses are the Only way to progress after a while and you must continue to pay if you want to play about $11 or more per day by Level 8. More going forward. Its a Cash Grab without question. You will spend all your time fighting (most of the actions are automated) and building your characters and waiting... and waiting... and finally caving and pumping more money into the game to allow them to win. Then a puzzle per day or so.
I played and quited this game 3 months ago. Repetitive and non rewarding experience, you don't get reward for your hard work and grind, you get reward only by paying. I payed roughly 100 USD total during that 3 month.
Well said. I spoke to the developers who are aware that the puzzles arent apart of the game & that there are only 2 & that it is just an ad (which obviously has nothing to do with the game), so when asked why they dont have more (then 2) they said theyll take this into consideration.
I liked your review, because it is accurate. Looking at the ad I was thinking ... hm ... looks nice. And than you a get a TOTALLY different game. There are similar ads for other games spawning on facebook. I downloaded Total Battle -> it was a city builder !!! Of course I reported them for misleading information.
they never stated in the ad that aurora was a princess you assumed that and as someone who plays the game yes the ad is clickbait but the game itself is very fun and worth trying
Old video but honestly I fully agree. Honestly it should be illegal for companies to be so misleading about anything. There are far too many lies already
I'd only get this game for the ad puzzles, but I can't imagine them making a full game out of those ads, only so much you can prolly do with that puzzle type
Look at what Cut The Rope did with such a simple concept. I think it's possible to build on a simple premise until it becomes something elaborate and more challenging.
OMG...thank you for saving me from downloading this game! I love puzzle games but I figured I'd check some videos to see what other people thought about it first. I'm so glad I found your video. It saved me from wasting my time.
Thanks for this video. I keep seeing the ads for this game and it's been creeping up in my mind. I had a strong feeling it was false advertising and obviously it is. You're a goddess for making this!
Nah, it's misleading. At best, it presents itself as a puzzle game when that's really a tiny part of the game. At worst, I really doubt that 95% of the puzzles that show up in the ads are actually implemented in the game.
Oh my goodness I keep getting these ads, and I want to play the puzzles but it's not the same as the Ad!!! Thanks for doing this service. I fell for gardenscapes:/ and now I have to lookup gameplay videos before downloading
I enjoy Hero Wars, but I too was suckered in by the puzzle ads. You could play without paying, but you have to grind. Also, I agree with your assessment on the game GARDENSCAPES. I downloaded the original version HOMESCAPES because of the puzzle ads. Then I realized that its a fun ripoff of CANDYCRUSH! But unlike Hero Wars where you can progress for free by being patient and grinding, HOMESCAPES is a money drain if you want to progress. I stopped playing when I realized I got double-billed not once but twice. I didn't even lodge a complaint because I knew it would be pulling teeth to get resolved. So I just quit the game. This idea of misleading ads seems to becoming more and more prevalent. Buyer beware!
The ads are a complete deception. Only a few puzzles in the first few chapters

Thanks, You saves me the time to install and play the game... but I wasted (in a good way) 10 minutos of my life with the review of the game. Keep them coming. :D
Funnily enough, recently, they actually made the puzzles a *bit* more like the ads. In some ways, at least. Still nothing on the gameplay itself, though I enjoy it. Don't recommend anyone to spend money on it, though. The puzzles themselves are unlocked by getting enough stars in the missions, and now also have a handy visual on the bottom of the screen, showing how far you have to go. Along the collection, you also get two chests to open as extra incentive. Also, the storyline unlocked a hero I previously didn't have (Mojo, specifically) which is a nice plus.
i clicked on this video trying to find out about what hero wars is actually like. then im instantly like, hang on a minute... i know that voice! then i realise its superteeds lmfao
Every section in 'Campaign' that you complete has 4 puzzle sections, when you first enter a section you can click on the yellow star on the bottom left of the 'stars collected' bar for an immediate puzzle. then when you collect enough stars another yellow star appears and you can do another puzzle, etc.. until you get to the end of the section for the last puzzle (#4) if you got enough stars. I have yet to see any of the quests they show on the ads tho, like the 'branding' ad and the ones with the hot girl/scarry monster that eats a lineup of heros, where are those quests in the game??
Note that these puzzels are in game. By collecting stars in missions, you can unlock these puzzels, solve them and get gear in-game. THE PUZZELS ARE COMMON AND A BIG PART OF THE GAME!
I have been playing this game fpr about 10 days, but so far I love it. I'll agree, I originally downloaded it because the ads attracted me to the game but the game is not really like the ad. I have not spent any of my own money on the game so far. I have got several of those puzzles like the ads while playing, but not a whole lot of them, maybe five or ten of them so far. They seem to occur once you reach certain goals. There are a ton of things to do in the game and you get a lot of prizes which can be used to upgrade the characters, but the mechanics of power vs character strength are a little wonky. It seems that the character's power levels determine what order they come in play, but their attacks and heath seem to make a bigger difference in how they perform even if their power level is much higher than another character. There is also a ton of stuff going on in different categories for leveling, an arena, and a guild quest once you achieve a certain level. I don't plan on using any of my own money in this game, but I am trying to figure out which characters are your best options to level up as some of them are way better at higher levels than others are when you match up their levels. I actually started making an excel document because I'm a weirdo...
a lot of games done this nowaday so it always good to look at the review section first, if people rate it low and talk about how misleading it is, then chance are the ads are bait.
So, crazy thing, all the ads I see for this game are number puzzles, but the SECOND I try watching a video for how the gameplay actually looks.... I get an ad with how the gameplay actually looks.
omg, omg, omg, i legit got a hero wars ad so i wanted to see if it was fake or not. i didn't think id run it to you here mu pokemon unite god. And I didn't even notice until you did your iconic intro lol.

My weaker geroes who are purple too are: Fox, Lian, Kai, Heidi, Keira, Jorgen, Aurora, Faceless, Judge, Orion and Nebula. Can I build nice synergie teams? Thank you!

That could only be fun for preschoolers and/or idiots.

and you end up like other game developers...
I have thought the same thing, if only I could develop games. That would be awesome, and then you'd get the customers and revenue because you're putting out a game that people actually want to play. Also getting a little free advertising from these fake game ads.
@@isaacappleman Isaac Appleman yeah, I really want to do it but it's just finding the motivation to learn game development, I've got a sketchbook with a game idea which I believe would be insanely fun to play but it's just getting motivation to learn how to make it and then actually designing it
have fun becoming a millionaire
Who the hell spends 100k usd on a shitty mobile game!?!
@@Kobac1990 a lunatic
I thought people spending just under $1k on Sims 4 and all of its DLC was outrageous... but this is just something else. It seems more like a gambling addiction. This game is garbage and needs to be taken down.
HOLY HELL SHE FOUND THE PUZZLES!??!?!??
The real treasure was finding the puzzle
@Aryon Furmage First, those weren't added until just recently, there was only one puzzle to begin with. It is quite unfair to compare how the game is now to comments referring to an older version of the game. Second, the point about misleading ads is still relevant, the puzzles that exist now are few and far between, where the ad makes it seem like the main focus of the game is puzzle based.
WOW! your video is spot on. I came to youtube see if I had downloaded the wrong version of the game. Thank you so much for posting as you have saved me a lot of time.

This one is a more creative and funny approach! :)
Greed is ruining gaming now too :(
Your entire fan base is a bunch of virgin simps
If you don't mind me asking what was the name of the song, also great vid just subscribed

after, all these years of seeing the ads, I finally clicked... found your video a little too late.
How many puzzles are there?

Also on a side note. I find your videos extremly helpful, and I love your dedication, in trying to provide us with the best information possible, on how to enjoy these mobile games to the fullest. Keep up the good work. :)
Aw, thank you so much.
& I'm glad it helped out, I've fallen into the trap many times... haha
None of those ADS are true to the games. I've downloaded a few games based on the fake ADS just for deleting them afterwards.

I only managed to find like TWO of them in my version of the game. I haven't really found more like-wise things since. What the game actually is, is fine, but I kinda figured the puzzles would have a bigger role, or at least a bigger presence.

If someone makes an actual cute fantasy puzzle game like these ads, I'll gladly pay for it. PC, Switch, iOS, whatever platform.
There is.. hero rescue
your dream is come true. It's Hero Quest on Android and iOS
You should play Hero Rescue. It make these ad come true.
The funny part is they've probably lost more people who would love the game as an idle player, because they hate puzzle games
i love idle games and puzzle games too, BUT they lied in ads (i think its lie!) so i wont download it!

The tragedy is that the mobile ads don't look that enticing; if they used actual gameplay, they might actually attract more players.
I will definitely say, I downloaded it and we (my family) love it! Really helps to pass time! Not to be taken entirely too serious!
Thank you, for taking the time to create this video. It was very informative.
Nice Video Teeds you should also check out AFK Arena

Can someone please tell them to fix this or stop using false advertisement?
yes the puzzles are almost nowhere to be found. you fight to get all "heroes" and their equipment+special traits. the ads are totally misleading.

@@RealityCheck6T9 Well, I was having fun for a while. Proud or not is irrelevant so I don't even think about this. Besides, 100 USD is really minor.
Well said. I spoke to the developers who are aware that the puzzles arent apart of the game & that there are only 2 & that it is just an ad (which obviously has nothing to do with the game), so when asked why they dont have more (then 2) they said theyll take this into consideration.

Great Video. I keep seeing ads and suspected the game was not like the ads, and so I searched for this.
Me: *Clicks this video*
*Shows me an actual hero wars ad*
@SilentBob420BMFJ what
i clicked on this video trying to find out about what hero wars is actually like. then im instantly like, hang on a minute... i know that voice! then i realise its superteeds lmfao
THE PUZZELS ARE COMMON AND A BIG PART OF THE GAME!
is there a level like the tower you see in the ads where you increase your number and beat the enemies and the dragon on the upper side?
Thank you for the video, wanted to see if the game matched the ads you made the perfect video to inform me. The world needs more heros like you ;P
You saved my time. I was about to download it because I thought that the actual game was like the ads
