Awseome. Thanks for the in depth video on this. It's the first thing I'm going to do when I get home today. As always great video and thanks for putting the time in to create it.
Good morning Q8 Pilot from the Netherlands. Watched and performed your video last night. Two years ago I bought a new PC especially for FS2020. I am happy with it and satisfied, but I didn't think the colors were what I had imagined, but a new world has now really opened up for me, it's amazing how beautiful it looks now, really the way it wants to be. Thank you for sharing this with us and especially compliments to Twotonemurpy for this beautiful setting. I'm happy.
Shadow and grain tip is nice, but the filters I'm not sure about. The "before" is, in my opinion, actually more representative of how the real world looks to the bare eyes in a sunny day. Your changes made it look like if you're wearing sun glasses. Although you would never be flying without those in such a day, so maybe it's better (would need to be tested in different conditions though).
I agree .. before looks better to me, the filter is too much contrast, but everybody’s brains interpolate light slightly different, so this is subjective .. like setting eq’s in a sound system 🙂
Yep 8192 is what I use on the rare occasion I even fire up MSFS anymore, 4096 and 8192 still don’t fix the oscillating shadows on the cockpits instrument panel when the weather is nice 🙁
Nice precise vid. I often have the problem that the cockpit is too dark, especially to separate some switches from another. What filter should I use to change that without losing the visual quality achieved by those filters? Any ideas?
Try changes in the Brightness/Contrast panel. Set your exposure first, then experiment with Shadows and Gamma. The HDR panel can also help. There's no magic bullet. Keep tweaking until you are satisfied but also be aware that what may work for the inside view may not be good for the outside view. It takes a while to get the balance right.
Answering my own question here. I tried out the settings on graphicVR for shadows and it seems to work. I love this preset especially countryside. Flew the Mach loop this morning it looked better than ever! I have two other presets from other tubers I use for different environments like alpine or night but this is lovely for general flying. Thanks
Do you know why the filters one defined are not "saved" as set? Every time I launch the sim and enable the filters I have to modify them again to my desire ones..
Tired these settings last night and came on the sim this morning to find I’ve got loads of screen tearing did not have issue before and tried revert the settings back but still have it as anyone else got this issue? If it helps I have a RTX 4070 12GB and a 11th gen i9
These tweaks are only useful if they improve cockpits too. Realistic light in MSFS exteriors usually result in dull looking interiors and indeed your Cessna cockpit shot shows that. In fact the radio digits are so faded you can hardly read them. So the exercise becomes a balance between the outside and inside views. This is a serious flaw in MSFS. You need to play with HDR, mid-range shading, gamma, exposure and highlights (in for example re-shade) to get a better balance between exteriors and interiors. By themselves the Geforce filters are not good enough.
Hi Q8Pilot and thanks for this video. Do you know if adding the Google Maps modification will interfere with these changes or vice versa? Thanks for all the time you have invested in MSFS videos. Trevor.
Thank you for this. Off to try out. If you have similar tips to make the melting building look better without affecting performance, I'd love to hear them. Thx
Anyone having a problem with the saving of the Nvidia filters? As soon as I set it, it changes the values back to the defaults. Only happens with certain filters.
Thanks for the great video. I think it's a little dark during the day, but that's okay. But at night while flying, the lights of the city below seem to be much dimmer. Is the city actually dark when viewed from 30,000 feet? If I want to brighten up the day/night a little bit, what should I adjust in the filters? Is the night view normally this dark?
Amazing info as always! Thank you for this.. got rid of the reshade which was slow and crashed the sim many times. Can you please gine some info on how the filter is saved? It seems that i have to emter the values every time i enter the sim.
Ok those sharper shadows instructions don’t work, I followed the instructions to the tee, but when I go back into the same and look under graphics settings it still says 2048 even though in the user.opt it says 8192, I tried making the user.opt read only but that didn’t help, what the heck am I doing wrong? 🤔
Crystal clear explanation I've instructions thank you so much your UserCfg has the fringe setting to 1 my setting is at 0 should I change my setting to one also what will that do thanks for all your help
Personally, I like night flying with the filters a lot more than without them. The filters do bring life to MSFS for sure. You might need to play with the sliders until you are 100% satisfied. Some presets look different on different displays.
When I get to roaming there is no "package" file, just Microsoft Flight Simulator and there no local cache and I have the Steam version so I went looking everywhere else and I can't find a local cache anywhere
Ok I finally found the file but as I stated there is NO LOCAL CACHE in the Steam version, the userCfg file is way at the bottom of the Microsoft folder and why I didn't see it cause I was focused on trying to find a local cache that is not there.
@@Q8Pilot maybe not a big issue but I have only one monitor but i have an ipad on the side of the desk so every time i look at the ipad and look back into the cockpit i have to center my view so I want to correct that if possible maybe a setting that wont mess up my view when i look to the side

@@JohnConservative Exactly this....i tried that frame gen mod the other day but only used it for a day as the sim felt so weird flying in 2d so went back to my VR flying.

I haven't seen any effect on performance, the Shadow size increase may or may not cause a couple of FPS drop, but it should not affect performance overall.
I was able to edit the file, but ALT-F3 does not bring up Nvidia Filters. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I did a flight after editing the file and the video has intermittent freezing for about 1/2 second, with a spinning circle in the lower-right corner, as though buffering. I'm hoping that will go away if I can figure out how to get to the filters.
Hİ there Kuwait, I am a big fun of your channel and Ihave learned many things from you. How about the settings for AMD Adrenalin edition graphics, for MSFS2020. Thank you for your big effort for the videos.

The suggested nVidia values just did not work on my setup so I reverted to my own . Truth be told MSFS without these filters can be visually unsettling.

I bet you can easily push every setting to maximum given the system you have, however in reality most FS2020 users, myself included, have spent less than half of the cost of a RTX 4090 alone on their complete PC system.
Sadly not every setting to the maximum. I currently run a 5900x with a 4090.. I run most settings with a mixture of medium, high and ultra as I prefer higher frame rates. With my Terrain LOD around the 130% mark. Anything more and the mainthread limitation this sim has starts to really punish any PC. Even at 4k I'm yet to max out this 4090 because simply put my 5900x mainthread just can't keep up. Which is hopefully somewhat fixed or at least better in MSFS2024 later this year.
You can tweak Nvidia settings all you want, but the tarmac texture is still garbage. The bump mapping is exaggerated, and the UV mapping is too big. Not to mention that no matter what Nvidia driver version you use, there are still jagged shadows in some places. Microsoft is deaf.
I did a full flight across the Alps and the preset I use made things look absolutely real. I am not sure why you say this, but try this out if you haven't
